On August 6th, 2016, Grayslake residents Josh Schneider and Matt Kozak helped organize "Spikefest," the first ever Spikeball tournament in Grayslake. 43 teams came from as far as Mammoth Lakes, CA and as local as Grayslake, IL to raise money for “Oasis for Orphans” and compete for prizes that included gift certificates, Spikeball sets, and lots of other sponsored items. The winning team was “Origin Oblivion” from Chicago, IL consisting of Matthew Bohnen and Joey Hafertepe. At the time, Origin Oblivion was ranked 121st in the country with 38 tournament points. They are part of Origin Roundnet, which has teams ranked 1st, 6th, and 7th in the nation. 2nd place was "Tetelestai" from Chicago, IL with Logan Cornelius and Jesse Throw. Third was "Bromigo Spikes" from Chicago, IL with Trent Weller and Zac Nabhan. Fourth place was “Origin Rezurrection” from Mt. Prospect, IL with Tony Gottuso and Ben Smith.

Blue Origin's New Glenn, launching for the first time from LC-36 at Cape Canaveral. New Glenn successfully launched at 2:03AM on January 16th, but its first stage wasn't able to stick the landing as intended on the drone ship out at sea.
The fast and rugged Spad XIII was among the most successful fighters of World War I, in a class with the legendary Fokker D.VII and Sopwith Camel. It was flown by some of the most famous air heroes of the war, such as Guynemer, Fonck, Nungesser, Lufbery, Luke, and Rickenbacker. The aircraft was particularly noted for its robust construction and its ability to dive at high speed, features that made it one of the best dog-fighting airplanes of the war.
The Spad XIII was produced and deployed in great numbers. By the end of 1918, the parent company and eight other French manufactures had built 8,472 of the sturdy fighters. Almost every French fighter squadron was equipped with them by the end of the war, as well as the American units that were part of the American Expeditionary Force. Spads were also used by the British, the Italians, the Belgians, and the Russians.

Pueblo Nuevo presents, ORIGIN, the first solo exhibit by Oree Original (aka Daniel Jimenez). This new series of paintings are intensely bright, kaleidoscope-like puzzles that evoke pre-Columbian iconography remixed with Oree's personal mythology of our universe. Triangles, circles, squares and lines are used to construct complicated hypnotic patterns which form larger entities. Different combinations of these basic shapes, coupled with the vibrating relationships of solid colors give Oree's creations a seemingly infinite life with endless possibilities of their origins.
Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Oree moved to the Bay Area to begin an internship with Pueblo Nuevo and continue building on a career as a self taught visual artist. Currently residing in Berkeley, Oree has gained quite a reputation on dance floors of nightclubs and house parties all over the Bay. Only being kicked out of a handful of venues, he continues to steal hearts with his impeccable flowing locks.

Anglican parish church, C12 origins, c1300, C15 with C18 west tower. Restored 1881. Rubble stone and ashlar with stone slate roofs and coped gables. Nave, north porch, chancel, south aisle, south porch and south west tower. Nave is rubble stone with Perpendicular 3-light 4-centred west window and north side plain C13 lancet, deep set C15 flat-headed 2-light, north porch, two Perpendicular 3-light 4-centred arched windows and large stepped north-east buttress. Porch has ashlar front with front buttresses each side, moulded pointed entry and reset small traceried pierced stone in apex. East side has stone pierced with two tiny cusped lancets. Chancel is heavily restored with chamfered eaves cornice and sill course. North side has C16 or C17 two-light with Tudor- arched heads and 3-light 4-centred arched Perpendicular window. East end angle buttresses and large 3-light plate traceried window, apparently entirely C19 with sexfoil and quatrefoils in head. South side has 2-light breaking eaves under coped gable, plate traceried with quatrefoil head, apparently C19 but a restoration of c1300 original, and low door in angle to south aisle. South aisle has fine C14 three-light east window with ogee traceried lights with sharp trefoil heads to outer lights and quatrefoil over centre. Diagonal angle buttresses, moulded sill course and moulded eaves course. Drainpipes dated 1881. EH Listing
Governor Kay Ivey participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for Blue Origin’s new Engine Production Facility Friday January 21, 2019 in Huntsville, Ala. In June 2017, Governor Ivey announced that Blue Origin selected Huntsville, Alabama for this new, state-of-the art, 200,000 square-foot production facility. •BE-4 and BE-U3 engines will be produced at this new facility.

Highland cattle are a Scottish cattle breed. They have long horns and long wavy coats that are coloured black, brindle, red, yellow, white, silver or dun, and they are raised primarily for their meat. Wikipedia

Did you know: Although a group of cattle is generally called a herd, a group of Highland cattle is known as a "fold".
The breed's history is quite complex! Herd books of the past recorded details of two different types of Highland cattle; however, it seems that decades of crossbreeding have faded the lines between the two, leaving only one official Highland cattle type.
Records also show that Highland is actually the oldest registered breed in the world, mostly due to the fact that their herd book predates all others.
The Highland breed is predominantly used for beef production, but can be milked on a small scale. Their milk has a high butterfat content, which some farmers may find appealing.
Interestingly, a group of Highland cattle is not called a herd, but a 'fold' instead.
Their coat is often the most discussed attribute of these cattle. When Highland cattle are mentioned, people often immediately think of their ginger-red coat. However, their colouring can vary between black, brindle, yellow and even white!
Their hair is always long, sometimes reaching about 13 inches, with a slight wave. Since their coat is double-layered, the outer hair is oiled to prevent rain seeping into their skin, while the downy undercoat provides warmth during the rough and rainy Scottish winters.
Highland cattle aren't very large, with bulls weighing about 800kg and cows reaching around 500kg.
Their hair, although an advantage in their native Scotland, can be troublesome for Highland cattle bred in other countries. Warmer climates can be stressful for the cattle, since their heavy coat will cause overheating.
They have long and distinctive horns, which actually help them forage for food during during snowy winters! They can use their horns as a way to dig deep into pastures that have been covered with snow. Although this is a benefit to the cattle, some farmers may find horns to be troublesome, especially if the cattle are kept in close proximity to other animals.
They have great longevity! This reduces herd replacement costs, since they're known to live for about 20 years; a considerably longer lifespan than other beef breeds. The average number of calves per cow is 12, and some cows can still calve into their eighteenth year!
Highland cattle are usually able to mate at about 18 months of age, and pregnancy in Highland cows usually lasts up to 290 days. They can often calve unassisted, cutting down on veterinary costs during the birth process. This is because calves usually have slim bodies that move easily through the large Highland dam's pelvis. Calves usually weigh no more than 30kg at birth.
Cows also have quite small teats with well-formed udders, and this combined with their milk's high butterfat content ensures that calves are sufficiently nourished from an early age.
Highland cattle health is quite good! Their short legs ensure that problems are also kept to a minimum, and their long fringes protect their eyes and facial area.
These cattle are quite docile, but can be protective if their young are threatened. For this reason, it’s always important to take extra care around all cows and particularly bulls, regardless of breed! Take a look at our article on Bull Safety to remind yourself of the dangers.
