The beautiful Sacred Heart Cathedral was designed by the architect W Tappin in 1887. The architectural style is English Gothic.

The cathedral is the largest cathedral outside Melbourne and reputedly the last Early Gothic style cathedral built in the world. Construction began in 1896 and continued until 1908 before lapsing through lack of funds until 1954 when work recommenced.

It was completed in 1977. Dominating the Bendigo skyline, it is built of Geelong sandstone and the tallest spire is 86.6 metres with the bronze cross at its apex weighing 3 tonnes and standing 7 metres.

Ecocentro Danaus (<-- video) is located a couple miles east of La Fortuna Costa Rica. It's a fairly small reserve, 600 meters of walking trails, but boy, do they pack a LOT in such a small area. Danaus was created about 13 years ago when some forward thinking people decided it might be better to grow life than cut it down. Danaus is like a mini oasis since it's completely surrounded by pasture and cattle land. Here's what Ecocentro Danaus says about itself: 'Ecocentro Danaus is an ecological reserve that preserves a natural regenerating secondary forest. Many different biological processes take place here and there is a great biodiversity of flora and fauna in its natural state.'Danaus is worth a look if your in the La Fortuna area and you need something to do for a couple hours.

Will: Why shouldn't I work for the N.S.A.? That's a tough one, but I'll take a shot. Say I'm working at N.S.A. Somebody puts a code on my desk, something nobody else can break. Maybe I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself, 'cause I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East. Once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels were hiding and fifteen hundred people I never met, never had no problem with, get killed. Now the politicians are sayin', "Oh, send in the Marines to secure the area" 'cause they don't give a shit. It won't be their kid over there, gettin' shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number got called, 'cause they were pullin' a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some kid from Southie takin' shrapnel in the ass. And he comes back to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his ass got his old job, 'cause he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile, he realizes the only reason he was over there in the first place was so we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price. And, of course, the oil companies used the skirmish over there to scare up domestic oil prices. A cute little ancillary benefit for them, but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon. And they're takin' their sweet time bringin' the oil back, of course, and maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and fuckin' play slalom with the icebergs, and it ain't too long 'til he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic. So now my buddy's out of work and he can't afford to drive, so he's got to walk to the fuckin' job interviews, which sucks 'cause the shrapnel in his ass is givin' him chronic hemorrhoids. And meanwhile he's starvin', 'cause every time he tries to get a bite to eat, the only blue plate special they're servin' is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State. So what did I think? I'm holdin' out for somethin' better. I figure fuck it, while I'm at it why not just shoot my buddy, take his job, give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected president....

"Tutti in coperta, ci siamo disincagliati!" sentii gridare il capitano

"Esplorate la nave, sostituite il cuoco: che nessuno sopravviva!"

Attraverso gli stretti, intorno a Capo Horn: fin dove possono fuggire i marinai?

Un sentiero difficile, una strada tormentata, e nessun sopravvissuto

Partimmo per luoghi sconosciuti all'uomo, dove le navi vanno a morire

Nessuna vetta elevata,

Listen Spirit of the sea - BlackMore's Night

I took a walk along the shore

To clear my mind about the day,

I saw a man I´d seen before

As I approached he slipped away...

I knew his face from years ago,

His smile stays with me ever more

His eyes, they guide me through the haze

And give me shelter from the storm...

As I walk I can feel him,

Always watching over me...

His voice surrounds me,

My Spirit of the Sea...

He went away so long ago,

[ Letras de Canciones encontraron en es.mp3lyrics.org/vI3 ]

On a maiden voyage far away

A young man then I did not know,

His life was taken that same day...

And it was almost like he knew

He wouldn´t see me anymore

He looked so deeply in my eyes, and said

"Wait for me along the shore..."

And so I come most every day,

To watch the waves rise and fall,

And as I sit here on the sand,

This ocean makes me feel so small...

But I feel my lover by my side,

And he makes me follow my own heart

We´ll be together some sweet day

When that day comes we´ll never part...

When that day comes we´ll never part...

Wait for me along the shore...

Blackmore's Night is a Renaissance-inspired folk rock band led by Ritchie Blackmore (electric guitar and acoustic guitar) and Candice Night (lyricist and lead vocals).

The origins of the band lie in 1990 when Candice Night was working at a local New York rock music radio station. She first encountered Ritchie Blackmore, then with Deep Purple, at a soccer game in which he was playing. The two became romantically involved and discovered that they shared a passionate interest in the Renaissance.

After leaving Deep Purple in 1993 and recording the album Stranger in Us All in 1995, on which Night contributed backing vocals and some of the lyrics, Blackmore became interested in the idea of bringing Renaissance music to a contemporary audience. Night's personality and singing ability made her the natural choice as "frontwoman." In 1997 the pair were ready to launch the band, the name being a pun of their own names, and which would consist of themselves plus session musicians.

Their debut album Shadow of the Moon was an instant success, particularly in Europe. In subsequent albums, particularly Fires at Midnight, there was an increased incorporation of rock guitar into the music, whilst maintaining a folk rock direction. Over time, Candice Night has increasingly participated instrumentally as well as singing the vocals, and is competent in a wide variety of Renaissance instruments.

The group performs at Renaissance fairs and Renaissance Festivals, as well as in stand-alone concert tours in appropriate venues including 'castle tours' of Europe, where they perform in historic surroundings for an audience dressed largely in period costume. The band has been successful enough to inspire a number of international tribute bands including: Renaissance Night and the Italian Morning Star.

They have also performed the music for MagiQuest, a live simulation game located internationally. In 2006, Candice performed a duet with Andi Deris on Helloween's "Light The Universe", which was released as a single in certain countries and is available on their album Keeper Of The Seven Keys - The Legacy, released in the same year. A new album is due to release in June 2008, called Secret Voyage.

This is Rod, whom I met manning the Hat Point fire tower. Rod is originally from the Seattle area, where he is a stage director. We chatted for nearly an hour, as he happened to be an avid medium format / Canon SLR shooter. In fact, he had a 20D with the 100-400 attached under his desk. This Summer (2008), was Rod's 16th season doing fire lookout for the NPS, a diversion which he's been doing since 1969. He also really enjoys stage photography and knows a number of pros around the north-west United States. He was staying in a cabin a few miles back from the tower. Rod was a pleasure to talk to and was quite an interesting fellow. You can visit his website at www.fineandperformingartsphotography.com/

Please forgive me for the following tantrum and indulge me just this once. It's not often I have a rant on flickr.

I get sick and tired of "proper" wildlife photographers having a go at those of us who choose to photograph in a zoo. To suggest that all the animals pose nicely and make photographing them a doddle, with no challenge or skill involved whatsoever, is misleading, ignorant and unfair. There is always skill involved in capturing any animal, whatever its surroundings may be, and other zoo photographers will vouch for the fact that there are certain challenges that a wild environment does not present, such as reflection, glare, and enclosure design.

If a photo is nice, and you get something out of it, does it matter what the story behind it is? Sure, a tale about being charged by a silverback or nearly stampeded to death by a herd of pissed off elephants is maybe a tad more exciting than "I waited for over an hour just to get this shot" (see above) but the bottom line is a good photo is a good photo is a good photo. I suspect that much of the disdain directed at zoo photographers is driven by a disapproval of zoos in general, which has nothing whatsoever to do with photography now does it?

Just for the record, I highly, highly respect those who are lucky enough to photograph animals in their natural envornment. I'm deeply envious of their skill and their opportunity. But why must certain elitists take the pleasure out of this hobby for those of us without the same privilege as them? Please don't tell me that I've got it easy or that there is no skill involved when I'm damn proud of the images I produce and the time and effort I put into them. Your superior and dismissive attitude really is unwelcome and ugly.

From the Helbronner's top, with the glacier cable car you can reach the Aiguille du Midit which is located at an altitude of 3842 meters above sea level and is the highest point of the Mont Blanc reachable by cable car. On Aiguille du Midi there are some bars, a restaurant, a shop and beautiful terraces. The drive from Helbronner's top to Aiguille du Midi is without doubt the most spectacular view of the journey both for the panorama and the technical aspects: in fact it is at this stage that there is the famous suspended pylon which had been a great work of engineering and is still really exciting to see. With regard to the landscape, the cable flies over the glacier of the giant that joining the Tacul forms the Mer de Glace on the French side. From the cable car you can see people who have chosen to make the crossing on foot and also the European scientific mission, the scenery is breathtaking and leaves you speechless, and I will let the pictures speak.

As I watched the images to make a choice on hubby's I-pod passed "Higher" by Faun Fables, nothing more suitable! Unfortunately I have not even found a version on the web and therefore anyone wants to hear it should get it otherwise ... ehm... I mean... not that I want to go so high so soon but I can't avoid to consider that, believers or not, when we think of the paradise we imagine it bright, white and blue and in my life and I've never seen so much light, so much white and so much blue sky: a true paradise!

The dunes were formed from sand deposits of the Rio Grande and its tributaries, flowing through the San Luis Valley. Over the ages, westerly winds picked up sand particles from the river flood plain. As the wind lost power before crossing the Sangre de Cristo Range, the sand was deposited on the east edge of the valley. This process continues, and the dunes are slowly growing. The wind changes the shape of the dunes daily.

There are several streams flowing on the perimeter of the dunes. The streams erode the edge of the dune field, and sand is carried downstream. The water disappears into the ground, depositing sand on the surface. Winds pick up the deposits of sand, and blow them up onto the dune field once again.

Digging a few inches into the dunes even at their peaks reveals wet sand. If the streams were to dry up, the dunes would disappear; in fact part of the motivation of turning the Monument into a National Park was the extra protection of the water, which Colorado's cities and agriculture covet. -Wikipedia

Ault Park is the fourth largest park in Cincinnati with its 223 acres. The Pavilion, dedicated in 1930, has an entrance consisting of a broad, double flight of steps, between which flows a water cascade. At the top of the steps you see the Pavilion's artistic columns outlined against the sky. From the Lookout on the Pavilion roof you can enjoy a 360 degree view - many miles of changing vistas in all directions. You can spot, also, from the Lookout, the Little Miami River flowing in its broad valley where once flowed the Ohio River itself in the pre-glacial age. Ault Park, like Alms, was once a vineyard area.

Ault Park is named in memory of Ida May Ault and Levi Addison Ault, her husband, a former Park Commissioner who was prominently active in Cincinnati Parks development. The initial 142-acre tract in 1911 and 9 subsequent acquisitions were gifts of the Aults to the City of Cincinnati.

My first attempt to do image filtering using the flickr API with a PHP script.

It first ramdomizes a list of all my groups an then checks the first 10 images in each group. I only show images that are favorited at least once and have all sizes available.

The API calls are rather slow. Therefore this script is not really suitable for interactive viewing.

The script itself is in the first comment. The function DumpArrayToTable comes from selfphp.com/code_snippets/code_snippet.php?id=56. I need it to figure out the arrays that phpflickr returns after it calls the flickr API.

So for for my degree in college I'm required to take a makeup class this month, which is pretty cool lol.

Today's theme was time periods. We had to do makeup for whatever time period we wanted; I made my partner look like Stonewall Jackson, and he made me look like a 1920's actor, which I thought, despite not having any clothes from the 1920's looked pretty good :). I still have the mustache on as I type this lol.

Anyways I hope you all enjoy, I might post more photos that were done in my makeup class this month :).

I'm so bored and sick of life right now. It feels like I am just living day to day to one day die. Nothing exciting happens in my life. I know I'm to blame for not making anything happen, but I'm in a rut. My mouth is killing me. I hate my hair right now, I want to cut it and color it, but I'm to cheap and feel like I've been spending too much money lately. I want to lose weight and be skinny and cute again, but there is absolutely no motivation to do anything about it. So I just sit here looking like a fat ugly ass, hating myself for being fat and ugly. I want to wear cute clothes and little tight jeans again. Or shirts without sleeves when it's hot. i brought my bike into the house so I could look at it and it would motivate me. I got used to it sitting there by the door, and started hanging things on it. I finally moved it to the garage. I feel tired all the time. I get plenty of sleep at night, but I'm so tired and my eyes are falling by like 4pm. So, I nap for a little. Then I stay up until past 2am. My house is so cluttered and messy, but it takes everything in me to just dust and vacuum. We eat out every single night, except when I get all crazy and will cook for like a week straight. I want to cook dinner every night, but I hate going to the grocery store, and so I just avoid it and we eat out again and again. I just want to be like Martha Stewart except I am lazy and tired and bored and hate everything. I always have "big plans" but I never go through with anything, ever.

I'm just sick of myself, and I want to change me, but I have no idea where to even begin or how to do it. Plus, like I said I'm lazy, and even if I knew how to do it I would be to lazy to do it. Basically, I need to know how I become unlazy?

Development of the C-124 began in 1947. Based on the short-lived C-74 the Globemaster II was intended to give the Air Force a long-range heavy-lift capability. The largest aircraft on use by the U.S. Air Force at the time, the C-124 could carry over 200 passengers or large cargos that would not fit in any other aircraft. The Globemaster II entered service in 1950 and they remained in use well into the 1970s. The C-124C version introduced more powerful engines, weather radar and better de-iceing equipment. These changes were later refitted to earlier aircraft. A total of 447 Globemaster IIs were built.

The great thing about Wales is that all trails lead to a pub.

And because I'm not too good on my feet at the moment,,,I'm tending to see more pub than trail.

Seeing as my daughter knows how to handle a screwmount Leica, I get to be in some of the photographs when she's around too. This shot looks like it's 6x6 format, but that's because it was the last shot on the roll, and for some reason the right hand edge got wrecked, so I had to crop it.

Of course, all the writing in Wales and the Welsh Language (like on the front of this pub) is back to front, relative to English, because we read written Welsh from right to left, like the peoples of The Levant, from whom, as Welsh people, we are all descended.

In the far West of Wales, in Cardyland, they often speak it backwards too, though this practice is slowly dying out as free schooling for children over 8 years old spreads there, thanks to the enlightened policies of our fairly recent and independent Welsh Assembly Government. Also, they wish to avoid the label of Satanism.

Unlike other countries, which either drive on the left or right hand side of the road, in our little but very ancient country, we drive on both, alternating between each side depending on the phase of the moon, and whether the month has a letter 'R' (written backwards) in it or not.

It's all to do with Welsh Druidism and the ancient rights of cattle drovers.

"The Venaria Reale site is a unique environmental and architectural experience of extraordinary interest. It is an immense, varied and imposing space where the visitor cannot help feeling drawn into the magic atmosphere of cultural attractions and amusements that were the pastimes of nobility.

Venaria Reale and the old market town represent a treasure trove of historic events and trials and tribulations. We sense this in the imposing baroque palace, with its vast gardens, one of the most significant examples of the magnificence of architecture and art in the 17th and 18th centuries. We sense it, too, in the La Mandria Park, one of the finest examples of European environmental havens where numerous species of both domestic and wild animals live in complete freedom, and where a significant legacy of historic and architectural wealth is preserved.

The new splendours and exceptional quality of the architecture of the restored ‘Reggia’ palace, the immensity and beauty of the gardens and natural spaces in the park allow visitors the opportunity to spend their time immersed in new sensations, savouring new experiences and enjoying the modern concept - accessible to all - of “taste”, “leisure time” and the “art of living”.

The ‘Reggia di Venaria Reale’ royal palace and the residence of La Mandria have been declared “World Heritage” sites by UNESCO."

About 5 Sec Faces

This is a street photography project between Fleecircus and Danny St to capture the different personalities that make up face of Singapore. We roam around the streets of Singapore with an illustration board for a makeshift background, look for strangers with distinct faces, then ask "Can I take your picture? It'll just take 5 seconds..." If they agree, we quickly click away :)
