This smart rare PD2 was new Fishwick's in 02/1958 and built to the lowbridge design with the off-side sunken gangway on the top-deck. These must've been really awkward to travel on upstairs, whereby the seats are on the left hand side capable of seating four passengers with a bit of a step up to the seats, and if you were hemmed in by the window or even the middle pair with not much headroom to boot! It is seen here having just arrived at Haws Hill, Carnforth, from Morecambe while at the RVPT Running Day on 29/05/2016. Carnforth railway station is out of sight to the right of the photo. © Peter Steel 2016.

A long standing preservatrion piece is RT10 bodied RTL 1427. This body was a "fit-all" version of the the early RT3 body, demonstarted by the fact that as well as fitting RTs, they fitted RTLs as well. A few appeared on RTL chassis as disposal time loomed, providing more roofbox RTLs than the original plan in which RTL 501 carried the only top box. 1427 is now with Pavillion Coaches at Shoreham.
New in March of 1967 ex Southdown MS Leyland PD3/4 347 illustrates the much larger windows and the rotary side vents fitted to this last batch of Queen Mary's leading these to being referred to as the "panoramics".
Apparently the lack of a front ventilator on the upper deck when delivered lead to complaints in hot weather so the works reallocated (pinched) the opening lights from one side of each of the convertible bodies and fitted them into the front dome above the panoramic windows.

A very rare coach in its day & not successful. Here it is relatively new and showing its paintwork in the coach style. Note the signal arm indicators & bumpers.

Formation of rocks on top of Derwent Edge - it all looks calm and not a bad afternoon but at the time this was taken, the wind up across the edge was blowing to gale force strength and had been all day. When we eventually got down to the bottom to the car park at Fairholmes, my face was bright red with wind burn!
