what a haunting place

Another day in the outback. This is the Blinman to Parachilna road west of Blinman in the Flinders ranges, mid north of South Australia. I was just in a little 2wd Suzuki and this one stopped me! With a lot of help, the truck got going again. Lovely drive to that point!

Trying for a more impressionistic feel this time.

Sunset Lake Pamamaroo, Menindee NSW

Days 6 and 7 included a trip to the Outback, Ayers/Uluru and Kata Tjuta rock formations for sunset and sunrise photos as well as the desert.

Day 7 sunrise, as we were standing there looking at Ayers/Uluru rock waiting for the sun to come up I turned around to see if it was up and saw this image which to me turned out to be one of the best I took on the entire trip. This image has not been changed in anyway, this is how it came out of the camera.

So a word to the wise look around when taking photos you never know what you might miss.

I've no idea what sort of car this is, but it looks like it's been there a very long time. I can't remember the exact location, you can travel the whole day in this area & the scenery changes very little, so there's nothing really to jog my memory. Outback Queensland, Australia.

This photo was taken somewhere between between Mildura and Sydney. I was traveling by Greyhound and it stopped in right moment to capture this. It is one of my top 10 sunsets ever

This rose bush is out the back in yet another neglected area, overgrown with blackberries until we put in the hard yards and cleared them. It always puts on a show for me, I probably wish it was planted in a more visible place for people to enjoy.

This scene is typical of a summer day in outback Australia. Wide open sky, broad blue sky, wind swept cloud and rich yellow harvest.

The term is iconic in Australia. In reference to the landscape, "The Bush" refers to any sparsely inhabited region regardless of vegetation. It also refers to any populated region outside of the major metropolitan areas, including mining and agricultural areas.

Romanticising the bush was a big step forward for Australians in their steps towards self-identity.

//

This is why I love my outback office

The sun sets over the vast countryside west of Port Augusta, South Australia.

The track down to Cobbold Gorge at night. Unusual star trails are revealed in this near-equatorial view.

Mission accomplished - finally got to see the ageing GMs on the ARTC rail train - a long drive though for a handful of shots (1000km round trip).

Genesee & Wyoming Australia's GM37/GM43 on 8M42 work train are dropping rail lengths near the 220km post between Wirrappa & McLeay in South Australia on 3 July 2017.

After almost 18 months sitting out in the open on the storage roads at Dry Creek (Adelaide), these two 50-year old locos were fired up again in November 2016 for use on this rail train contract.

Travelling through the Queensland outback – the flat, dry land of the Australian savannah (it’s said to make up 23% of Australia’s land area!) – it was particular interesting to observe the shrublands ecoregion of central and northern Australia.

Some might call it boring country, but it’s here that you can see iconic Australian plants such as gidgee, coolabah, brigalow, myall and, of course, Mitchell grass. They survive and thrive in some of Australia’s harshest regions.

Time permitting, I’ll show some of them and more here on Flickr

Flickr
