My garlic peeling tool, knobby on the inside, looks like dots with transmitted light.

I was testing a recently found Agfa Super Silette-LK with an indefinitely long expired roll of Fuji 800 film (causing underexposed, "thin" negatives) for Utata's Thursday Walk # 687. This tiny, cramped establishment served thirteen people with strangers happily seated shoulder to shoulder. While taking photos I didn't imagine my nostalgia would arrive so quickly. Fingers crossed that they will be open on the other side of this.

The Harris shutter effect combines different color layers from three successive shots to give colored ghosts to moving elements. A longer pause between frames would better separate the colored elements but the subjects walked into shadow, making them less bright.

This modified Harris Shutter Effect image of a road during heavy snowfall emphasizes things that move and other differences between three sequential photos while turning the background black. Falling snow acts as "white noise" against darker objects, like trees, rendering their outline in surreal, multicolored streaks.

The goal of this series of images was to seek interesting photos from a non-optimal location (too far away, partially obscured view) using sub-optimal equipment (a slow camera with a dim lens). The fastest aperture, lowest useful ISO and low shutter speed were used to maximize color information in the RAW file.
This group concentrates on the reflections seen in the windows behind the performers. The perspective is lower than what was seen directly and gives a different view of the drumming style and stance. Early evening outside light was bright, allowing the background to show through the image. Later, the outside was lit either by moonlight or dim artificial lighting (with a blue cast) and did not disappear completely. Reflections are apparent from the interior and exterior panes of glass.
Technical details
Photographed in available light. Raw files were generally exposed for foreground elements, rendering the reflections 2-3 stops underexposed. Aggressive processing (Adobe Lightroom) involved increasing exposure 3-5 stops, adjusting highlights and shadows, then using the 'curves' tool to darken the black edge of the spectrum. Desaturating blue reduced the distracting effect of night-time exterior lighting. Aggressive noise reduction (Lightroom, Noiseware) was necessary.
Utata's Iron Photographer Challenge 284 wants:

I recently found an AGFA Super Stilette at the Salvation Army store. It seemed in good order and cost less than a roll of slide film. I chose a roll of film that expired a decade ago for the test run, and this is just after rewinding the last frame. I applied a Fuji Superia Xtra 800 grain pattern in DXO Filmpack 3, because further noise obliterated the details of the plant in the lens, changed the distortion to a more pleasing state, albeit unrealistic, then flipped the image to enhance the initial impression of "plantiness" for the central element.
Tamagawa University Taiko and Dance Group (Tamagawa Taiko) performance 4/03/2011 at Ursinus College. The original images were accidentally overexposed. One drummer bursts into motion as his companions remain motionless. The Harris shutter effect, done digitally, combines color layers from three different photographs. Things that move between exposures appear as colored ghosts. The lack of ghosts indicates the stillness of the drummer - compare the upper left to the lower right, for example.
This photo of red mushrooms, possibly Hygrocybe coccinea, was not as sharp as I wanted. Might the Orton effect used in the recent IP201 challenge make it better?
The elements of Utata's Iron Photographer 201 should include:
1 - something soft (green moss)
2 - something roundish (red mushroom caps)
3 - Orton effect (Picasa's Ortonish)
The original photo had the leaf and adjacent mushroom in focus. The "Ortonish" effect at default settings brings out details in the leaf, by increasing color contrast, while smearing away fine structure.
The vivid color makes it seem like an overdone HDR attempt because the natural color is lurid. You can view an example without the Ortonish effect. Aside: Google's image search returns only flowers and raspberries in the "visually similar" category.

The Tamagawa University Taiko drum and dance corps performed for Sakura Sunday 2012 at Fairmount park in Philadelphia, PA. The audience was dominated by amateur photographers, as recalled by these six images.

Observation
This approach also modifies colors in a pleasing (to me) way. Interestingly, photos not available for public viewing are given much higher 'interestingness' rank than comparable public ones with hundreds of views.

Technical Trivia
Three frames taken hand-held were registered before abstracting red, green, and blue channels from sequential images. The color layers recombined to generate this image.

Camera Details:
I found an old Canonet Ql17-GIII I found in an estate sale that nobody wanted because it didn't seem to work. It was stored in aperture priority mode and would not work without a battery. Turning it to manual I got the shutter to fire once, then stick. They let me have it for for $5.00. A quick shutter cleaning gave photos like this:

The timer was not repaired at the time, and accidentally became engaged, locking up the camera again. Fortunately, a QL17 specialist started offering service on ebay (Alex Bonarski / rangefindercamera). Within three weeks he had fully CLAed (including timer and battery update) , replaced a defective lens element (for which he had spares) and returned the camera with a one year warranty. Highly recommended if you can afford it!
Utata breaks the rules: focus on the wrong thing or on nothing at all. In this case, on the ripples from a raindrop, somewhere between the subjects.
OIl (and charcoal) on paper. This was based on a detail of Velazquez' painting, I was using my winter painting palette and seeing I was in copying mode decided to have a go at this one (just a small study).This was done concious of Cezanne's baroque style.
Utata's Iron Photographer project 220 asks for:

2 - what you're reading now (Dr. Seuss, at bedtime, occasionally)
3 - polaroid (poladroid)
The phrase "Oh, the plaes you'll go!!" is the title of a children's book by Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel). It is occasionally inspiring for the hand model holding the oreos.

Image manipulations and gif generation done with StereoPhotoMaker, a freeware program by Masuji Suto & David Sykes.
When new it cost 30 cents for six frames on 116 (70mm film), according to the user manual "Picture taking with the Nos. 1 and 1A Pocket Kodak". The average hourly wage for a laborer was about 44 cents.
Utata's Iron Photographer challenge # 276 asks for compositions with:
1. Orange (a mandarin orange)
2. Drawings (a simple sketch, left around by a youngster)
3. diffused through something semi transparent
I tried the mesh bag that some garlic came in. Normal processing with any sort of contrast enhancement made the mesh disappear. This cross-processed version (DXO filmpack 5, cross-processed Fuji Sensia preset) best emphasized the mesh.
Looks best free viewed, but an animated gif version is below for convenience.

Following my trip to Aix en Provence last month (February 2010). Have made a series of charcoal/ink and gouache studies after a number of Cezanne's paintings. I have not paid note of the colour of these works, which would be a study in itself, rather I've concentrated on the dynamic surfaces and forms. at present I'm working on a series of landscape paintings and hope to incorporate some of these ideas into my own work.
Throughout my life I have made copies after paintings and find they are a great way to stimulate one's own imaginative life and creativity. Once recorded in a digital way further work is also possible.

Possibly a crepidotus species. The red spheres may be Wolf's milk slime.
How to make it: Two images taken with the cha-cha method (moving camera) were aligned and the gif was generated in stereophotomaker.
I was inspired to try looking at my surroundings differently after viewing Tetsuo5's stream which is rich with extraordinary photos of the neighborhoods he visits.

The Tamagawa University Taiko drum and dance corps performed for Sakura Sunday 2012 at Fairmount park in Philadelphia, PA. There was a sizable crowd, and almost every image showed the milling crowd. These six images try to capture troupe members in action.

Taken with a stereo realist. A light leak damaged the left image but some improvements were possible in Lightroom.
The stereo illusion can be observed through motion parallax, as in the animated stereo gif below, making it perceptible to people with monocular vision..
After all, it was only a day late in the walking. These thistles growing through a fence were missed by the mower due to fortuitous location.

One of several free-ranging cats stopped to investigate me while visiting the Caraiman monastery.

On a recent trip I tried to change my perspective by leaving an IR filter on the lens most of the time. This effectively lowers resolution, slows shutter speed, necessitates wide aperture and makes me think differently about composition. An additional challenge was that only very bright elements were visible through the glare of daylight on the camera's view screen.
The Masonic temple in Atchison, KS was open for viewing one day in July. The main chamber has several stained glass windows and free standing Masonic themed pieces. The windows are not visible from outside nor are they lighted naturally due to protective exterior metal blinds, installed to protect them from breaking in high wind. This stained glass window was back lit with incandescent lights and front lit with fluorescent.

Details
I am revisiting old JPGs while I have a trial license to use Topaz Clarity. Processing in Lightroom to straighten, correct white balance, correct distortion (Lightroom Distortion = -5 at this zoom), and crop. After auto tone correction the image was exported to Topaz clarity and processed with the "Street scene 1" parameters.

The annual maple syrup festival, recently renamed the sapsucker festival, was held March 1 2014 at the Audubon sanctuary. This eastern screech owl was on display for educational purposes.
