Andean Emeralds are found around humid and wet forest borders, second growth, and highland clearings with trees. They are most common above 1000 meters.
Males and females are similar in appearance but the male boasts a blue crown and the female a green one. Both genders are green above, white below, and possess a coppery upper tail.

Wood ducks are one of Florida’s most beautiful species of duck. They possess boxy, crested heads with long, broad tails. Male wood ducks have chestnut breasts with green heads that are cut with white stripes, while females are gray-brown with white speckled breasts. The female has a distinct white coloration around her eyes, commonly referred to as “eyeliner.”
Both the male and female of the species are easy to identify from afar, with some practice.
In flight, wood ducks hold their heads high, sometimes bobbing them.
Wood ducks, as their name suggests, typically inhabit wooded, brushy, or other vegetated wetland areas. Look for them near:
Wooded swamps
Marshes
Streams
Beaver ponds
Small lakes
Wood ducks nest inside of cavities inside of trees. However, these cavities are not always common, and wood ducks often nest inside of artificial nesting boxes that have been provided for them. Female wood ducks tend to lay 10-11 eggs per clutch. They have a long nesting season that lasts from late January through August.
I found this male (Drake) in Lake Pierce, Polk County, Florida.

Dix mois après avoir pris possession d’un ancien hôtel transformé en bar au 104, dans le 13e arrondissement à Paris, et cinq mois après investi deux bars du quartier de Mouffetard, les 25 du 104 annoncent leur grand retour pour une nouvelle session de street art dans la capitale. Cette fois-ci, les graffeurs investissent un autre célèbre quartier parisien, celui de Belleville. Pendant trois jours, les vendredi 16, samedi 17 et dimanche 18 décembre 2022, 10 street artistes s'emparent des murs d'un supermarché G20 situé dans le quartier de Belleville .
Red Foxes are well suited for preying on rodents since they possess such excellent senses of sight, smell and hearing. They seem to easily detect small mammals deep in the snow or digging underground.
Catching a Red Fox leaping into the air and pouncing on an unsuspecting prey I think is a goal of every nature and wildlife photographer. The male is called a "dog" and the female is referred to as a "vixen". Being such avid hunters they will continue to hunt even when not hungry and build a cache for later consumption. They are considered nocturnal but are often seen hunting during the day.
This fox scampered between my camera and a grounded Snowy Owl and even though the owl barked at the fox a couple of times the fox paid the owl no attention at all.

To some, this photo might seem gory but to me, I find watching these guys eat somewhat fascinating. They are so efficient at what they are designed to do and they do it with such gusto. And the various facial expressions are a treat to witness, also. Well, unless you're a salmon.

L’origine de ce nom est un mystère. Peut-être issu des possessions militaires et religieuses de l’ordre des Hospitaliers (ancien ordre de Malte), dont le siège était situé à Arles mais qui exerçait sa juridiction sur tout le territoire de la « Langue de Provence ». Une autre hypothèse voudrait qu’il soit une référence aux transhumances ovines venues du bas-Languedoc. Enfin, une piste linguistique pourrait expliquer son appellation, le préfixe "kam" signifiant hauteur, arrondie, en langue gauloise.
Dans les écrits, la plus vieille trace de l’existence de Mas Camargues date du 7 mars 1476 ! On y apprend que la propriété du domaine relève des seigneurs de Portes, et ce, jusqu’en 1693, ou une sombre affaire d’héritage remettra la bâtisse entre les mains des Princes de Conti, proches parents des rois de France…
L’aura mystérieux et quasi légendaire de Mas Camargues donne lieu à de nombreuses théories et spéculations… Conservée par la tradition orale, une réflexion rapportée par un agriculteur du versant méridional du Bougès évoque l’aspect folklorique du lieu : « Quand, au début du siècle, un enfant n’était pas sage, on le menaçait de l’emmener chez le camarguiot. » Ainsi le patron de Camargues faisait-il figure de croquemitaine pour l’imagination enfantine.
Plusieurs propriétaires se succèdent, tous issus de la noblesse ou de la bourgeoisie locale. Derniers propriétaires des lieux, les Roux et les Vielzeuf, deux familles de Bellecoste, font de Mas Camargues l’un des domaines agricoles les plus avancés techniquement de la région ! La modernisation de la structure est notamment marquée par la mise en place d’un moulin à eau qui fournit l’énergie nécessaire pour animer une machine à battre les céréales. Alors que partout, le battage était exécuté au fléau ou par foulage animal, le machinisme agricole faisait son entrée à Mas Camargues.
Malheureusement, les changements amenés par la Première Guerre Mondiale ne permirent pas à ce modèle de subsister.
Ainsi, il y a 100 ans, une compagnie d’électrification (qui deviendra EDF en 1946) va racheter le domaine dans le but de construire un barrage sur le cours du haut Tarn. Ce projet n’ayant jamais vu le jour et c’est le Parc national des Cévennes qui finira par acquérir la propriété en 1974…

Wallington Hall, Nr. Cambo, Northumberland
Wallington Hall is a Grade 1 Listed building situated approx. 12 miles to the west of Morpeth, Northumberland. It was originally owned by the Fenwick family but after severe financial problems, the family was forced to sell many of their properties to the Blackett family.
The Hall house was rebuilt in 1688 and some years later it was transformed again in Palladian style. In 1777 it passed over to the Trevelyan family. The Hall is set in 100 acres of parkland. It possesses an ornamental lake, a walled garden, lawns and a wooded valley. Title passed to the National Trust in 1942.
It is a lovely property and well worth a visit.
This largely douce range of hills, north of Glasgow, does possess one or two dramatic corners that may surprise. This sizeable, 'Cairngorm-esque,' corrie is one of several bites taken out of the northern aspects of these hills. Another bonus of tramping these parts is that you're almost certain of having the place to yourself. The 'lemmings', heads-down, en route to nearby Earl's Seat (highest point of the Campsie Fells) & Dumgoyne, seem to forgo exploring these escarpments. I've never met anyone here on numerous visits, even though I've often noted a steady stream on the Campsie 'trade route' whilst enjoying my solitude.

This scene is inspired by the Japanese manga/anime "Mushi-Shi", 蟲師 ... which is about as "atmospheric" of an anime as they come. The story features ubiquitous paranormal creatures called Mushi (蟲) that often have a supernatural effect on the world around them. Due to their ethereal nature, most humans are incapable of perceiving Mushi and are oblivious to their existence, but there are a few who possess the ability to see and interact with Mushi. These are the "Mushi-Shi". They insists that Mushi around us are neither evil or good, but just merely trying to survive like everyone else... thus the atmosphere intended in this scene is a "wary" one.
This scene is also intended to be of a "prequel" episode set in the medieval period, and not the later timeframe in which the anime takes place.

Possessing a singularity like few others, Buachaille Etive Mòr rightly demands to be the CENTRE of attention in a panoramic context. This effort therefore has always sat a little uncomfortably with me & could well be deemed sacrilege by the Buachaille's genuine admirers.
Trying to be clever is neither big nor clever.
Macro Mondays theme watch. I don't possess one, I scarcely know what day it is, never mind the time. This is a long defunct ladies dress watch (I mean the watch is defunct, not the ladies, obviously). The watch is 3/4 inch across the outer casing, there is about 3/8th of an inch visible here.
I got quite wound up with this weeks theme and this image didn't tick all the boxes for me. I couldn't quite put a finger on what was wrong. In the end, strapped for anything else, I had to face up to using this one. Thanks for stopping and taking the time to look.

The sunset light at Bryce Canyon National Park is always a delight. In winter, few hoodoos receive direct light at sunset, and the view often becomes magical when contrasted with the golden hour light illuminating the mesas in the background. I captured this shot at the Sunset Point vista, featuring some of the most iconic hoodoos in the foreground alongside the remarkable layers of rock formations behind them. Every time I examine these images, I marvel at these rocks' intricate details and color variations, especially under the soft, even lighting.

The comet or marine betta (Calloplesiops altivelis) is a species of reef-associated tropical marine fish in the family Plesiopidae.
The comet is native in the Indo-Pacific Ocean and the Red Sea, commonly found between 3 and 50 m deep.
Adults are usually found near reefs, and in caves and crevices along drop-offs. The comet is nocturnal by nature, and will hide under ledges and in holes by day. During night time, it leaves its hiding place and swims along the reef searching for food.
Comets are predators, feeding on crustaceans and small fish. They catch their prey by approaching it swimming sideways and then waiting for the prey to try to escape.
Comets possess an eye-like shape which is actually the dorsal fin. When in danger, this fish will poke its head into a hole and expose its tail end, which mimics the head of the moray eel.
The dark brown to black comet can reach a maximum length of 20 cm. The white spots are found on its body, head and fins, except for the median and pelvic fins which have small blue spots.
De oogvlekrifwachter of kortweg rifwachter (Calloplesiops altivelis) is een tropische zeevis uit de familie Plesiopidae.
De oogvlekrifwachter leeft in de Indische Oceaan en de Rode Zee in de buurt van rotsige riffen, holen en spleten, meestal tussen 3 en 50 meter diepte. Overdag houdt de oogvlekrifwachter zich schuil en 's-nachts zwemt de vis langs het rif op zoek naar voedsel. Het is een roofvis die vanuit een schuilplaats zijn prooi vaak zijwaarts besluipt. Het voedsel bestaat vooral uit schaaldieren en kleine vissen.
Komt de oogvlekrifwachter zelf in gevaar dan steekt de vis zijn kop tussen de stenen of duikt met z'n hoofd in het zand en laat dan alleen z'n staart en rugvin zien. Achterop de rugvin zit een grote oogvlek waarmee de kop van een murene wordt geïmiteerd en eventuele rovers worden gefopt.
De donker bruine tot zwarte oogvlekrifwachters bereiken een lengte van maximaal circa 20 centimeter. Honderden witte vlekjes bedekken het lichaam, het hoofd en de vinnen.

Le château du XII ème siècle, possession des d’Arfeuilles fut démoli en 1880, à l’exception de la tour nord très remaniée. Sur son emplacement, le comte d’Arfeuilles fit construire la demeure actuelle dans le style néo gothique, sur les plans de Jean Moreau. Bâtie sur une éminence, la façade ouest domine la vallée de l’Allier. Le château présente un plan en L, à un étage et combles aménagés en surcroît. Il est flanqué à l’angle nord est de la tour circulaire du XII ème siècle, couronnée d’un chemin de ronde sur mâchicoulis et coiffée d’une poivrière terminée d’un lanternon. L’angle nord-ouest est occupé par une tourelle ronde contenant, au rez de chaussée, la première travée d’une chapelle qui se poursuit vers le nord par un chevet à pans.
L’entrée s’ouvrait primitivement au centre de la façade ouest mais elle fut reportée au XX ème siècle au pied d’un pavillon carré accolé à l’angle sud du château. La façade postérieure est animée par une aile en retour terminée par un mur pignon; elle forme un angle rentrant dans lequel est logé un porche surmonté d’une terrassé a garde corps ajouré. Dans l’autre angle, formé par la jonction de cette aile et du pavillon sud, s’élève une tourelle ronde plus haute que les autres bâtiments. Le toit d’ardoise est éclairé par d’importantes lucarnes à fenêtres
pendantes.
Ce château sera la résidence d’été du maréchal Pétain en 1944.

I am still under the influence of Handel's opera "Semele" (seen or better encountered yesterday in London's Royal Opera House). Contrary to what the libretto says, in this opera at least, love is not just being killed by possessiveness and selfishness, but by the inevitability of both. For some reason, this image came to my mind. Fuji X-Pro1 plus Samyang telephoto lens.
In the Norse worldview, humans were thought to possess several aspects of the soul. One of the most intriguing was the hamr – an outer form or shape that could leave the body. Through hamr-travel (hamreise), seers, völvas, or specially trained men and women could send their inner self outside the body, often taking on the form of an animal such as a bear, wolf, or bird.
This journey was not considered a mere dream or vision but a real experience: the soul traveled into other realms, spying on enemies, seeking knowledge, or fighting spiritual battles. Sometimes the hamr could even attack others, leaving wounds or marks that appeared on the victim’s body.
Hamr-travel was closely connected to seiðr and other spiritual practices, reflecting how Vikings perceived the boundaries between body, soul, and world as far more fluid than we do today.
