Castello di Mazzè -TO, Piedmont, Italy

The Manassas Gap Railroad was built to here in 1861 and was the site of the first troop movement by train to battle as Confederate forces from Winchester in the Shenandoah Valley under the command of Stonewall Jackson marched over the mountains to the west and boarded here to take the narrow gauge line to Manassas and fight in the First Battle of Bull Run during the American Civil War.

Sugarloaf Mountain, a rocky monadnock rising above the Maryland Piedmont, isn't just a challenging hike – it's a panorama paradise. The summit, reached by several trails, offers sweeping vistas that stretch for miles. On a clear day, gaze out at the confluence of the Potomac and Monocacy Rivers, or pick out the distant speck of the Dickerson Power Plant. Breathe in the fresh air and let your sight lines dance across rolling hills and patchwork farmland. Sugarloaf Mountain is a visual feast for those who make the climb.

My dear Flickr Friends,
First of all, I apologize for my absence throughout 2024. Unfortunately, very serious events have occurred in my life, and the dream of living in nature with animals will no longer be possible.
My husband passed away from lung cancer, and it no longer makes sense for me to live alone, completely isolated in the middle of the woods with so many animals, in a farmhouse that requires constant maintenance. I'm old and so this chapter of my life has come to an end.
I will be giving all the animals to friends and moving to the village. Gigia, the horse, has already moved.
I intend to return to Flickr next year.
I wish you all good health because, in the end, that is what truly matters. The rest is just... the rest.
Thank you very much for your concern and messages. Your friendship means a great deal to me. ♥
Have a peaceful and healthy Christmas and New Year 2025.

Caldwell County Railroad's GP16 1811, still in its original Family Lines paint, heads out toward the NS interchange to retrieve two cars. The crew is seen passing the Piedmont Wagon & MFG Co. warehouse that was once a leading manufacturer of horse-drawn wagons. The building was built in 1889, 11 years after the company had been founded. The business closed its doors in 1959 as the demand for automobiles made wagons obsolete. Today, the building serves as a call center for a different company. Remarkably, the spur leading to the warehouse is still connected to the Caldwell County's active branch and leads all the way to the former loading dock still. The spur also continued past the Piedmont Wagon warehouse to a series of other buildings. Hickory, NC

A panoramic shot from the summit of Sighignola, a peak on the border between Italy and Switzerland.
In the foreground the lights of the Swiss towns overlooking Lake Lugano (the triangular-shaped town of Melide is very recognisable) : in the distance the lights of the Piedmont plain (Italy) and in the background the unmistakable silhouette of mountain Monviso.
