Northbound Amtrak Piedmont (run by state of NC) passing UNC Greensboro on the NS Danville District in Greensboro, NC. I've always liked catching these. I need to ride the route one day, round trip out of Raleigh.

Flash Flooding occurred in Piedmont, South Dakota from a slow-moving supercell thunderstorm on June 1, 2015.
Piedmont, located southeast of Evanston, Wyoming, was settled about 1867 to provide railroad ties for the Union Pacific Railroad. Moses Byrne built several kilns here for producing charcoal, and Charles Guild established one of the first ranches in the Territory. Both Byrne and Guild were Mormon pioneers.
Originally, the area was named "Byrne," but due to confusion with Bryan Station was renamed Piedmont

The Carolina Piedmont Railroad runs from Laurens SC, to Greenville SC it began as the Greenville and Laurens Railroad, which was chartered in 1878 and arrived in Greenville in 1882.
In 1896 it became (through merger) The Charleston and Western Carolina (which never reached Charleston), bought by Atlantic Coast Lines in 1897, but it continued to operate under the C&WC name. through a series of merges ACL became part of CSX and CSX to sold the portion from Laurens to a point short of downtown Greenville to the Carolina Piedmont Railroad on November 5, 1990.
This is the Piedmont Train Depot located in Piedmont, Alabama. The historical marker in front of the depot states: "The Alabama Tennessee River Railroad was chartered by the Alabama legislature in the session of 1836-1837. Work was begun in Selma in 1851 and the rails reached Blue Mountain in 1861. Work was termianted during the War Between the States. In 1867 a contract was let to complete the road to Dalton, Georgia. Three corporations merged to form the Selma, Rome and Dalton Railroad., which reached Dalton in 1869. On June 20, 1868, the first train arrived in Cross Plains from Jacksonville."
The DTO keeps getting better and better. It is heartening to see buisnesses of all kinds moving back to downtown. Piedmont Piano Co. gets extra props for installing a fabulous sign.

Editor's note: I am continuing my short series from Ben and Angela's engagement session. The introductory post is here, and the other posts are here, here, and here.
Winding down this small series from Ben and Angela's engagement session in Piedmont Park, I captured this image near the end of our session. The sun was setting, and Midtown Atlanta sparkled.
Pro tip for Piedmont Park: the best views of the city aren't at the top of this hill, but rather somewhere in the middle. We climbed to the top, but the trees seen in the left of this frame blocked most of the skyline. I asked Ben and Angela to proceed forward while I switched my lenses (from the Canon 35mm f/1.4L to the Canon 70-200 f/2.8L IS), and moments later, captured this image. Post-processing involved a contrast boost in Lightroom, but the majority of the work was in Photoshop, where I used two separate curves (one for the foreground and one for the skyline) to further bring out overall contrast. Can you recognize some of the buildings in this photo compared to this one I posted a few weeks ago? Symphony Tower should stand out...
Of the five images I posted from this engagement session, which one did you like the most?

Notes:
1) See my entire wedding and engagement gallery. I recently combined engagement and weddings photos together in one gallery because very few people actually checked the engagement gallery.
2) If you're interested in hiring me for engagement and/or wedding photography in the metro Atlanta area, please see this page. The prices you see listed on the page are for the 2010 season, but I'll be raising my rates for the 2011 season effective November 15, 2010...
