The name Silver Star is attributed to a popular waltz tune of the 1920's when two young men Eddie Shergold and Ben White started a bus service running along the valley of the River Bourne ( as in Bournemouth ) north east from the city of Salisbury, Wiltshire in the autumn of 1923.
The first vehicle the two partners bought was a Ford Model T.registration No HR 9447. It had a 14 seat body fitted onto the chassis by Messrs Pitt of Fordingbridge, which is on the Salisbury to Ringwood road.
Salisbury Plain and it's surrounding area has for many years been a collection of Military camps and training areas. Imber, for example is a village taken over by the Army. My Grandmother talked of staying in Imber with relatives when she was a schoolgirl and young woman. In the 1960's I often to her to see the village on open days etc, untill she died aged 94.
Silver Star began a service between the Military camps and Salisbury. By 1927 they had 5 vehicles, based in a garage in Porton Down. Where any of the vehicle bodies were of Aluminium, they were highly polished, as a sort of trade mark.
Silver Star were absorbed into Wilts & Dorset Motor Services in 1963.
At least two buses used by Silver Star are still around.( Leyland PD2 double decker and a Burlingham Seagull coach ) I think (to be confirmed) that the vehicles are privately owned by some members of the excellent group: " Friend of King Alfred Buses" a group that keeps the old Winchester Bus operator, King Alfred Motors going. Every new years day, people can ride around Winchester in one of their restored buses, free of charge..

New to Stockport Corporation ( 67 ) during July-1967 . Passing to this Operator upon its inception i October-1969 .
From my purchased print collection , exact location of shot unknown. But it may well be inside the erstwhile Stockport Corporation Bus Garage , Greater Manchester .

In perfect sun this preserved low bridge PD2 reverses back off the stand in Hanley bus station on the occasion of the 'Hanley Finale' Running Day.

RTW467, a Leyland Titan PD2/3 with 8ft wide Leyland body is seen at Grosvenor Road, Hanwell after an astonishingly clear run in the middle of the evening peak from Shepherds Bush with a private trip. Between decks on the nearside can be seen holders for the plates used by London Transport's Bus electronic Scanning Indicator (BESI), a 1957 rudimentary "bar code" which would be scanned by roadside equipment and indicate to a control office the position of buses along a route.

I gave her a very quick makeover... was not sure if I saw the color scheme on another ebony else where, but this was the midnight theme was what came first into my mind.

Leyland 7RT ( PD2 ) - Park Royal H56R But this body was fitted during an Aldenham overhaul in February-1957 .
New to London Transport ( RTL 357 ) during September-1949 . Stored out of service in November-1958 , sold to Birds ( Dealer ) Stratford-upon-Avon , Warwickshire in October-1959 . Purchased by this Operator also in October-1959.

DB768. Brighton Corporation Leyland PD2 23 ACD was built in 1962 and despite being a half-cab it has a front entrance and staircase. It was converted to one man operation in 1966 but the driver had to twist round somewhat awkwardly to collect the fares.
It took part in the Aldershot & District Bus Running Day at Farnborough on Sunday, 7th September, 2014 and made several trips between Farnborough Main Railway Station and the rally venue at the 6th Form College. This is it having arrived from the station on such a trip.

Among the best postwar buses bought by Oldham were PD2/3's 337-361 of 1949 (337 appeared at the 1948 Commercial Motor Show and varied in details from the rest). This view taken prior to the opening of Ashton's Bus Station in 1963, at the old terminus of the Rochdale route 9 opposite the Fire Station.
Letter M was used by Oldham for short workings of the 9 route within its own operating territory between Hathershaw and Summit, so its unusual to see it used here on a departure from Ashton. The offside number box had pretty much fallen into disuse by this time as can be seen by it showing 11, a local Oldham route.
