Let's face it. Life is actually like that sometimes. There are times when you really want - you really need - someone to walk with you, and there's no one there. Either they won't or they can't. Sometimes people who care about us would like to walk with us through what we're going through, but they just can't; they don't understand, they don't know how to help, they're too busy with their own issues, or they're just not there for any one of a hundred reasons. Maybe as you're listening today, you're just tired of walking alone.

What I'm about to say may sound too good to be true, but I wouldn't offer you false hope. You don't ever have to walk alone again. The reason that is not just a hollow hope is because it doesn't depend on the love of some human who may be there or may not be. It depends on the love of the God who made you - who is always there.

Listen to the ironclad promise of Jesus Christ in Hebrews 13:5. It's our word for today from the Word of God. "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you." He says never. He's offering you a "never leave you" love. Some of Jesus' last words on earth to those who belong to Him are these: "Surely I am with you always" (Matthew 28:20). After listing every conceivable force on earth, or in heaven, or in hell that might take His love away, Romans 8:39says: "Nothing in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

But He loves you so much He wasn't willing to lose you, so He sent Jesus. That's His one and only Son, and He sent Him to die for the sin that separates you from Him. So He could forgive you, so you could live in His love, so you could be in heaven with Him forever. And now that love is working inside your heart, drawing you His direction. This can't be a one-way love. You have to open up to what He died to give you, by telling Him that you're placing the rest of your life in His hands; hands that bear eternal evidence of His love for you. You can tell when you see the print of the nails there.

With Jesus in your life, will you ever feel lonely again? Sure you will. There'll be lonely times, but you'll never be alone again. You have His word on it.

A 'terril' is a hill made from mining waste. There are still a lot of them in the old mining regions like Mons, now being appreciated as green areas.

After two months of volcano eruptions in Iceland, Fimmvörðuháls from March 21 - April 13. and then Eyjafjallajökull from April 14 to May 23. Many great adventures and phototrips, I finally got the change do do what I really love about photograpy, SEASCAPES!.

The sunset and clouds were not so dramatic this weekend, but I also like seascapes during "blue hour" and minimalism scenes. The natural rock sculptures Reynisdrangar, at Vik in Myrdal, are usually been photographed from the other side, the eas side, so I prefer the west side of them. The waves on this coastline in Reynisfjara area often huge, and sometimes deadly, but on this night however the ocean was strangely calm, my boots got flushed anyway but that's a different story.

Cheers, Skarpi

The Holy Monastery of Simonos Petra, or more simply Simonopetra, is without doubt the most daring construction on the Holy Mountain. It stands proudly at a height of 330 metres on the end of a rocky mountain range.

The Monastery was founded by the Blessed Simon the Myrrhobletes around 1257, as a result of a vision. The whole of the building work, the Life of the Saint assures us, was accomplished as the result of divine intervention. In 1363 the Monastery was renovated with generous donations from a Serb despot, John Uglesha, who is regarded as the Monastery's second founder. In the Third Typikon, Simonopetra occupies 23rd place among the then monasteries of Athos; today it holds thirteenth place in the hierarchy.

Unfortunately, among the dates which are milestones in the history of the Monastery are those inauspicious days when it was afflicted with the scourge of fire. In 1570 the Monastery, together with its valuable archive, was destroyed by a great conflagration. This resulted in the loss of documents of inestimable historical value. It also explains why we know so little about the Monastery in the Byzantine period.

The good relations which developed between Simonopetra and the Princes of Wallachia in the period of Turkish rule made possible its recovery. However, there was another fire in 1622, causing further damage. Simonopetra, which had been a coenobium, became idiorrythmic in the 17th century. Although never looted by pirates, the intolerable taxes of the Turks drove the Monastery to decline and abandonment. By the heroic efforts of the priest-monk Ioasaph of Mytilene, Asimopetra (as Simonopetra was called in the period of Turkish occupation) began to function again in the late 18th century. The 19th century saw the building of the multi-storeyed building on the south side. At the end of the same century, in 1891, yet another disastrous fire swept away, yet again, the older buildings and the Monastery's treasures.

In the present century, Simonopetra has experienced a period of recovery and of increasing prestige in the Orthodox world - particularly after the liberation of the Holy Mountain from the Turks and under the enlightened ladership of the Abbots Neophytos, Ioannikios, and Ieronymos. In the 1950s, however, a period of decline set in and in 1963, when Athos celebrated a millennium of life, the prospects for the future were gloomy. But the 1970s were a time when there was a gradual revival of Athonite monasticism. In 1973 a new 20-member brotherhood from the Meteora established itself at the Monastery. The Monastery of Simonos Petra once had a large number of metochia with fertile farm land. The oldest of these would appear to be Petriotiko in Sithonia. Today, best known are St Charalampus in Thessaloniki, the Ascension in Athens, the Nunnery of the Annunciation at Ormylia in Chalcidice, and three others in France. It is also worth mentioning the metochi of Michael Voda in Bucharest, dedicated to the Monastery in 1566 and confiscated by the Romanian Government in 1863.

Simonopetra, because of the restricted space of its site, is not one of those monasteries where we can see autonomous, clearly distinguished buildings. The katholikon is dedicated to the Nativity of Christ and in its original form was built around 1600, while the form it takes today took shape after the fire of 1891. The Monastery has four chapels within its precinct and eight outside.

The Monastery's archive contains a host of documents in Greek, Turkish, and Romanian, together with inscriptions, and musical and other manuscripts, to which must be added its printed books. However, it must be pointed out that almost the whole of the archival material is post-Byzantine.

The sacristy contains a treasury of works of art, consisting of icons, vestments, silverware, antimensia, seals, and engravings. However, the most important treasure of Simonopetra is the left hand of St Mary Magdalene - she is regarded as 'co-founder' of the Monastery - which has remained whole for two thousand years. The Monastery today has a community of 50 well-educated and active monks.

Another example of the great power of lightning in the mountains in Colorado. This storm was parked over Gunnison, CO on the night of September 12th. I was traveling from Creede, CO back to Gunnison, when near the Powderhorn Guest Ranches, I saw the lightning lighting up the dark night sky. Surprisingly, this was taken around 8:10pm. Surprisingly dark for that night, oh well the days are definitely getting shorted as fall approaches.

of the silvery moon ...

its lulu in her natural heartful camoflage, hunting the wild sweet potato bone :)

tonight is the full october moon *

it's fullest brightness is at 20:02 universal time

native americans called october's full moon the hunter's moon or blood moon

because in autumn, when trees have become bare of their protecting leaves.. wild animals, well-fed from summer foraging, were easily seen in the light of the full moon by those who would hunt them

that was then and this is now.

native americans needed to hunt to survive ..

present day americans, except for a relative handful, do not.

in these days leading up to the united states presidential election .. there is a vice presidential candidate who - adding to a phethora of other harming attributes - slaughters animals for sport.. taking her children along to share in her idea of fun... (she actually named her youngest child, just an infant now, "trig" as in "trigger".. )

this candidate shoots wild animals even from the cowardly precipice of a helicopter.. encouraging others to do it too... by offering bounties for forelegs of the noble wolf ...

oestensibly a woman, she desecrates - and advocates the desecration of - our Mother Earth's priceless gifts ... indeed, one of her favorite endangering, gleeful shouts is "drill baby drill!"

another is one that could affect every being on this planet were she and her war-leaning cohort to win this election

it is: "i don't blink"

now, i would not put any energy toward their negativity and shameful dupliciousness were it not for this candidate's dangerous, chilling words,

"i don't blink"..

they foretell how she could adversely, perhaps ultimately adversely, affect every being on this planet.. if elected.

clearly, this election is a spiritual test for each of us here .. and a huge one

~ thank God we have a choice ~

so i decided to post an image for this full october moon as a prayer ~

may the light be obscured for all who would harm their fellow beings

and for those who are good at heart and of good intention

may it light their way home ~~*

amen

I just returned from another business trip to Cincinnati. Each time I've been there, I've stopped by Union Terminal, which encompasses many of my favorite things - Architecture, railroad stations, history, and Art Deco design.

Originally built in 1933 as the Union Terminal train station, the building was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1977. Union Terminal stands on a prominent location one mile northwest of the city center. Visitors approach the 10-story, arched, limestone and glass facade of the building from the east through a quarter-mile plaza. The dome is flanked on either side by curving wings. An illuminated fountain, cascade and pool lie in the foreground center. On either side of the main doors, Maxfield Keck's bas-relief figures symbolize Commerce and Transportation. In the late 1980s, the building was renovated and then reopened as Cincinnati Museum Center in 1990. It was recently named one of the top 50 architecturally significant buildings in America by the American Institute of Architects.

The park contains a dozen large lakes and 700 smaller ones, but only 131 lakes have been named. Lake McDonald, St. Mary Lake, Bowman Lake and Kintla Lake are the four largest lakes. Numerous smaller lakes, known as tarns, are located in cirques formed by glacial erosion. Some of these lakes, like Avalanche Lake and Cracker Lake, are colored an opaque turquoise by suspended glacial silt, which also causes a number of streams to run milky white. The lakes of Glacier National Park remain cold year round, with temperatures rarely above 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 °C) at their surface. Cold water lakes such as these support little plankton growth, ensuring that the lake waters are remarkably clear. The lack of plankton, however, lowers the rate of pollution filtration, and pollutants have a tendency to linger longer. Consequently, the lakes are considered environmental "bellwethers" as they can be quickly affected by even minor increases in pollutants.

I feel I am a solitary cloud,

floating over hallowed ground;

summer wind and nature's bounty

spin my world around.

In morning's light of day

your poems shine with colour,

the whirlwind of true romance

makes them sparkle like no other.

In the beauty of your face

I admire nature's perfection,

pushed and so inspired am I

to kiss your dear reflection.

So let your bright light shine,

as we wander hills together,

from a sunny day in May

until the glory of September.

The spectacular view of geothermal landscape in Landmannalaugar.

Landmannalaugar (Icelandic, meaning the people's pools) is a region near the volcano

Hekla, one of Iceland's most active volcano; over 20 eruptions have occurred in and around the volcano since 874. During the Middle Ages, Icelanders called the volcano the "Gateway to Hell.

The Landmannalaugar area is a popular tourist destination and the area displays a number of unusual geological elements, like the multicolored rhyolit. The many mountains in the surrounding area display a wide spectrum of colors including pink, brown, green, yellow, blue, purple, black, and white. Two of the most popular mountains among hikers are Bláhnúkur (meaning "blue peak") and Brennisteinsalda. (meaning "sulphur wave").

As the summer is coming to an end in the beautiful Guincho and in Portugal somehow September has began with lots of sun and good weather ... here you can

appreciate the most beautiful " Fortaleza do Chincho" (an ancient fortress as many on the Portugal coast, - this totally restaured)... one of my favourite places and a fantastic gourmet restaurant (see Michelin guide 3 stars) with a great view !!! (and with lots of happy memories from my parents to my friends of then and now - a favourite place) ... Here the winds are very strong so you can also appreiciate the magical view, the surfing going on as well as the lovely view of the the sea the the neaerby hills of Sintra --- indeed a magical place to relax and enjoy the best that summer (and not only) has to offer ... a magnificent view of the coast of Portugal in this case a few minutes from home (Lisbon)... I hope you will share with me this view and virtual "joy" ... (beware strong waves and cold water) ---

Also this is for dear friends who have come here and enjoyed this special place ....(as well as those who might come or just those who like the "scene") what is better at the " almost end of summertime " than to eat great seafood and hear the waves of our great ocean as well as a great view?! .. So my dear friends ENJOY windy Guincho, lay back and listen to this most relaxing music... be Happy and Zen.... (and have a great September...)

So I have not uploaded in a while, I have been really busy with school and everything and making sure that everything is set for my financial aid/graduation. But this is all over now and I am really stoked to jump back into everything. I will have a couple of shoots lined up for the VERY near future.

Recently I got my brand new Macbook Pro, yesterday.. ha. And I absolutely love it, it was the best decision that I have made yet. I need to thank my mom for putting money down on it for me since it is so expensive for a graduation present! :D But I graduate tomorrow, so I'm going to running around and getting everything done for that and after this weekend, the shoots will be flowing in!

Currently I am working on the photo's for the new upcoming Live to Love Summer line that will be released

THIS Friday, June 11th. I am stoked for everyone to see the shots, and the new products! They all look amazing and everyone is going to be really surprised with the new stuff that Taylor has come out with!

This is just a re-edit of on older photo that I took in like november of 2009. Since I don't have any new shoots to edit right now I decided to do some re edits, but this is gonna be a busy weekend, expect new work next week! :D

Let me know what you think everyone!

I saw these two slowly walking arm-in-arm on the opposite side of the road to me, so I patiently waited for them to walk into my mind’s eye frame in a shop window. But, at the last moment, they paused and crossed the road, walking right towards me; their eyes fixed on the display in a window immediately over my left shoulder.

My initial reaction when they stopped before my originally imagined scene was ‘Grrr…’ But, clearly, some pictures are just meant to be.

[Note: If you look carefully, you’ll see the woman closest to me has just become aware of my presence, and moments later she yanked her handbag up to cover and face and the whole scene quickly degenerated into laughter. : )]

What:

A long exposure (47 seconds) of the light house at Peggy's Cove.

When:

Almost an hour after sunset Sunday night.

Where:

Peggy's Cove

Nova Scotia, Canada

About:

I am trying to get back out shooting a little more often and of course I had to head to Peggy's Cove seeing how I had a special request from my friend Sonja :-)

Anyway, the weather wasn't all that great and there was a bit of fog rolling in around town. I was expecting to get near Peggy's and just end up turning around and heading home. Well was I ever surprised when I saw one of the best sunsets ever there!! I have a few actual sunset shots I will post later, this was taken almost an hour after the sun had gone down! As you can see there was still a lot of color left in the sky. It was still nice and warm with hardly any wind at all which is very unusual for this place!

We have had a lot of rain this year so I knew there would be some water in the granite surrounding the lighthouse.

Please, no multiple invites or crazy glittery graphics. Thank You

Con el nuevo AVE Madrid-Valencia no sé yo si mi querido regional seguirá iluminándome las noches de insomnio...

Me imagino este puente con estas vías llenas de matojos en breve.

Feliz fin de semana!

We don't need no stinkin' ghost town! We've got Jeff. Jeff found this place on a scouting trip a few days before the workshop and took Ken and me there as part of a private tour that he took us on.

Jeff lent me his circular polarizer for this shot, since I thought I had left mine at home, and I could tell as soon as I looked through the viewfinder that it made a tremendous difference. Turns out my polarizer was in my camera bag all along, I just failed to look in one of the pockets.

This one is for ARNEL aka LENAREH, Pinoy Kodakero's poet laureate. Perhaps what I appreciate more about Arnel is his ability to see the lighter side of life. I truly enjoy the simplicity of his view on life as expressed in many of his images. I have enjoyed his “can you guess” posts, his blue sky set, his food and sari-sari shots. His stream is full of treasures which can certainly make you smile. And Arnel is generous. He almost always never leave my stream without a few simple verses of encouragement, sometimes of humor. I feel honored to be his friend and godmother to his young son, Nico. And I am looking forward to meeting him and his family in person and spend some time exploring and shooting some of the beautiful places in the Philippines in October.

Hello flickr, how have you been?

Thank you all for the well-wishes and emails during my absence. I'm fine, I've just been lazy. I needed to check out for a while, and I did just that. It's likely I won't be around as much in the near future: its winter and I seem to lose a lot of motivation. I have a hard time finding the beauty in things when I can't feel my toes and its dark @ 4:30pm. I'm still trying to shoot and I've got lots of archive stuff (see above) so I don't think I'll be going dormant. A photo a day seems like a bit of a stretch though.

Photographically speaking, 2009 was a pretty amazing year for me. Much of my success is due to the amazing network of contacts and friends I've developed here. Your commentary and criticism is fantastic, your work is inspiring. All of you drive me is some way to become a better storyteller through photos. You all rock, I really can't thank you enough.

So, Happy (much belated) New Year. I wish you the very best in 2010, I cant wait to see what you have to show in the coming year!
