美脚 美しい脚の形 The Fine Art of Photography

The "tasty ingredients" for Utata's Iron Photographer challenge 296 are:

1. Something used for Communication (clock)

2. Something used for Contemplation (time, aging, or even hands)

3. A diptych (Holmes stereoview format via stereophotomaker)

I thought that passage of tie was best expressed with motion blur, rotating the camera as the image was taken. My notion of wrinkly skin proved insufficiently aged and thus evolved to juxtaposed hands that couldn't be realized with the images I have, since I don't tend to photograph my hands. I opted to composite one from the archive with mine now.

I oassed a guerilla art project.

A student with beer wandered past my cigarette puddle study.

Technical Details:

The original image was manipulated in Topaz restyle to improve reflection detail (blending the palette with one from a yellow-tinged cross-processed Kodak E-Chrome 100 photo) then combined with a B&W version to simulate a bleach bypass effect.

This modified Harris Shutter Effect image generates colored "ghosts" on a black background. Things that move and other differences between three more-or-less sequential photos are emphasized while static features turn black. These images lacked static features other than the people. The person on the left was selected for registering the three frames.

Walking home from a Saturday Matinee.

Technical Details:

The original image was manipulated in Topaz restyle to improve contrast but over saturated colors in spots. This was mitigated by preparing a B&W image then blending with the first - for a digitally constructed bleach bypass effect.

While observing a Karate class I used the (Olympus) Live Composite mode. It is intended for stars and light trails, so behaves as a highlight-priority multiple exposure mode, where darker objects disappear against a bright background.

The former Arensberg Shoe store still sports a vintage Florsheim shoe sign. I imagine this is they way Theen might have framed it. Her stream is rich with wonderful vignettes and abstract compositions that make me want to experiment, too. The right pair of windows are selectively cropped here.

I was inspired to try looking at my surroundings differently after viewing Tetsuo5's stream which is rich with extraordinary photos of the neighborhoods he visits.

Addendum: This was added to the Utata project "two" as the archival image.

The 3-position aperture on this not-fully-manual camera starts usefully bright when wide (f2.0, 2.8, 8.0) and quickly dims when zoomed (f 4.9, 6.3,18.0). On dark, dull days like this one it is necessary to either be close or think of slowing things down to exploit blur (ISO 100, f 18.0, camera determined 1/10s).

1/30 f5.6

Technical Trivia

Shot with a Hoya R72 infrared filter (720nm cutoff) hand-held over the lens (note vignetting). At ISO 400 and widest aperture exposure times were 1/10 sec and files were extremely noisy. Noise reduction in Lightroom or Noise Ninja was not pleasing. A useful alternative was using Topaz Restyle to replace the palette with one from a green-tinged cross-processed Fuji Sensia image I admire, then converting to B&W in Lightroom. This darkened the white specks in dark areas without consequently destroying leaf detail.

East Broadtop Railroad (EBT).

Mount Union, PA.

I walked back to the railroad crossing and took a look down the tracks. It is a fascinating dichotomy between the lone rehabilitated stretch of rail, forming a tunnel through the trees, and the adjacent abandoned sections. After the leaves come out in spring it seems truly abandoned. I have no idea if the rails are passable today. However, the number of people I saw on the tracks in the area indicates low concern for rail traffic.

Here's a link to more of my railroad related images.

Background

I was inspired to seek out this section of the railroad by one of lostfate13's photos:

A little internet research turned up this excellent guide to the EBT railroad throughout the region:

Portions of the original line in Orbisonia, PA have been rehabilitated and operate seasonally as a tourist attraction. Here's one place to start looking for more info:

I took Sly and the Family Stone's "There's a Riot Goin' On" album to the capitol. As Wikipedia notes, "Stone's intention of a darker, more conceptual work was influenced by [...] political assassinations, police brutality, the decline of the civil rights movement and social disillusionment." People came despite an unsolved political murder this morning.

Utata's Iron photographer 261 asks for compositions containing:

1- Something which is associated with the place where you live. (city streets)

2- An object you have found by the roadside. (mailbox)

3- A big blur. (manual zoom blur, a feature unique to the X-S1 compared to other fixed lens cameras)

This harvestman, not really a spider (those of the order araneae), was relaxing in the sun on the withering mushroom when I happened along. It was kind enough to let me take two images fom approximately six inches before scampering off.

I took a short walk uptown after the largest gatherings had dispersed. I am interested in seeing these artworks in context, before the plywood is removed.

Here I met a fellow covering graffiti damage to some of the street art with approximately the correct color of paint. He wasn't the original artist but was bothered that defacement detracted from the message so took it upon himself to make repairs.

Ghostly, in my dream,

The succubus hovers above me.

Like a lead band around my chest

My breath is cut short.

Gulping for air

Clutching at the night,

Drowning in my sleep.

I feel the world darkening

Around me.

My voice, barely a whisper,

“help…”

Those are big (webbed) "footprints" to fill, likely made by a goose. Recent cold makes this one of the last bits of open water in the creek.

This high key experiment attempts to preserve back-lighted waterfowl and the shadowed edge of the creek bend without losing the detail of the footprints. A gradient mask was used on the foreground (compare to highlight, top right).
