In 2014 Switzerland and Japan celebrate the 150th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations. There is an interesting exhibition of Japanese culture at the museum of history, St. Gall (Historisches und Völkerkundemuseum, St. Gallen).

In Peter Keller's just rombi origami tessellation tutorial this is a step, where I like the shape of the half shaped rhombi too ;-)) It reminded me of a flower, so I folded until here and made an edge with the paper (white glassine) that was left over.
Also the backsite of the Origami Flower 1 has an interesting form. So I turned the paper and an other flower appears.

This is one of my recent models from my 365-day origami challenge on Instagram.

Folded from a single square. My first model with sunglasses.
(7 sided as my favorite number is 7).
Designed as a computer crease pattern - printed then folded.
Diagrams for my Ribbon Kitty model will appear in the 22nd Tanteidan convention book!
I am also honored to be one of the Yoshino Issei Fund special guests this year. I will be teaching 2 of my models at the Tanteidan convention next month (Aug 12-14, 2016) in Tokyo:

I love to compare the different approaches on the same subject, so I'm choosing the simplest and the most detailed rhino I could find. For me is almost magical to think that origami can be such different things.

Single square sheet of duo Kami. Started with an approximately 21 cm (edge length) square and the final model is 11 cm long and has a wingspan too is 11 cm.
My first dragon. I'm quite happy with the results :)

A Greek meander pattern folded as modular origami. The bent frame technique is the “Thoki Yenn style” which I also employed in a number of other models.
Each of the five full loops of the curve is a single unit, folded from a 1:5 rectangle, so that the whole model can be made from five pieces cut from a single square. Of course, it is possible to add as many units as required to make a longer model.
In theory, one could fold the whole thing (or even arbitrarily many turns of the curve) from a single long strip of paper, but such long strips are not very practical to fold with. For those who do not like even 1:5 ratio paper, it is possible to make each segment a separate unit, thus exchanging the ease of folding for much more measuring and cutting.
You can not print on your card that you fold paper, and leave the card flat.
It may be difficult to produce, but hey, I have made a 128 grid once...

Coaster made from 4 slightly modified Woven Slit Modules (WSM) folded from square paper. The two sides of the coaster display different patterns. Six coasters can be connected to form a coaster cube.
