While crossing Tasmania by public bus I spotted several lonesome places where people used to live. It seemed to me quite interesting to do this shots into the outside including the mirroring of the busses windows. To be inside looking out - like I felt during the transit through this wonderful and amazing piece of land with this very first look on it.

I'm going to be away in Melbourne until next Wednesday. It is my ill father's 87th birthday and I do not want to miss it. I won't be posting during this time, but will occasionally check in to the page for any messages.

Three Union Pacific SD70Ms pull a hefty intermodal bound for Chicago out of the sag between Creston and Malta in 2015.
Nowadays, UP's fleet of SD70Ms can mostly be found languishing in storage lines across the UP network.
Clinging on to the last of their summer foliage these two characters look a little out of place against their coniferous backdrop.
The Canon EF70-200mm F/2.8L IS II USM is a fast lens, most used for wedding photography. Although it can't shoot like a macro lens; but I like to use it for close-up nature photos. You can capture a bit of 'wildlife' along with the beautiful blooms. Its 8-blade circular aperture delivers foreground/background blur quality that is renowned.
Here are some of my tips:
- Due to the weight of this lens and its focal length, the camera shake could reduce sharpness. Steady hand and holding your breath while shooting as I don't use tripod.
- Control depth of field as narrow as possible by setting the lens aperture to maximum, i.e. f/2.8.
- Position the subject closer or increase the distance between the subject and the background.
- Shooting in soft and warm light. Backlighting can really bring subjects with fine details to life and intensify the foreground/background bokeh.

I went out early at about 0330 Hrs. to get some star shots.
My intention was shoot directly westward to get star trails leading in 3 different directions. I could not get around to my left far enough as I was right up against the fence line for this lone tree on the hill.
It all sounded good in theory looking at the map but the end result was not as planned..
This is 350 shots each 6 seconds at 112mm, 1600 ISO, f/4.0 and an interval of 10 seconds between each shot.
The tree is 200metres away.
A wider angle would have been better but the tree would become lost in the scene.
I will have to find a better suited tree tree.
I am glad to see the monarch butterflies out in numbers this year. Something is going right in all of this chaos.
Another bokeh experiment of a tiny strange plant, that can not be noticed until gone as close as can..
There is a section of road north of us called the Ferndale "flats". It is notorious for having white outs at that specific site when the rest of the way is clear up the Peninsula. Snow drifts accumulate pretty quickly on the highway in the right conditions and even the snowplough can't keep up until the winds die down.
