It's what's for lunch

The genebank carry very delicate seeds that must be harvested manually. When the pea pod razzles it's ready to be cut of with a pair of scissors.

Lovie pea pod, the two peas are removable :)

We harvested our first peas of the season today! Boomer and I each got to eat five peas, and they were delicious. And then the pod went into the freezer, to eventually be made into pea pod wine with its later-ripening friends.

Pea pods flat, pea pods wet, pea pods that aren't going to make it into porridge, much less into the next nine minutes - crunch, yum!

Pea is cultivated extensively now in Montana and rotated with crops such as wheat. These particular fields abut rough topography adjacent to rimrocks where native rangeland vegetations persists in good ecological condition. This population has colorful petals relative to flowers with generally white petals in domesticated Pisum sativum. Intertwining tendrils from adjacent plants allow individual stems to stand upright. This site occurs on Broyles Farms, near Rapelje, Stillwater County, Montana.

According to Ivan Polunin, author of 'Plants and Flowers of Singapore,' the Butterfly Pea is a perennial twiner growing to about 3 m high. The anthocyanin pigment in the petals is used to colour nonya cakes blue.

This is some kind of pea flower, not sure which type but it grows on a vine and is very small!

Chick and pea are both firmly needle felted from dyed wool roving. Chick is a foresty-green roo-monster with orange tufted ears and tail. His ears, tail, and arm are posable due to a wire armature. He has a little belly pouch in which he carries his friend pea. Pea is a simply tiny yellow birdie.

Chick is rather hungry, and wears his (removable) checkered bib and holds a big spoon. Pea is keeping an eye on him to make sure he doens't get any ideas about eating her.

Lots of pea sprouts, looking nice and hardy. As you can see from this picture, I seriously need to weed the garden this weekend. And maybe set up some strings so the peas can climb up!

We had a tiny gardening chore this morning (before spending another fabulous vacation day of doing nothing but stitch and sit on the couch the way we always wish we could be doing when we're at work), and there was nothing to be seen in the peas then. But late this afternoon? A flower! EEEEEEEEEE!

The peas in the back yard are climbing the bamboo trellis and developing flowers.
