You look at this and may wonder at a glance … what is it, what kind of car or you see abstract. I believe it’s a Ferrari not sure what model or year. I would like to think the designers of these beautiful automobiles want all of us to study and appreciate all their wonderful curves. Then again this image is a bit abstract with shapes, tones, lines and a bit of reality.
Taking images of shinny cars in a parking lot is not all that easy. EVERTHING reflects in the shinny surface and adds or maybe detracts for the intent of the image. If you look closely you will see letter from business signs as well the parking lot markings. I did PS out all the actual dust on the car to pull off the continual graduating tones of light and curves. You are probably right if you call me a perfectionist but I believe good photos are all about the details besides the subject itself. My wireless timer is a huge help in keeping me out of the reflections, my 1st trial shot bared this out.

Having a 30" monitor is awesome for web development. I have TextMate for editing the PHP/HTML and CSSEdit for, er, editing the CSS running side by side along with a couple of terminal windows for viewing the apache logs and my FTP and MySQL apps all on screen.

Sobranceiros à bonita vila de Penacova, o conjunto de Moinhos de Gavinhos é um local especial, pois sobressaem na paisagem, acompanhados por uma imponente imagem do Imaculado Coração de Maria..
Daqui o panorama pela zona envolvente é fantástico, na companhia destes moinhos de vento e de uma imagem do Imaculado Coração de Maria, como que a abençoar os ventos, a vila e o trabalho dos moinhos.
Três destes Moinhos estão ainda em condições suficientes de funcionamento, contudo apenas um funciona hoje em dia, pela mão do único moleiro da aldeia de Gavinhos, moendo o milho, o trigo e o centeio, que durante tanto tempo abasteceu a região e distribuiu para muitas outras.
Vale a pena visitar o Moinho em funcionamento e observar o árduo trabalho do moleiro, e o toda a dinâmica da estrutura, numa arte que se quer mantida e preservada em tempos futuros.
Desde o neolítico superior que existem instrumentos para moer os cereais. Tratam-se das elementares mós barquiformes. Encontram-se muitas em Portugal e até há bem pouco tempo eram usadas para fazer papas de carolo: mistura de vários ingredientes moídos, como milho, açúcar, leite, sal e canela.
Ao longo da história a Peninsula Ibérica foi enriquecendo culturalmente com a passagem dos povos ocupantes: com a chegada dos romanos apareceram os moinhos manuais circulares . Este sistema evoluiu e apareceram mais tarde, uns outros de construção mais leve, a que se adaptou um sistema de dois paus que permitia manobrar a mó mais facilmente . Estes foram os derradeiros moinhos manuais porque estava na altura de passar a usar as forças da natureza.
Os árabes introduziram a entrosga (principio da roda dentada) e conseguiram assim criar um engenho que sobreviveu até aos dias de hoje... estamos a falar dos nossos conhecidos moinhos de vento e azenhas.

En me promenant non loin de chez moi, je suis tombé par hasard, sur ce que j'avais lu quelques jours auparavant et qui avait laissé une trace quelque part dans un coin de ma tête.
C'était un passage sur les contrastes d'Itten. D'après Itten la composition d'une image reposait sur un simple concept : les contrastes. Le plus connu étant celui entre les couleurs. D'ailleurs c'est principalement pour son étude sur les couleurs que Itten est devenu célèbre. (Il n'y a cas taper "Itten" sur google pour en être convaincu.)
Il y a pourtant une multitude d'autres éléments qui peuvent constituer des contrastes forts dans une image. C'est pourquoi Itten donnait souvent à ses élèves des exercices sur ce thème. Je me suis donc mis, ici, dans la position de l'élève appliqué et j'ai essayé de reproduire ce que j'avais lu.
J'espère donc avoir réussi à faire ressortir plusieurs contrastes et que Mr Itten m'aurait accordé la moyenne pour cet exercice :-) => droite / courbe, couleur chaude / couleur froide, lumineux / sombre, net / flou

We have two small planting areas on either side of our garage door. On the left, whatever we plant there does well, while on the right, everything we plant there dies. So, we gave up and placed a pot there, along with another one on the other side of the arch that is the front side to our covered porch. There are several different varieties of plants in each one and this is in the pot on the right. All of the plants in both pots seem to be doing well.

"When it struck down racial segregation in public schools in 1954, the Supreme Court set in motion two revolutions: in black civil fights and in women's rights. One has carried black Americans into the middle class; the other has moved women from the home into the workforce. Constance Baker Motley has been a pioneer in both revolutions -- as civil fights Lawyer, New York state senator, Manhattan borough president, and federal judge -- and now she sheds new light on the great events of the 1950s and 1960s.Constance Baker joined Thurgood Marshall's legal team at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund in 1945 while still in law school becoming one of a small group of women lawyers of the period. She was chief counsel for James Meredith in his tumultuous legal battle to be the first black to attend the University of Mississippi; she argued ten cases before the Supreme Court; and she represented other leading civil fights figures, including Martin Luther King, Jr. In 1966, she was the firstblack woman appointed to the federal bench, over a firestorm of opposition. The stones are of a local metamorphic slate, set in a flattened circle, measuring 32.6m (107ft) at its widest and 29.5m (97ft) at its narrowest. The heaviest stone has been estimated to weigh around 16 tons and the tallest stone measures approximately 2.3m high. There is a 3.3m wide gap in its northern edge, which may have been an entrance. Within the circle, abutting its eastern quadrant, is a roughly rectangular setting of a further 10 stones. The circle was probably constructed around 3200 BC (Late Neolithic/Early Bronze-Age), making it one of the earliest stone circles in Britain and possibly Europe, too[2]. It is important to archaeoastronomers who have noted that the sunrise during the Autumn equinox appears over the top of Threlkeld Knott, a hill 3.5 km to the east. Some stones in the circle have been aligned with the midwinter sunrise and various lunar positions.
There is a tradition that it is impossible to count the number of stones within Castlerigg; every attempt will result in a different answer. This tradition, however, may not be far from the truth. Due to erosion of the soil around the stones, caused by the large number of visitors to the monument, several smaller stones have ‘appeared’ next to some of the larger stones. Because these stones are so small, they are likely to have been packing stones used to support the larger stones when the circle was constructed and would originally have been buried. Differences in opinion as to the exact number of stones within Castlerigg are usually down to whether the observer counts these small packing stones, or not; some count 38 and others, 42. The ‘official’ number of stones, as represented on the National Trust information board at the monument, is 40.
In the early 20th century, a single outlying stone was erected by a farmer approximately 90m to the south west of Castlerigg. This stone has many linear ‘scars’ along its side from being repeatedly struck by a plough, suggesting that it was once buried below the surface and also why the farmer dug it up. It is not possible to say whether this stone was originally part of the circle, or just a naturally deposited boulder.

White Sands National Monument:
At the northern end of the Chihuahuan Desert lies a mountain-ringed valley, the Tularosa Basin. Rising from the heart of this basin is one of the world's great natural wonders-the glistening white sands of New Mexico. Great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand have engulfed 275 square miles of desert here and created the largest gypsum dune field in the world.
The dunes, brilliant and white, are ever changing. They grow, crest, then slump but always advance. Slowly but relentlessly the sand, driven by strong southwest winds, covers everything in its path. Within the extremely harsh environment o the dune field, even plants and animals adapted to desert conditions struggle to survive. White Sands National Monument preserves a major part of this gypsum dune field, along with the plants and animals that have adapted successfully to this constantly changing environment.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics isn't telling Urbanites anything surprising (see Links). Perhaps no other Church teaching is challenged so constantly in everyday life, especially for a young urban adult.
There's probably not a hit movie or TV show that doesn't portray cohabitation before marriage as a natural "next stage" in a relationship.
And most of us know, or even are part of, the many couples who live together before marriage.
Yet what's wrong with that, especially for those in their early 20s and early 30s without kids (most of us at Urban Theology)? Surely to live with someone is to know them? Especially since the rising divorce rate shows marriage these days isn't much more than a big wedding bill and a piece of paper ?
Of course, the intelligent Urban Theologian knows that the Church has a thoughtful and nuanced defence of the traditional nuclear family.

حلمها التخصص في صناعة الصورايخ والمركبات الفضائية، وهي تحلق الآن في “فضاءٍ” اختارته ودنا إليها بتفوقها وتميزها، مايا رضوان نصر ابنة السبعة عشر ربيعا عادت إلى ربوع بلدتها كفرفاقود في قضاء الشوف، لتمضي إجازتها السنوية بين أهلها، لتغادر بعد أسبوع إلى الولايات المتحدة لاستكمال دراستها الأكاديمية في “جامعة ماساتشوستس الاميركية للتكنولوجيا” (MIT)، بعد أن اختارتها الجامعة كطالبة متفوقة وخصتها بمنحة لدراسة “هندسة علم الفضاء”. من مدرسة رسمية في لبنان إلى أهم الجامعات العلمية في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية، مسيرة فتية لكنها حافلة بنجاحات ما تزال مفتوحة على آفاق واسعة، وقد كان لـ green area لقاء مع مايا وحلق معها في سماء أحلامها الكبيرة، وبدت خلال اللقاء متألقة، متوثبة وفرحة بما حققت لذاتها ولبلدها. مايا من مواليد العام 1997 في بلدة كفرفاقود – قضاء الشوف، بدأت دراستها في مدرسة دميت الرسمية (مرحلة الروضة)، ومن ثم انتقلت الى مدرسة “الشوف ناسيونال كوليدج” shouf national college في بعقلين إلى أن تخرجت منها هذا العام 2014.
وأشارت إلى أنها أنهت “السنة الدراسة الجامعية الأولى بجامعة ماساتشوستس الاميركية للتكنولوجيا (MIT)”. وعن سبب اختيارها للدراسة التخصصية في واحدة من أهم الجامعات العلمية في العالم، قالت: “الجامعة لا تكشف سبب اختيار الطالب للالتحاق بها، لكن القيمين عليها قد يكونوا استندوا لعلاماتي العالية، ولا سيما في مادة الرياضيات وفي امتحاني الـ S.AT 1 والــ S.AT 2 (امتحانا دخول للجامعة في الرياضيات واللغة الانكليزية)، فضلا عن تفوقي الدائم في المدرسة ونشاطاتي في كل المجالات، إضافة إلى أنني حققت أكثر من فوز في العديد من المسابقات، وربما لكل هذه الاسباب مجتمعة تم اختياري لمتابعة الدراسة في هذه الجامعة، وهي من المرات النادرة التي يستقبل فيها هذا القسم طلابا من المنطقة العربية، إلا إذا كانوا يحملون الجنسية الاميركية”.
حلمها الـ “ناسا”
تجدر الاشارة إلى أن جامعة ماساتشوستس الاميركية للتكنولوجي (MIT)هي من الجامعات المتخصصة في علوم الفضاء، وقد اختارت نصر دراسة “هندسة علم الفضاء” Aerospace Engineering، وقالت: “مدة الدراسة أربع سنوات، ومن ثم تبدأ الدراسات العليا (الماستر والدكتوراه)، وفي الدراسة الجامعية نتعلم كل ما هو على صلة بعلوم هندسة الفضاء وليس فقط موضوعا محددا”.
وعما إذا كان طموحها أن تصل إلى وكالة الفضاء الأميركية (ناسا)، قالت بحماس: “أكيد (ناسا) أو cern (أوروبا) أو SpaceX (مؤسسة أميركية لتكنولوجيا الفضاء)، لكن (ناسا) NASA هي حلمي”.
وعما تحلم في مجال الاختصاص، إن كان التلسكوبات المتطورة أو الدفع النفاث على غرار العالم اللبناني شارل العشي، قالت نصر: “أكثر من يستهويني هو عالم الصواريخ والمركبات الفضائية، وسأسعى لتحقيق طموحاتي في هذا المجال، لأوكد أن المرأة اللبنانية بشكل خاص والمرأة بشكل عام قادرة بإرادتها أن تصل إلى أعلى المراتب وفي مجالات علمية متطورة ومتقدمة”.
وقالت “أتمنى تحقيق حلمي وأن أجعل الناس أقرب من معرفة الفضاء ودراسته، وأن اللبنانيين قادرون على الوصول إلى أعلى المراتب اذا كان لديهم الطموح”.
وشكرت نصر “عائلتي التي وقفت الى جانبي ومدرستي وأساتذتي في لبنان والـــ AMIDEAST (مؤسسة تدعم الطلاب اللبنانيين المتفوقين للتقدم الى الجامعات الأميركية)”.
أما والدها رضوان نسيب نصر، فاعتبر أن “ما حققته مايا ابنة السبعة عشر عاما هو فخر لجميع اللبنانيين”، وأثنى “على اهتمام green area في مواكبة ما وصلت اليه مايا وغيرها من الطلاب اللبنانيين المتفوقين”.
السنة الدراسية الأولى
أنهت مايا السنة الاولى بتفوق في مجال دراسة هندسة الفضاء، وقالت: “بعد اسبوع من الآن لدي حلقة تدريب Stage لشهرين في برنامج Zero Robotics الذي أعدته (الناسا) وسأكون مساعدة ومشرفة على التلامذة في المدارس الاميركية، وسنقوم من خلال هذا البرنامج بإعداد مباريات في مجال البرمجة بين التلامذة للمرحلتين المتوسطة والثانوية، فضلا عن برامج للاقمار الصناعية يعرف عنه باسم Spheres، وهو عبارة عن أقمار صناعية موجودة في الفضاء حاليا، وتحديدا في “محطة الفضاء الدولية” International Space Station المعروفة اختصارا بـ ISS”. وأشارت إلى أن “ثمة ثلاثة أقمار صناعية تدور داخل المحطة التي تدور بدورها في الفضاء”، ولفتت إلى أن “المباراة بين التلامذة ستكون حول كيفية برمجة هذه الاقمار الصناعية، والبرنامج الذي يفوز سيتم تشغيله داخل المحطة عبر التواصل مع رواد الفضاء الموجودين هناك”. وقالت نصر: “أحضر حاليا للعمل في السنة المقبلة، لكن هذه المرة داخل (الناسا) كعمل تجريبي في سياق اختصاصي، وأتمنى أن يكون هذا العمل ممهدا لبناء صاروخ دفع نفاث، خصوصا وأنني أحظى بدعم وتقدير وهناك فرص كبيرة أمامي لكن المشكلة في عدم حصولي على الجنسية حتى الآن، لأن العمل في الناسا يتطلب شروطا مشددة من بينها الحصول على الجنسية وأتمنى أن أحصل عليها في السنوات الثلاث المقبلة”. ووجهت نصر عبر green area رسالة إلى شباب لبنان قائلة: “علينا كشباب أن نواجه تحدياتنا بالعلم وأن ننسى طوائفنا وانتماءاتنا السياسة الضيقة فالعالم بات أصغر من قرية ولا يمكننا إلا أن نكون متسلحين بالعلم لمواجهة تحديات الحاضر والمستقبل في البيئة والعلوم والاقتصاد والتنمية”.

Exkursion zur Bärenhöhle Steigelfadbalm an der Rigi.
Wilhelm Amrein-Küpfer, der Sohn des Gletschergarten-Gründers, hat in der Steigelfadbalm-Höhle an
der Rigi im frühen 20. Jahrhundert sensationelles Knochenmaterial entdeckt. Diese Funde, vor allem
Knochen des Höhlenbären, gehören zum festen Bestand der Sammlung des Gletschergartens. Anlässlich der aktuellen Sonderausstellung „Der Bär: Vom Wildtier zum Kuscheltier“ bietet H. Blättler, Kurator
der Ausstellung und Höhlenforscher, eine Halbtagesexkursion zur Steigelfadbalm an. „Wir wissen nicht, wo die Forschung in einigen Jahrzehnten stehen wird“, schreibt Amrein 1939 im Vorwort seiner
„Urgeschichte des Vierwaldstättersees“. Und gerade deshalb dürfen wir uns freuen auf die neuesten
Erkenntnisse über eiszeitliches Leben im Gebiet der aussichtsreichen Steigelfadbalm, hoch oben über

Last night was a good night.
The air was crisp and past memories flooded our minds.
We know it won’t last.
We know that tomorrow it will all be gone and everything will be as it was before.
But the feeling of freedom that I had at that moment was exhilarating.
Feeling like nothing had changed.
We were still all the innocent and sweet girls we were before.
I wished for a moment that the past didn’t exist.
That no hurt and pain had been afflicted upon the friendship that had existed.
…past tense….existed, because everything changed.
Everything changed when they came into our lives and broke the bonds that
had been there much longer than they had.
4 years of friendship and memories that were torn and broken
by these people we’d known for a short couple months.
Pictures of them flashed in my mind.
Him hugging a girl that I used to know the way he had to me.
Kissing her and making her feel like the world didn’t exist.
That’s the way he made me feel.
I felt safe with him.
If I had known they would someday be together, I would have never befriended her.
Willa was my friend and they took her away from me.
I felt betrayed by her. I hurt because I knew that it was either me or them and she chose them. After 4 years of friendship, she chose a family that we’d known for a couple months.
And Christa, the girl I had trusted and became friends with through youth group, who said she would never go out with a guy like Jeff is now hugging him, kissing him, loving him, the way I had a year ago.
So, no. I can’t forget.
I can’t let go.
I can’t move on knowing that friendship is only as strong as the influence you have over people.
I wish I could let go. I wish things could be the same as they were before, when we used to blast the music in the car and have the windows down feeling like the world had so much to offer.
But I can’t. I can’t not hate them for taking away the person I loved, my best friend, my church, my trust.
Snakes like that deserve nothing more than to burn in hell.
