「白飛び」だの、「黒つぶれ」だの、私は興味がないのである。モノの形体が、鑑賞者に見えること、それで十分である。
以前から、何度も言ってきたのは次のことである。写真画像は、被写体に依存する。被写体こそが、すべての美のイデアである。形体が、わずかでも、認識できれば、写真画像の役目は終わるのである。
Ansel Easton Adamsだったと記憶するが、「写真は簡単すぎる」というような趣旨を書いていた。「デッサンやエッチングほどの技量と時間とを必要とするなら、写真はもっと偉大なものになっていただろう」とも。
現代における写真撮影による作品は、ますます簡単かつ変更可能な偽物となっている。静止画像も動画も、作り物ででっち上げで修正だらけの、偽物である。
現実の真実の被写体そのものこそが、価値がある。撮り方なんてどうでもいい、とすら言えるのである。
I removed the color information, allowing the two fragments on the left to be interpreted as one person in motion.

The JPG was contrast enhanced by a Daidoish curve adjustment, to crush black and blow highlights, microcontrast and fine contrast increased to about +30, exposure increased to about +0.80.

Utata's iron photographer 346 asks for photos with:
1) something round(ish) (cylinder is round in two dimensions)
2) something brightly colored (in a relative sense)
3) blurry
Moving camera blur was obtained with a very slow shutter speed and wait-then-drag camera movement. These accents are visible in the shadow area and lost in the highlights.

私は、デジタル画像が、ますます精緻化することを、美術作品として見るならば、遺憾に思う。デジタルは、安っぽい偽物の美術である。簡単に流通する複製物である。こんな代物に、不相応の価値を与えてはいけない。
ベンヤミンが複製技術に一定の評価を与えたが、それは大昔の全体主義時代のことで、現代は、少なくとも、当時に比べれば、はるかに民主的である。画像や動画は、頼りなく消費されるものとなった。つまりは価値がない。実物を連想させることだけが、その、精いっぱいの役目とすらいえるだろう。

Background
A stationary camera shows a static background with a subject changing position in successive exposures. Muybridge's motion studies, in contrast, simulate a moving camera and show an effectively stationary subject against a moving background. These may be displayed as a polyptych or combined into multiple exposures on a single frame, as here, to emphasize the subject.
The goal was to capture the motion of the scene as we walked down the street. This solution selected three images with approximately the same subject orientation that were scaled and oriented for maximal congruity of the bass before stacking. This has the effect of making the subject clear while the remainder of the image becomes a blur of overlapped scenes. It brought to mind the attention of bystanders on the bassist dashing past..

Composite images with a moving subject reference frame
I missed Thursday Walk but went for a walk on Friday. Somewhere along the way my camera slipped into manual focus mode but I didn't notice. Inadvertently I was revisiting a theme from Utata's Summer Project 2015: Off-focus—focus on the wrong thing or on nothing at all.
美しい太もも fine art : このような白黒作品の場合、コントラストが強く、白黒の差異を極端に強調して、画像に意味内容があるかのように見せる写真作品を、巷で散見する。
私は、どぎつい表現を好まない。常に言うように、撮影画像によってできた作品は、被写体に依存する。つまり、撮影画像は芸術でない。この点で、私は、完全にロラン・バルトに賛成する。写真とは何か。それは被写体に依存する一種の表現形式である。シャッターを押して、機械任せによって、排出された画像が、いったい、芸術の名に値するほどの何かがあるかどうか、私は疑問なのである。
しかし、撮影画像は、独特の価値はある。つまりは被写体の美しさを、簡易に定着させることができるからである。
話を最初に戻すと、であるから、私は、白黒写真においては、できるだけ目立たないおとなしい表現を好む。ただでさえ、白黒作品は、人為が強い。なぜなら、自然界は総天然色であるあからだ。それを白黒で表そうとするところに、すでに相当の、無理が生じているのである。
白黒作品は、あっさりと素直に表現するのが、よろしい。ことさらに、作為をしなくてよい。穏やかな表現で十分である。

3 - black and white
I was going to skip this week's Thusrday walk altogether, then Phillip reminded me to get out there while remembering missing friends. I went on Friday in that spirit.

ただまっすぐな線だと単純である。この脚は、ねじれていたり均整が少し乱れている。
自然の人体は、完全なシンメトリーはない。むしろ、それゆえに、個体固有の魅力ある。

Taken for Utata's Weekend Project: "Books" (14th-26th June) but posted late.
Taken for Utata's Thursday walk # 895 but posted late. The Isetta design is still eye-catching 70 years later.
This is an experiment to recover an interesting image from an underexposed, low contrast negative taken near sunset on a gray, rainy day.
Time for replacement of foam bumper and light seals, also.
Utata's iron photographer 345 asks for photos with:
1) an abstract shape (bokeh flowers)
2) something yellow (box of film)
3) a cup (bokeh tea cup)

This crosswalk scene was photographed for several frames, then three were selected in which a subject's gait approximately coincided. these were registered on the moving person before generating a subtractive filter Harris Shutter Effect (HSE) image. The person was well registered in each frame with details disappearing into a black void in the composite. These were restored by blending with the stacked (SNR) image through a mask.
Edit: The original was replaced with a version using a large area mask, with a large blur radius, to eliminate a "spotlight effect" at the point of blending.
