Origami Kusudama (Maria Sinayskaya)
A rectangles, 30 units, no glue
Close to something I folded before, but with a different folding sequence.
A tessellation derived from my other model, Woven Rhombi. 4×4 grid units per molecule, or 8×8 if you want to consider a complete hexagonal tile a molecule.
Flow Tessellation is iso-area: when you look at the back side, you see exactly the same pattern, rotated 90 degrees. Due to the arrangement of paper layers, I had to resolve to wet folding to make the model flat and to prevent the layers from unfolding.
This was the first time I folded Biotope paper and I admit I liked it very much. It is thinner than Tant which makes it better suited for models with many layers or a complex layer arrangement like this one. At the same time the paper felt strong enough even for models with lots of precreasing. To the feel, it is softer than many paper I use, but still not too soft as are many handmade papers which look beautiful but are hard to make precise geometric folds with. It’s probably too thin for corrugations, but for most tessellations I think it will behave just as well as it did for this one.
Traditional origami butterfly, but folded cleanly so that no unnecessary creases are visible.

折紙作品(不切正方形1枚折り)
Improved from previous one with petiole. Designed and fold by Xudong from one piece of square paper.
Same as those on previous picture but having more repetitions of the same pattern... Not as effective as flower tower, as here next level is less than half, thus it's eating more paper. Folded from 30 cm of kami. The last level I opted not to try to finish it completely as it wasn't enough precise for that. The finish on the center is the same as on violet doodle... :)

Modular Origami Stars (Maria Sinayskaya)
The bigger stars are folded from double bronze rectangles (2:sqrt3) and the smaller one from bronze (1:sqrt3). Similar designs to the previous ones, with more interesting reverse sides.

I have to say, it's a great idea to keep the number of colors per pack limited to just 5 or 6. This way you have a nice palette with colors that work together and you have enough sheets of each color per pack. Ideal for modular origami!

Last night I was lamenting to my wife Sammy that, for the first time in at least a year, I was going to miss posting an image to Macro Mondays because the topic was Hearts, and I hadn't been able to come up with any macro heart images that I felt were Flickr worthy. So, she stepped out of the room, returned a few seconds later with these origami hearts that a neighbor had left on our front door and asked if these would work. At first I thought no because there was no way I could make a macro out of them, but then I figured, what the heck, they're pretty small, and I could make at least a close-up out of them, thereby keeping my perfect attendance record in tact...

60° Origami Modular (Maria Sinayskaya)
squares, 12, 10, 4 units, no glue
All three units are of slightly different sizes.
Origami (折り紙?, from ori meaning "folding", and kami meaning "paper" (kami changes to gami due to rendaku) is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century AD at the latest and was popularized outside of Japan in the mid-1900s. It has since then evolved into a modern art form. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques, and as such the use of cuts or glue are not considered to be origami. Paper cutting and gluing is usually considered kirigami.

Modular Origami Stars (Maria Sinayskaya)
squares, 6 units, no glue
Out of these three stars one features just a single pattern (star), another shows two (star+star) and the third combines 3 patterns (star+pinwheel+wreath).
Other stars with a single pattern (pinwheel, wreath):

Other stars with two elements combined (star+wreath, star+pinwheel, pinwheel+wreath):

There are some other combinations and with big enough squares one can go even deeper, adding more elements on top.

Folded from a single rectangle. I've colored the model using acrylic, creating a vivid aged metal feel - allowing for more depth and aliveness.
I´m in the middle of a metal texture/patina style phase.

There's something about the textures I can't put my finger on but I just love the feeling of it!
