Jefferson County. Postcard view of the railroad station and the Milwaukee Road electric substation at Piedmont (circa 1920s). Piedmont took its name from its location at the foot of the long grade west up to Pipestone Pass ("pied" is French for "foot"). Corner of this charming village on the hills around Asti.

The village is wonderful, quiet, so pleasing, and here you can find a scented and aromatic red wine, the Ruché. I assure you, it is fantastic....

Piedmont Grocery, located at 4038 Piedmont Ave in Oakland, has been serving the Piedmont district since 1903. In 1967, the supermarket was reconstructed. Since then, only minor changes have taken place, and this supermarket is something of a time capsule. It continues to do a brisk business with the Piedmont community.

I took Linus to Loose Nuts Cycles in Atlanta to get three broken spokes replaced, and Chris not only knocked it out in record time, he told me about a rails-to-trails project downtown that, so far, is only a few paved miles that lead to Piedmont Park. I made about 12 miles out of it including riding around the park, and it was great! What an awesome area!

Piedmont was the home of James Nourse from about 1770-1784. The home that currently stands on the property was built later by Dr. John Briscoe, with the exception of a small portion to the right of the house that is more than likely part of the original home.

This is the Piedmont Train Depot located in Piedmont, Alabama. The historical marker in front of the depot states: "The Alabama Tennessee River Railroad was chartered by the Alabama legislature in the session of 1836-1837. Work was begun in Selma in 1851 and the rails reached Blue Mountain in 1861. Work was termianted during the War Between the States. In 1867 a contract was let to complete the road to Dalton, Georgia. Three corporations merged to form the Selma, Rome and Dalton Railroad., which reached Dalton in 1869. On June 20, 1868, the first train arrived in Cross Plains from Jacksonville."
