an artist portrayed his decaying body, ravaged by aids by weighing candy and placing it in what looks like the size of a grave from which viewers are encouraged to take a piece of candy.

This is a close up on my tortoise shell corset which I produced as a final piece from the title and starting point of 'shells'. It shows the individual patch work pieces I created to build the corset, each one I sewed individually using a straight stitch setting using varied thicknesses and threads. Some of the patches I decided to turn upside down as I thought the texture was more interesting such as the patch at the bottom. I used coloured threads that were based on the natural colours of a tortoise shell but some I used more to brighten up the piece and make it more vibrant.

This piece was keeping my trunk from latching because the key would not disengage from the lock. Removing this piece at least keeps my trunk shut while going down the highway.
So, for this project, I took a people magazine and started tearing criticism as well as some thought processes through it. My original intention was not to even do this project, but this past weekend I was at a friend’s house reading this magazine, and I got really discouraged about the materials I saw because as I have stated many times, media without purpose (minus conformed thinking I suppose) really ticks me off. Therefore, I had a variety of “thought” experiments, sort of like the ones in the book, and implemented them in this magazine. I tore out pages, and did a few different kinds of experiments.
Some necklaces and lots of earrings... many of the pieces were made from various scraps of fused glass, I like how random they come out.
You can see here the different stippling patterns I tried out. The use of the pink thread let me really see how my designs were turning out. I learned alot about stippling with this piece.

For some reason, in all the craziness in my life now, the past couple of weekends I've -had- to do some woodworking. Like, I couldn't have stopped myself from doing it if I had wanted to. I believe it's because when I'm woodworking, it focuses my mind from the current stresses onto a completely different set of stresses. There's nothing like holding your hands a few inches from whirling saw blades to focus the mind on the present. Also, I've had the plans for this thing in my head for literally years, and for some reason it had to be built now.
The pieces came together soon after : www.flickr.com/photos/woodbits/3895074483/in/photostream/
