In between to storm rainwater collection ponds is this concrete access way with a super small tunnel. When I was there in July the water level in the pond was easily 8 feet lower than the bottom of the tunnel there. Not quite bone dry. But hard barely wet mud all cracked in the summer sun.

For my Final Major Project I'm doing a Marie Zucker/Wendy Bevan/Heiner Luepke inspired shoot. As part of my project I have to sample different films and experiment and stuff. This sample was actually inspired by Mari Sarai, who does out of focus fashion shoots. Hence the out of focus photos.

Recently I took a ride on the Metra passenger train from Wheaton to the end of the line in Elburn, Illinois just to see what there was to see. I have taken photos along that route at street level and know all the views like the back of my hand. Being on the inside gave me a chance to enjoy the countryside scenery and see what was out there from this perspective. I snapped a lot of photos along the way but the green tinted windows really made it challenging to get a shot, not to mention they were a bit dirty on the outside, too. But, I worked on this one a bit in editing and this is the result. This is taken from the middle track as we approached the Elburn station.

Haven't had a chance to get out too much in the past few months so I took a few while we had some good weather this weekend that I'll be posting here and there. Trying to expand my "subjects".

I had this beautiful paper cut out created by Elle for our Wedding Anniversary.

It is the final line from a reading from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin that was read by my gorgeous bridesmaid at our wedding.

It reads “and when all the pretty blossom have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.”

I love that I met Elle through flickr and now have one of her wonderful creations on my dressing table.

This fun little concept came to mind while I was browsing around a craft store and spotted a set of working miniature wooden clothespins. Two Stormtroopers clearly got themselves into some sort of trouble and are left hung out to dry. How and why they ended up there, well, that's left to your imagination. :D

The set was relatively easy to piece together. The backing is foamboard with a sky blue front, and the cloud is simply a shape I cut out of construction paper and suspended in front of the foam board by two threads. The clothesline is coated string that I picked up in the necklace/bracelet supply section of the craft store.

As you may have guessed, the Stormtroopers are not actually suspended by the clothespins. Instead, they're tied to the clothesline with thin black thread, which simply slipped into the crevices of their shoulder joint. The clothespins were then carefully positioned to give the illusion that they were pinned to the troopers. One trick I used to help convey the idea that the troopers were hanging from their shoulders was to remove their heads. This leaves just a neck stump, allowing the helmets to sit much lower on their chest.

The butterfly—not pictured here—was the final touch to the image. It was simply a small piece of construction paper folded in two and cut into the shape of the wings. Two pieces of thread glued into the fold gave the impression of antennae, and it was stuck to the clothesline using a tiny spot of double-sided tape.

As I was experimenting with the Rebel 2000 and my Yashica TLR, I had several friends moving over to digital. The Canon G1 was all the rage and the G2 was coming out. I swore I would not change. It just didn’t seem right. It was so ‘unclean’. Eventually, I did bite the bullet and got a G1 as it was being phased out. No matter what I was told, this was just a point a shoot camera. A good one, but a point and shoot all the same. I continued to shoot with the film body and used the digital for some kid shots and to tinker with Photoshop at work. Then it happened. The Digital Rebel came out. Andre Agassi was pimping this thing on TV like crazy. I read a bunch about it on photo.net and was convinced it was time to go digital. I sold my G1 at Southeastern and picked up the Digital Rebel body. I intended to shoot digital and film while I honed my skills in Photoshop. I also had to come up with a backup plan for my files. Storing them on CD or just leaving them on my hard drive as my friends were doing was just not acceptable. I may have shot two more rolls of film after I got the digital body. I kept the film in the refrigerator for a few years thinking I would use it. I never did. Eventually I traded the Digital Rebel in for the 20D and never regretted the upgrade. It was with this body I started to upgrade my glass to the L series.

At the SouthBank Centre. This day I was going back home crossing the river and all the sudden I heard some band performing live under the waterloo bridge, at the skating area. It was the Hadouken! playing for BBC Switch!

Sweet!!
