(Quality is of this set is not great but my soul is there ! Photos taken with a small ixus and now, equiped with a much better Lumix, so hoping to get better results in Cuba where I'm heading in a few days).
(Morocco, village in the mountains one hour from Larache, Nov. 07)… In my favourite café in the Rif mountains, time passes slowly even the days of the weekly market. Only men present, some spending long hours, smoking kif and/or playing to win a glass of mint tea (or more). They accepted my presence, a foreign woman and most did not mind being taken in photos ; only coming back did I realise that some were hiding behind the hood of their djellabas ; nobody objected though and I was feeling most welcome !
Later, I was invited by one of the young guys for "a simple meal" : I thought that it would be an affair of 1 or 2 hours but this took the whole afternoon as all the relatives living nearby and a bit farther had to get there and greet me in the large house before I was allowed to leave, ! covered with some beautiful jewellery that I could not refuse despite my protests (so embarrassing !)
This is the hospitality of Morocco in the remote countryside - irresistible !!!
This village café was a source of wonders for me, not only for the friendly people who were sitting there but also for the inside architecture : it used to be a government office during the Spanish rule, I was told. Basically, this largish café is divided in 2 with an entrance in the middle, dividing again the room in 4 sections, but there are many such communicating openings in the walls ; here you see the section on the left.
More from Lavera Beach, Grenada.
This place is really a beautiful spot. I'm glad we are able to see it before it gets developed. There is a resort and a neighborhood in the planning stages that will bring buildings right up to the shores here. Not so good for the turtles that nest here, but probably a good thing for the local residents of Sauteurs, the main city here in the parish of St. Patrick.
They also have a couple of other tourist destinations, one being Carib's Leap or Leapers Hill. This is where the last of the Carib Indians decided they would rather jump off a cliff than be killed or captured by the French. The other is Bathaway Beach which is just on the other side of the point that separates it and this beach. It is a much more populated beach, probably because it is easier to get to, but still seems to be largely a locals beach.
It will be interesting to see how all this changes, but I'm glad we are able to visit it now, virtually unspoiled.

My shot for the AiSLC Photo Club's theme "Halloween."
How I got this shot:

1x red gel
3x PocketWizards
1x 5D Mk II
1x Halloween prop
1x goofy model
The ghost is a plastic decoration found around the school. I propped up one speedlite against a box behind the model and sat the ghost half on the speedlite, half on the box, just so it would balance and get most of the light to shoot upward into the ghost. I think it was at 1/32 power, but it could have been 1/64. My other speedlite had a red gel taped to the front of it (one of my first attempts at playing with gels!), hand-held, pointing at my model (roommate Ryan), at roughly 1/16 power. White balance set to flash, roughly 5500 K, and tweaked in PS CS4. Shot at high enough of a shutter speed that I got this in a room fully-lit with fluorescent lights.

Investigators from Scotland Yard arrived in Islamabad on Jan. 4 to help the Pakinasti authorities on the investigation of the death of Benazir Bhutto. Rumours have surrounded the exact causes of her death, as a man shot her while she was standing in her car, waving through the sunroof, then a suicide bomber exploded himself. The oficial version concluded she banged her head against the sunroof due to the shock of the explosion, but other witnesses (including the person who washed her body) said she had been shot. Her party, the PPP, has called for a UN investigation but so far, president Musharraf has rejected this request and asked instead for the help of the UK.
On Jan.5, the Scotland Yard team together with the Pakistani officials went to Liaqat Bagh, the park in Rawalpindi in front of which the bombing occured, to be briefed on the events. The scene itself, however, has nothing to reveal in terms of material evidence as it's a busy street opened to traffic.
Here, a Pakistani official shows the English investigator the impatcts of the explosion on a nearby wall.

Battlefield House Museum & Park
The Gage Homestead, built in 1796, captures the way of life during the early 19th century. The Gages worked the land with their ten children and became a strong voice in the hamlet of Stoney Creek. During the War of 1812, the family fled to the cellar as the Battle of Stoney Creek raged outside. The Battlefield Monument stands as a symbol of peace and commemorates those soldiers who died on June 6, 1813.
Nestled under the Niagara Escarpment, this historic site is located on 32 acres of park land linked to the Bruce Trail, Canada's oldest and longest footpath.

The galaxy Messier 100, or M100, shows its swirling spiral in this infrared image from NASAs Spitzer Space Telescope. The arcing spiral arms of dust and gas that harbor starforming regions glow vividly when seen in the infrared.
is a classic example of a grand design spiral galaxy, with prominent and well-defined spiral arms winding from the hot center, out to the cooler edges of the galaxy. It is located about 55 million light years away from Earth, in the little-known constellation of Coma Berenices, near to the more recognizable Leo.
In the center, we can see a prominent ring of hot, bright dust surrounding the inner galactic core. Moving further out, the spiral arms peter out towards the edges of the galaxy, where thick webs of dust dominate. Beyond the edges of the dust clouds, a faint blue glow of stars extends to the edge of the galaxys disk.
Two small companion galaxies, known as NGC 4323 and NGC 4328, appear as fuzzy blue blobs on the upper side of M100. These so-called lenticular galaxies are virtually clear of any dust, so they lack any of the red/green glow seen in their bigger neighbor. The shape of M100 is probably being perturbed by the gravity of these galaxies.
M100 was discovered in 1781, and is now known to stretch roughly 160,000 light years from one side to the other, making it about one and a half times the size of our own Milky Way galaxy. By studying these infrared images of M100, astronomers can map out the structure of the stars and dust, and study the ways in which galaxies like our Milky Way were formed.
M100 is well-known to astronomers because of the five stars that have become supernovae within the galaxy between 1901 and 2006. These exploding stars are extremely useful for helping astronomers to calibrate distance scales in the universe, and to estimate the age of the universe since its creation in the Big Bang.
The red regions reveal dust clouds that light up under the illumination of the surrounding stars. The stars themselves shine most brightly at the shorter infrared wavelengths, showing up here in blue. The blue dots covering the entire image are stars that lie between us and M100.
Infrared light with wavelengths of 3.6 and 4.5 microns are displayed in blue and green showing primarily the glow from starlight. 8 micron light is rendered in red; the small contribution from starlight at 8 microns was subtracted out from the data to better show the dust structures near the galaxys center.

There are times when I've wondered
And times when I've cried
When my prayers they were answered
At times when I've lied
But if you asked me a question
Would I tell you the truth
Now there's something to bet on
You've got nothing to lose
When I've sat by the window
And gazed at the rain
With an ache in my heart
But never feeling the pain
And if you would tell me
Just what my life means
Walking a long road
Never reaching the end
God give me the answer to my life
God give me the answer to my dreams
God give me the answer to my prayers
God give me the answer to my being

my car is back in MA, so i walk... a lot.
as i was walking back to my apartment yesterday i saw this pattern on the pavement and wanted to capture it. i blew through my apartment like a mad woman to grab my camera and came back in just enough time.
also, today i reached 1,000 views! which made me incredibly happy. i just wanted to thank anyone who stumbles upon my stream and looks through it. and a VERY big thanks to all of the lovely people who comment on my photos; it means so much to me. i'm in love with flickr and the flickr community and i probably spend too much time looking at other peoples work and not enough time on homework. but that's okay, i just marvel at all of your talent <3

Found very near the village of Cruden bay, this is Slains Castle. It's a fascinating place and the main reason is the sheer neglect it seems to be suffering. It became dissused a long time ago, and has just been left ever since. There are no safety warning signs, no barriers to stop you going anywhere, no nothing. It's just castle ruins on a cliff top.
This gives you an unprecidented level of freedom whilst exploring, although it's definitely a place that calls for caution. There are old doorways which used to lead onto long gone wooden floors, or even out onto what must have been wooden walkways over a huge drop down the cliffs. Spiral stair cases lead up falling down turrets to end in just a top step, nothing around you. Or lead down into the old dungeons, completely unlit and un cleared and hugely spooky.
The site has been like this for an extremely long time but is now partially fenced off. It's going to be restored and converted into a hotel complex. This will be a fantastic place to stay and bring income into the area and provide lots of jobs for the builders and the workers when it opens but I can't help but think it's a bit of a shame.
Every castle you can go an see nowadays is in some way sterilised. You want to explore, but it's all toned down and rules and regulations and all sorts to stop you being able to interact properly with the space. Slains Castle is a dangerous and unforgiving place, there's no doubt about it, but this simply means it calls for that long forgoten quality of common sense. We looked round, explored, enjoyed the castle and didn't die. It's not that hard to do. We really are missing out on a lot with the other castles, Slains was a breath of fresh air which is soon to go. I'm glad we managed to see it like this, in it's honest state.

Second Life holiday parties was an incredible mix of trance, dnb, electronica, dark psy, goa, minimal, proggy, acid, experimental, industrial, noize, tribal, jazz, live music, country, blues, reggae, salsa, classical, opera, and Christmas music. I heard it all and then some.
I love music of all kinds. If it's good, it's worth listening to, so don't start with the nose-up-in-the-air over your favorite genre. Believe me... good music will always find an audience. An audience of sophisticated listeners will stop to listen to any good sound... even if it isn't part of your normal repertoire.
What is amazing is that dj's and musicians around the world know this, and they borrow from all genres to create their own personal sounds.
Here in Second Life, we get the results from around the world. World music mixes with the trendy sounds of the day, and we get the sounds that we love so much.
I want to thank all the dj's, musicians, club owners and event makers in SL. You guys made a holiday scene like no other. APPLAUSE & BRAVO ::::

I learned more from Calvin and Hobbes than I did throughout my entire high school career. Bill Watterson, the author of Calvin & Hobbes, taught me that life isn’t as simple as it may seem. There are always greater forces at work.
Calvin’s character is a 6 year old brat who wants nothing more than to be left alone to his own devices. He hates that he must adhere to rules and finds himself engaged in a never-ending battle to fight and change them. In one strip taking place in Calvin’s imagination, he finds himself able to walk on the ceiling. He also discovers that although he may no longer answer to gravity, everything else does. His shirt falls down over his eyes and the change falls out of his pockets. He got his wish and he wasn’t happy with it.
This is a common theme throughout the strip: if you try hard enough, you may be able to change the rules to which you must adhere, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the same goes for everyone/everything else. There’s a life lesson in there, somewhere.
Thanks, Bill. You changed my life.
Style inspired by .LisaK. – Lisa has a wide range of skills. My most favorite being the ability to wash out a shot, keeping it somehow interestingly devoid of color. Simple and to the point: One and Two and Three.

Can someone help me please? This database came with microsoft visual web developer 2010. I need to know how to use it. It isn't doing anything when I load it. The database at my school that blocks websites and connects to the printer goes immediately. It scrolls down and uses html codes and what not and then it is finished. We log on. But isn't this php database something I have to load and it inputs everything? or Something like:
tags: <?php, ?>
use is allowed
variable_sign: $
use is allowed
signs: [] () "" {}
use is allowed
statement: if (), echo (), else(), die(),
use is allowed
and so on and so forth?
This is screenshot 2. The database path and type.

So, I’m in the American Wing of the MET today, and I’m going through the visible storage areas, as
we’re all looking for something
Me, it so happens, was searching for some grandfather clocks I knew were there. So I find them, and then, over my shoulder, Yikes!, there she is, ...the ghost of Madame X, leaning on me and breathing heavy. She’s upset… She used to be upstairs, in the limelight! Gee, in New York, there was a time when
all the women wanted to be MadameX
She cries. She can’t stand it here, under glass, in this nether storage kingdom. She needs to be out, where the world can admire her. She’s recognizes me,…she knows I’m one of her countless admirers…but she only had airs for me, up there,..then, when things were swell. She’s had it with the MET now, though , and wants to go back to Paris…If only I could help her out of the glass, she whispers in my ear, …softly now, slowly,…she would take me to Paris with her… WHOA!!!, Where have I heard that before. This very past spring, I got taken in by
near the main entrance of the MET at the head of the stairs…I helped her down and out, with the same promise of a Parisian interlude and when we got out
Marie-Denise ditches me in the park - see note
( they caught up with her at JFK, and she’s back on the wall, but I barely say hello anymore). Hey! I shout, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice!...and I bolted. Got to head of the stairs, but Madame X was angry now, and quickly flew after me and gave me good swift kick in the you know where… luckily, I landed out in the courtyard safe. A little wounded pride, but at least I wasn’t out standing in the rain soaked park, as I was last spring, with a broken heart..
So, the last week of 52 weeks in B&W demonstrates that
lead to dreams...and ghost stories.
...but that's gonna cost you one penny! There's no free wishes! I tried to get some nice gorgeous candid photos of people in my local mall but that didn't last very long as I was kicked out by one of those mall-cops. Apparently it's against the law to take photos in the mall. Oh well, I'll find another place. So I hope on taking more and more of these shots like Stephan Geyer. Stephan inspired me to do this. Well don't forget to comment and favorite. Have a great day!
