Got permission to shoot these old relics in a private yard found in the rural area outside or Port Lavaca Texas.

Lots of Lego pieces are in a drawer that the young grandkids no longer use ... it's to time to say goodbye to them!

the pieces to the puzzle ...

i wonder how

Yo... no sé, no sé qué pasó.

Bahia Honda Rail Bridge ~ last used 50 years ago

109 Year-Old Decaying Bridge to Nowhere

The Florida Keys U.S.A. ~ December 6th, 2020

*[left-double-click for a closer-look - 1938 narrow bridge-road]

*[narrow-lanes and no shoulder - very often mirrors clipped!]

*[not driven or walked-on for 50 years - 50 Years of Decay]

Bear with me. I felt compelled to do a series of shots of my favorite bridge in the world, with her magnificent colors of water and sky. I visit only once a year (for 46 straight years), and every time there is nobody here, leaving her and her ruins lonely and forgotten. I will never forget her beauty, or Henry Flagler. Thanks for looking.

The Bahia Honda Rail Bridge is a disused bridge in the lower Florida Keys connecting Bahia Honda Key with Spanish Harbor Key. Originally part of the Overseas Railway, the State of Florida purchased it after the 1935 Labor Day Hurricane and converted it to provide automobile use as part of the Overseas Highway in 1938. After a replacement Bahia Honda Bridge was opened in 1972, two spans of the bridge were removed (in the 80's) to accommodate boat traffic and make the majority of the bridge inaccessible to pedestrian traffic, but the rest remain standing. Red bridge-rust.

It was originally built by Henry Flagler as part of the Overseas Railroad which was completed in 1912. Flagler funded the construction of the bridge, along with the rest of the railway himself. It was purchased by the state of Florida and converted for highway use in 1938 after the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935. Rather than completely rebuilding the bridge after the hurricane, the existing structure was repaired and the deck for the Overseas Highway was added on top, as the existing deck inside the truss was too narrow for vehicular traffic. The bridge served as the primary mode of transport to the islands of the lower Keys, and as a primary evacuation route.

A new four-lane bridge was built in 1980, a few hundred yards north of the old bridge, replacing the old route of U.S. 1. Today, the former bridge provides a scenic overview of the area for tourists. Two of the truss spans have been removed in order to facilitate boat traffic, as the new bridge has an increased span height. The original bridge has fallen into a state of disrepair and signs have been posted on the bridge warning boat traffic to watch for falling debris, but all of the sections have remained standing (not counting the two that were removed). The easternmost section remains open to pedestrian traffic and is maintained by Bahia Honda State Park. Bahia Honda Rail Bridge ~ Spanish Harbor Key ~ Lower Keys

This is my Isul Lir redressed. ♥ I love everything about Pullips and their extravagant outfits, but I also love knowing that I can make them look more modern and/or casual too. One of my favorite things to get now are new pieces of clothing to redress my Pullips in. It's like getting a new dolly. :)

Ice pieces lying beside the riverfront, during golden hour...

I've had this idea for a while, so when the 'pieces' challenge came out I new exactly what I wanted to do. However this isn't it..... I actually wanted to use puzzle pieces instead of the mosaic texture that I actually used. Then the puzzle pieces would fall off my face. It was just two time consuming to create a puzzle texture in photoshop and I didn't want to steel someone else's texture. Perhaps next time someone I know completes a puzzle I can photograph it before they dismantle it.

The Tech Info:

Strobist:

One light set up - Canon 580exII full power in brolly box camera left and slightly in front. Triggered with Cactus V4.

Photoshop mosaic texture:

Using the rendering clouds filter I created some clouds on a new layer. I then used the Texture Stained Glass filter to create a shaded mosaic tile effect (who would have thought I'd ever use that filter). The hardest and most crucial part was to make the mosaic look three dimensional. I used the liquify to shape the mosaic around my face. (Wish I had another subject... I'm sick of looking at myself.) After the mosaic was shaped I simply used the magic wand to select various parts of the mosaic to delete from my face. There are quite a few more steps that that but that is essentially what I did.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to fire away.

I have been obsessing slightly over this furniture series for some time. I got this thinking I could polish with some Murphy’s oil ... not sure yet.

Decorate your workspace for spellwork with this Rustic Apothecary Cabinet. This antique cabinet comes in 4 color options (Black, Oak, Weathered White, Chestnut) in either single color packs or a fatpack. Also included with these are candles for the left or right side in white or black, a large raven skull terrarium and a marble mortar and pestle. Each separate piece is 1LI which makes 5LI in total when linked with all pieces. This comes with PBR and Blinn-Phong textures and also has custom LODs.

I'm excited to be part of an "exquisite corpse" project - I was assigned 4 body "parts" to craft... my body parts will be joined with those created by other artists.

I wanted to have a theme that links them together, so I chose Frida Kahlo, since her body parts, and the pain they caused her were so prominent in her art...
