OIlie defies the feline stereotype with his general indifference to boxes.

Last night, though, he came strolling into the kitchen while I had the scanner out in order to capture these vintage metal printing plates. After inspecting the scanner box and its lid, Ollie decided it would be a nice place from which to keep me company.

He didn't go into the catloaf mode, perhaps because he sensed it was a quick project, which it was. Instead, Ollie assumed the crouch that indicates he's watching and waiting to see what happens next.

I played with the same oil/water set-up today to see how this technique works with a point-and-shoot in comparison to an DSLR. So here are three more photos of this session.

At the Princess Royal Fortress Albany. From the harbour below the Australian and US set out in WW 2.

Once all the action of opening Christmas gifts was over, little Salty needed a rest. She tricked us all, though, because after we left the room she woke up and broke into her Christmas gift of dog treats, eating half the bag unseen!

One of the first signs of spring is when the desert tortoises appear again and they're HUNGRY!

New Brighton sea defences exposed as the tide goes out

Back in my home studio. Trying to get my head around lighting to evoke an environment. The photo above should look like a table in a room in an old building with a high window. Thats what the plan was anyway. I think it came out ok. As always, the final setup was a bit different than I started with and more simple as well. - www.apertureaffect.com

Strobist:

Basically one SB600 into a half collapsed umbrella pointing completely perpendicular to the subject and up high. Then a black reflector camera left to soak up some of the light.

I set out for this overpass to shoot a beautiful sunset. The scene turned into a somber tableau when I saw the teddy bear left for someone's lost child. Phoenix, AZ.

The view from my window of Gleneagles Hotel.

Finally got all the crap off the countertops in the kitchen!! Late afternoon sun is making it hard to take a good shot. I can guarantee this will be full of tools and stuff by 10am tomorrow morning

I can't believe that we are enjoying sunshine and reasonably high temperatures in April in Scotland! Long may it continue, it's such a spirit lifter! :-)

The wonderful Hall and Oates

22/03/16 #1177. A small boat hauled out by the River Adur on a sunny Spring morning

So hail, rain and wind yet we still rounded the corner to see this. The beach was strangely crowded during the storm; no doubt all who rounded this corner to live this moment. Waterfall is only accessible during low tide.

out-of-towners, but cool...

Out and about on the Lincolnshire Wolds, walking from home, making the most of the sunshine, lovely clouds, mud and big puddles.

We for a special photo shoot to an old train grave yard. Thanx to one of the sundancers who planned it. Had a ball . Very interesting.

Three friends out for the day at the CNE.

Susie my daughter-in-law having a go on the demo massage chair in a store.

I had a go too: it was great low down, as in the first pic, but it was quite unpleasant higher up. Quite a shock, as you can see!

NO substitute for the real thing, and as it has digital controls almost certain to go wrong as soon as the warranty runs out.

At least if your masseur dies on the job (so to speak), the money already spent is not wasted.
