Happy Windows Wednesday!

A central building on the UC Berkeley campus. Early morning light.

Pigs out of Los Angeles beat ass east for NS Ashland as the sun is about to dip off the horizon and blue hour takes over. No color correction necessary here. Straight off the card with a little crop job! It was pretty spectacular to see.

We went to a yard sale here and they sure didn't look like they needed money! I'd take that house in a minute if they gave it to me!

Out of Ecuador. This beautiful and amazing little hummingbird is appropriately named an Ecuadoran Hillstar and he is living in the high Andes Mountains above 14,000. In different lighting his head can show a sparkling light purple but this guy showed the pretty blue to me on this morning.

I recently heard an interesting anecdote about the origins of the word 'posh'. It apparently stems from the marine industry, and is a mnemonic for 'port out, starboard home'. This used to be printed on tickets of passengers on P&O (Peninsula and Orient) passenger vessels that travelled between UK and India back in the day.

Britain and India are both in the northern hemisphere so the port (left-hand side) berths were mostly in the shade when travelling out (easterly) and the starboard ones when coming back. So the best and most expensive berths were 'port out, starboard home' - POSH, hence the term.

Drop me a note in the comment section if you have heard this, or any other explanation of posh seats/cabin.

When 'climbing up' the Picos de Europa at Fuenta Dé, we continued our journey into the mist. The start of a great hike that day in August.

Mixing monochrome with colour is not my style but this was a rare occasion where I pictured the black/white/red edit the second I saw the guy step on to the escalator.

This cardinal sat long enough for me to photograph him before flying off to another tree. He really stood out against the blue sky, making for a great photo !
