The birds didn't eat these seeds, but they ate a little bit of almost everything else, hence the chickenwire.

Also, I know this is extremely stupid, but I was really excited to realize that peas grow from actual peas. Like what you eat. I guess I knew that, really. It's just that I'd never planted a legume before. It was pretty exciting.

If you've never tasted this, the idea is to create a thin gelatinous membrane around bits of food that taste really good, and then to put those bits in your mouth and wait for them to explode. Basically.

The first spheres I would taste were created from pea purée. After that, we did some mozzarella whiped with mozzarella juice. Both were (mildly) successful but were early days here, and nothing we tried was paired with anything else you would want to make them succeed.

If I had infinite resources and no other distractions I think I could easily spend a lifetime performing experiments with food. That and helping people, of course,...through experiments with food.

The Coral shell peas are getting actual peapods on them! And this afternoon we did a lot of seedling sorting and planning while gray clouds billowed overhead... and when we finished the setting sun appeared with a syrupy sunbeam directly on the peas. So how could I not take ten thousand of the same picture?
