Everything is good.
It's a shame that they now close at 10PM. The late-night Chinese grub-runs are over. In the end, it will not stop us from dining here earlier in the evening. The order.

Brocken Spectra (aka mountain spectra)! My first time seeing this optical phenomenon was on a recent sunrise hike. In the center of the circles is my shadow cast on the clouds by the sun behind me. My head is surrounded by a halo of “rings of glory”. A glory resembles a saint’s halo (not particularly fitting for a metalhead like me…) and is believed to be caused by light tunneling through air inside miniscule water droplets and then being emitted backwards due to resonance effects. In order to see this the clouds actually have to be below you because the center of glory is antisolar . So a 10^4 mountain is a pretty good spot to experience some cool optics.
The longer I observe the world around me, the more certain I become that nothing happens by chance.
The universe is perfect.
Everything has a reason to be... all is as it should be. As it should have always been.
There is no chaos. Never was.
It's only order... disguised.

"It’s strange that all birds don’t fly in the same way. After all, the air’s just the same at the same place and the same time. I’ve heard that the wings of aeroplanes all conform to the same formula, whereas birds each conform to a formula of their own. It has undeniably required more than a little ingenuity to equip so many birds each with their own formula, and no expense spared, either. Nevertheless, there has perhaps never been a bird that flies as correctly as an aeroplane; yet all birds fly better than aeroplanes if they can fly at all. All birds are perhaps a little wrong, because an absolute once-for-all formula for a bird has never been found, just as all novels are bad because the correct formula for a novel has never been found."

I left my first dedicated railfan trip to Victoria a year too late. The 25 N class locos were introduced from late 1985, and N473 was less than a year old when I photographed it on the 0745hrs Ballarat to Melbourne passenger ascending Warrenheip Bank - 4 December 1987..
A year earlier it would more than likely have been an exotic 'bulldog' of the S, B or A class variety and probably a motley collection of rolling stock to boot.
Upper East Side, Central Park - Jun 2008 - 085
These pictures were taken on two successive days when I had doctor appointments on the Upper East Side of NYC, and had the chance to walk along Fifth Avenue, and then through Central Park in order to return to my apartment on the Upper West Side, at Broadway & 96th
I had spotted this woman jogging in Central Park a little earlier -- how could you not notice someone in a bright pink top and pink hat? She had been running south, while I was walking north, and she went by too quickly for me to get a picture.
But about ten minutes later, as I was approaching Columbus Avenue and 96th Street, she jogged past me again ... she had to stop at Columbus Avenue, because of the traffic, so she was actually jogging in place when I took this picture...
Note: on Sep 26, 2012, I replaced the original version of this photo with a slightly edited one. All I did was some relatively minor adjusting of "hot spots" and "cold spots" -- but unfortunately, I was unable to remove all the monochromatic blackness in the woman's tights Unfortunately, the original photo was shot as a JPG image, before I learned about the benefits of shooting in RAW and making more subtle adjustments with my Aperture photo-editing program...

in the last several months I've been seeking inspiration in other various forms of art such as performance art, fashion and costume design, and dance to name a few. my friend Ken suggested I write down this name: Pina Bausch. You should too. I found a copy of the film Pina by Wim Wenders at the library and was amazed at what I saw. an incredible blend of theater and modern dance. I was inspired to create this image based on one of the pieces from the film where many chairs were being stacked and also crawled through at the same time. I was very taken by the form of everything and that at any moment the chairs could come tumbling down...
Dance, dance... otherwise we are lost.

The brand new DRS Class 88 locos have only very recently taken over this service from pairs of Class 66s/68s. Please also note that this picture was taken using a pole.
