De Luis I-brug (Portugees: Ponte Dom Luís I) over de rivier Douro is een opvallende boogbrug in de Portugese stad Porto.
De brug is vernoemd naar koning Lodewijk I van Portugal (Dom Louís I, 1861 - 1889), die de brug in 1886 opende.

The Luís I Bridge (Ponte Luís I) is a metal arch bridge that spans the Douro River between the cities of Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia in Portugal. At the time of construction its span of 172 m was the longest of its type in the world.
The Government held a competition for the construction of a metallic bridge over the Douro River on a site that was adjacent to an existing bridge and would replace it. Teófilo Seyrig had already engineered the D. Maria Pia Bridge project nearby, whilst working as a partner of Eiffel. He now took sole responsibility for the new, major Luís 1st Bridge. The construction was begun in 1881 and the bridge opened on 31 October 1886.

Another from the archives......not good at shooting birds they are difficult.....was drinking coffee out on the patio one morning and this bird come flying into the tree in our neighbors yard. At first I thought it was a sea gull but after lookin it seems to be some type of heron? My friend Kim confirmed that it is a Black Crowned Night Heron.This was a long shot off and didnt have time to set up camera before it left so this was a quicky....it was hiding very well as you can see and wouldnt move....hope everyone had a great weekend....going back to Houston to bring xrays to Dr. which he is on 5 weeks vacation sooooo another 5 weeks before know what is going on.......

201 años dempués de la declaración de soberanía de 1808 Fai! quixo recordar esti 25 de mayu como'l día nacional d'Asturies. Pa ello, entamóse una folixa que cuntó con un recital poéticu, la ellaboración d'un mural y un conciertu con 4 grupos asturianos que punxeron la banda sonora a una xornada reivindicativa pola soberanía popular asturiana.
Más d’un cientu de persones participaron esti sábadu 23 na I Folixa Nacional entamada por Fai! como reivindicación y celebración del Día de la Nación Asturiana, recuerdu de la xornada qu’abre la historia contemporánea d’Asturies, el 25 de mayu de 1808, día de la declaración de soberanía de la Xunta Xeneral.
Doscientos ún años depués d’esti fechu y de la creación de la bandera asturiana, la organización d'esquierda soberanista Fai! quixo ufrir un menú folixeru y combativu nel marcu del CSOA La Reflexón. Abriendo les actividaes, Sergio Gutiérrez Camblor, Carlos Suari, Pablo X. Suárez, Xabel Vegas y Xandru Fernández protagonizaron el recital poéticu “Poetes agresivos (disparen les sos obres contra los que se duermen)”, onde tuvo bien presente, de la mano de los sos versos, la crítica social y la ironía más característica de cinco poetes que representaron na Folixa’l presente y el futuru de la lliteratura nacional, al tiempu que nes paredes se proyectaben imáxenes subversives qu'afalaben l'ambiente combativu del recital.
De siguío, dellos artistes plásticos emprimaben a diseñar un mural que tenía la histórica fras como protagonista: “Asturies enxamás vencida”.
Dientro del CSOA, organización, delles puestos de material y músicos ultimaben tolos detalles pa que dende les siete y media, la música entamara a sonar na I Folixa Nacional con un escenariu enllenu d'asturines y de banderes d'otros pueblos en llucha como les de los Països Catalans, Castiella, el País Llionés, Andalucía, Euskal Herria, Palestina...K-Nalón yera’l grupu encargáu de romper el silenciu col so rap dinamiteru 100% n’asturianu.
Darréu Arma X y 13 Palabras xubíen al escenariu de La Reflexón pa que la revolución de rimes nun aparara.Metanes l'actuación, una pancarta xubió al escenariu pa denunciar la illegalización de les idées y pola derogación de la llei de partíos.
Al finar esta actuación los sones reivindicativos dexaron pasu al actu políticu, onde militantes de Fai! lleeron un manifiestu en favor del 25 de mayu como día nacional d'Asturies. Enantes, un representante del Comité de Sofitu a Iniciativa Internacionalista n'Asturies, que llamentablemente foi la única organización qu'acudió a la llamada que dende Fai! se ficiere a los partíos de la izquierda nacional asturiana pa dicir unes pallabres, agradeció'l convite y presentó la campaña que ta desendolcando'l comité nesti país, a pesar de les torgues y la criminalización que careció y carez esta y otres munches opciones polítiques d'esquierda soberanista nel estáu español.
Na segunda metada del conciertu Vinagre de Sidra abría capítulu pa les guitarres y el rock, que yá na fin de la nueche diba zarrar Gomeru, depués de cinco hores de música dende la trinchera más reivindicativa del país.
Dende Fai! nun queremos que s'escaeza la nuestra historia, la historia d'un pueblu combativu que siempre supo tar a l'altura de les circunstancies. Güei tócanos a nosotres y nosotros, les y los asturianes y asturianos del sieglu XXI siguir na llucha en busca de la soberanía popular d'Asturies.

Jillian Geurts trained in musical theatre and performance with The Fame Theatre Company from 1995-2005. During this time she performed many lead roles in various productions and toured Queensland three times. In 2004, upon discovering Zen Zen Zo's unique brand of physical theatre, she participated in their Youth Physical Actor Training for two years. Jillian was a member of the award-winning St Rita's College Showchoir for three years (2003-05) and in 2005 she won the senior section on the Toombul Time to Shine talent competition. In 2006 she performed in Children of the Black Skirt (St Rita's College) and as the lead role of Dorothy Brock in 42 Street (St Rita's College).
In 2007, Jillian undertook a gap-year in Europe, after which she returned to study film at Queensland University of Technology. Throughout 2008 she continued her training in Zen Zen Zo's adult classes, as well as training and studying Butoh dance-theatre. She worked on the front-of-house team for Zen Zen Zo's In the Raw production Zeitgeist and in late 2008 was accepted into the company's 2009 Internship group.
In March 2009, Jillian worked with Butoh master's Muramatsu Takuya and Yuyama Daiichiro during a three week creative development, culminating in the sold-out performance Gaia - The Dairakudakan Project. From this, she was selected for cast of Zeitgeist touring to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2009 and Adelaide Fringe 2010.
She performed the role of Miranda in Zen Zen Zo's production The Tempest, as well as assisted with the documentary charting the show's creation. In August this year, she will tour to Edinburgh to perform in Zen Zen Zo's tour of Zeitgeist.

The steam-powered icebreaker „Wal” was commissioned in 1938 for service as an icebreaker on the Kiel Kanal. Since it consumed much more energy than oil-fired steamers, to travel profitably, it was converted from coal to oil in the 1960s. In the year 1990, the steamer set sail for Bremerhaven where it was restored within a year and modified in important areas. A crew of volunteers endeavours successfully not only to maintain the steamer with its attractive and interesting fittings and furnishings in the engine-room, nautical area and living quarters, but also to offer shorter and longer trips where friends of traditional shipping can witness what an old steamship has to offer. The steam-powered icebreaker „Wal” makes trips all year long. Destinations include the Weser, Heligoland, the Hamburger Hafengeburtstag, the Kieler Woche, as well as various maritime festivals along the North Sea and Baltic coasts.

Built by Richard Marot Booker in the 1770s, Red Hill became the home of famed American and former Virginia governor Patrick Henry in 1794. The home was considered to be the best-situated in all of Virginia, excepting Washington's Mount Vernon. It seems, however, that Red Hill was as beloved by Henry as Mount Vernon was by Henry's friend Washington. Considered "one of the garden spots of the world" by Henry and his contemporaries, it is still recognized as one of Virginia's most lovely plantations, with some of the best views and situations.
Despite its small size, between nine and eleven family members lived here while Henry was alive.
Later, his son added on to the home, until it had the appearance you see here. Of course, it burned to the ground in early 1919, not to be rebuilt until a private donation in the 1950s.
We really did enjoy our visit to Red Hill. Beautiful, quiet, surrounded by nature...It is quite a change from the more visited places like Mount Vernon and Monticello (though all of these homes should be visited if you have the opportunity!). Red Hill is still in "the country", with a winery nearby and working farms all around.
It's also inexpensive; only $6 for adults, and well worth the admission. Tours are self-guided, thanks to some very informative papers you'll be given at the visitor's center (where, more likely than not, some sweet almost-elderly Southern lady will chat your ear off about Patrick Henry, Red Hill, local eateries, and so forth). The visitor's center has a small but fine museum with Henry artifacts, letters from Henry's hand, his fiddle (*squeeeee!*), and a fantastically huge painting of Henry's "If this be treason, make the most of it!" 1765 speech against the Stamp Act by Peter Rothermel (third one down here). It's quite an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon, and of course your six bucks (and profits from any purchases made at the gift shop, where, yes, we found some goodies) go to a great cause. More than that, though, it is quite a thrill to spend time at the place beloved by one of America's best orators and finest patriots.

Investigators from Scotland Yard arrived in Islamabad on Jan. 4 to help the Pakinasti authorities on the investigation of the death of Benazir Bhutto. Rumours have surrounded the exact causes of her death, as a man shot her while she was standing in her car, waving through the sunroof, then a suicide bomber exploded himself. The oficial version concluded she banged her head against the sunroof due to the shock of the explosion, but other witnesses (including the person who washed her body) said she had been shot. Her party, the PPP, has called for a UN investigation but so far, president Musharraf has rejected this request and asked instead for the help of the UK.
On Jan.5, the Scotland Yard team together with the Pakistani officials went to Liaqat Bagh, the park in Rawalpindi in front of which the bombing occured, to be briefed on the events. The scene itself, however, has nothing to reveal in terms of material evidence as it's a busy street opened to traffic.

This dress is the ugliest dress I have ever bought. I liked the style but hated the pattern. Anyways, when I wore it....my aunt just loved it. I thought it was cute. She said it reminded her of a blouse she made with almost the same pattern. Just thought I'd share that with you.

Parkinson's disease is a chronic and progressive degenerative disease of the brain that impairs motor control, speech, and other functions.
Parkinson's disease belongs to a group of conditions called movement disorders. It is characterized by muscle rigidity, resting tremor, slowing of movement (bradykinesia) and, in extreme cases, nearly complete loss of movement (akinesia). Secondary symptoms include high level cognitive dysfunction, subtle language problems, and depression. Some people with Parkinson’s disease develop Dementia in the late stages of the disease
In contrast to many other neurological disorders, the nature of the brain degeneration that produces Parkinson's disease has been well understood for decades. The symptoms are caused by loss of nerve cells that secrete dopamine in a tiny midbrain area called the substantia nigra. These nerve cells, for reasons that are not fully understood, are especially vulnerable to damage of various sorts, including drugs, disease, and head trauma. The term Parkinsonism is used for any process that destroys large numbers of these cells and thereby causes the same characteristic symptoms. Parkinson's disease, or more fully, idiopathic Parkinson's disease, is diagnosed when no specific physical cause for the loss of dopamine cells can be identified.
My father, Peter, suffers from dementia brought on by Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy Body disease and Parkinson’s disease. He is not a well man and at the young age of 72 his ability to perform normal tasks most of us take for granted is diminishing. He often suffers from confusion and memory loss but despite that he is still a loving, gentle and intelligent man with a ‘Dad’s’ sense of humour.
Recently, due to an increasing difficulty he has with shaving, he began growing a beard. I love it. After seeing him clean shaven for most of my life I reckon it really suits him. He is quite proud of it himself – and I think he really enjoyed ‘modelling’ for photos despite the fact smiling isn’t easy for him these days.

Verantwortlich für die künstlerische Konzeption des „Herbstleuchtens im Park“ ist der Lichtkünstler Wolfgang Flammersfeld aus Unna, der in den letzten Jahren Parks, Höhlen, Stauseemauern und Schlösser spektakulär beleuchtet hat. Gemeinsam mit seinem Team freut er sich insbesondere auf die Illumination der Südbastion. Die vielen Gänge und Nischen bieten einem Lichtkünstler viele phantasievolle Möglichkeiten, mal hell und buntleuchtend, mal gruselig mit sich bewegenden Schatten. Man darf gespannt sein.

A cidade de São Paulo comemora 455 anos e ganha um presente do artista plástico e muralista Eduardo Kobra. Trata-se do maior mural em grafitti numa via pública da cidade, com cerca de 1.000 metros quadrados, está sendo produzido em uma das principais avenidas, a 23 de Maio. O artista e sua equipe do Studio Kobra estão reproduzindo imagens da cidade de São Paulo do início do século passado, criando mais um mural dentro do projeto Muro das Memórias, criado pelo artista em 2007.
O mural na avenida 23 de Maio será entregue no dia do aniversário da cidade: 25 de janeiro e foi autorizado pela prefeitura do Município, através do Secretário das subprefeituras Andréa Matarazzo. Para a produção do mural Kobra usa seus próprios recursos: “sou entusiasta da arte de rua e estou patrocinando sozinho o meu próprio mural”, diz o artista, que sonha com o apoio de empresas para dar continuidade ao projeto Muro das Memórias em outros pontos da cidade com a autorização da prefeitura.

It's the largest mural in graffiti on a public avenue of the city, with about 1,000 square meters.
Is being produced in one of the main avenues of São Paulo - May 23.
The artist and his team of Studio Kobra are reproducing images of the city of Sao Paulo the beginning of last century, creating another mural in his project: Wall of Memories, created by the artist in 2007.
The mural will be delivered on the anniversary of the city: 25 January and was approved by the mayor.
To produce the mural Kobra is using his own resources: "I am enthusiastic of the art of street and I'm sponsoring my own mural," says the artist, who dreams with the support of companies to continue the project Wall of Memories in other places of the City with the approval of City Hall.
I hate that the other ride at the bottom of the photo interfered with my shot of the Ferris wheel..but overall I really like the way the colors turned out in this. This shot is of the giant Ferris wheel in Wildwood, NJ.

Amphibians are declining rapidly; species, genera, and even families are going extinct at an unprecedented rate. One third to one half of all amphibian species are threatened with extinction, with probably more than 120 already gone in recent years. Habitat loss is the major threat in terms of number of species affected, but the rapid dispersal of amphibian chytrid fungus is of major and urgent concern because of its tendency to drive species to extinction quickly. Scientists believe many more species may go extinct before we are able to act. But there is one option currently available which can save hundreds or even thousands of species if we act rapidly: captive survival assurance populations. Zoos, aquaria, and botanical gardens play a crucial role in this solution, as they can provide ex-situ breeding grounds for the immediate conservation action needed before hundreds of species disappear.

As your aware i do like Urbex , its a nice break away from my landscapes and its exciting , This place however was just such a big temptation , Cwn coke works , when i say this site is "Dangerous " i kid you not , We got as far as the weigh bridge just as i crossed the yard i looked right to see a security guard and his German Shepherd who then ran towards me , no fear this dog new the command as the guard new i was no real threat he was concerned for our safety and his , he said he had a busy day with tresspassers , even the guards were not allowed into this area " Just look around you" his words !! But what a place sadly he declined to show us around :-) But a truely great guy who asked us to leave and then he disappeared as we did !!! I have no plans to return the one office were were in had Ammonia test machine , test tubes & Acid its an Urbex dream but a death trap !!! its alos one amazing place.
Me posting this may tempt others i would suggest no one tries to get in here unless with a skilled person with the correct PPE .
Part of the Urbex buzz is your doing something you should not !!! It was fun getting caught , the dog well i showed no fear thats the worst thing anyone can do a beautuful dog for sure , so glad Molly was not with me , oh and said sorry to the guard .Who did not call the police but as we were leaving could hear police sirens :-)
