Today was one of the most perfect vacation days ever. The weather was spectacular (it was finally screen door weather), the quilting was highly productive (progress was made on both new projects), the canning was delicious (strawberry-lemonade concentrate), and most of all, the Assassin's Creed was extremely fun (we only crashed Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine twice before storming the doge's palazzo!). I capped the afternoon off by actually getting up off my duff to take some photos with the lensbaby fisheye attachment.

Garden Grub 1/120
elizabeth pointed us to "Garden Grub 120", a group devoted to taking photos of the food prepared from the garden (or just pictures of the garden itself on those nights we order pizza or something [although it shouldn't be forgotten that take-out pizza is really phenomenal when topped with fresh-picked frying peppers]). We'd already decided we needed to do some kind of photo-a-day thing of the garden because every year August rolls around and we figure we can't take more pictures of tomatoes and peppers because we've taken them all before. But then February rolls around and all we want is to see pictures of the lush garden in late summer. D'oh! This must not happen this year!
Anyway, this is a salad made from butterhead buttercrunch lettuce grown on the deck, and coral shell peas grown in the garden. The carrots are from the grocery store (the storeshare?).
On Sentosa Island off of Singapore it is pretty common to see Peacocks and Peahens. This one happened to be hanging out at the restaurant my wife and I were going to.
Planting peas on the ACE premesis. This included digging a rabbit fence, planting the (non-genetically-modified) peas, and watering them. I donated a bottle of coyote urine to the cause.
Perennial Pea, Lathyrus latifolius, is also known as Everlasting Pea, and Perennial Peavine. It is native to Europe, but is now a widespread invasive weedy species in North America and Australia. The large flowers are usually pink.

It's been a chilly gardening season this year but at least the cool weather crops are doing well. These peas are now frozen for winter soups.
This bee tirelessly tried to climb inside this sweet pea flower; she was at it a good 10 minutes. I think this is the last time I'll try to photograph bees with a telephoto lens. I'm afraid of stinging insects, but the telephoto just isn't very good for this. Out of about 60 photos, this was the clearest one...and you can see how much it has been sharpened. I think I'll risk stings rather than continue to use the telephoto.
I think the telephoto sucks anyway because the photos always come out blurry. ALWAYS. Without exception. Why I bought it I'll never know.
