New York Army National Guard Soldiers and their guests attend the annual Order of St. Barbara Dinner held by the 1st Battalion, 258th Field Artillery in New York, N.Y. on Dec. 7, 2018. At the annual dinner the battalion recognizes outstanding artillery Soldiers by presenting them with the Order of St. Barbara. St. Barbara is the traditonal patron saint of artillerymen. One guest at this year's dinner was World War II veteran Charles Brown who fought with the 258th Field Artillery in German in 1944 and 1945. Brown was presented with a modern day Soldiers uniform and also presented with the award. ( Division of Military and Naval Affairs photos by New York Guard Captain Mark Getman)

Beijing National Stadium

Beijing National Stadium, also known officially as the National Stadium, or colloquially as the Bird's Nest, is a stadium in Beijing, China. The stadium was designed for use throughout the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.

Located in the Olympic Green, the stadium cost US$423 million. The design was awarded to a submission from the Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron in April 2003 after a bidding process that included 13 final submissions. The design, which originated from the study of Chinese ceramics, implemented steel beams in order to hide supports for the retractable roof; giving the stadium the appearance of a "Bird's nest". Leading Chinese artist Ai Weiwei was the artistic consultant on the project. The retractable roof was later removed from the design after inspiring the stadium's most recognizable aspect. Ground was broken in 24 December 2003 and the stadium officially opened in 28 June 2008. A shopping mall and a hotel are planned to be constructed to increase use of the stadium, which has had trouble attracting events, football and otherwise, after the Olympics.

A useful sign for those that maybe hadn't realised that a large plywood board screwed over the screen, keyboard and card slot of this ATM machine meant it was out of order.

"Sorry Out of Order" it states, no kidding!

Nothing spectacular, just a sign of life really after a wee break.

This is the only ruin in Ireland accredited as belonging to the Third Order of Saint Dominic.

The Third Orders were lay-people and not clergy. This community of lay-men is in Kilcorban and is (in some way) a spin-off of Athenry and/or Portumna abbeys.

The history is largely undocumented - what are best known are the two statues from this chapel that are on view in the diocesan museum in Loughrea. The Kilcorban Madonna is the better known.

When visiting I found a wooden carving thrown in the ditch behind the chapel. It was clearly a human form and looked quite weathered.

I wrapped it and brought it to the Galway Museum. It turned out to be a pageant prop from the 1980s. It is now back in the corner of the chapel next to the ditch where I found it!

We are at King's Hall, Stoke On Trent for to see Gordon Hendricks. He is the world reigning Elvis impersonator/tribute artist - something he does rather well. This show was to have been in December 2020... then April 2021 and now, finally, in December 2021.

This is a full Elvis experience with a top performer, backing vocalists, guitars, keyboard player and wind instruments.

Despite us both being triple jabbed, there is still some slight nervous anticipation over the whole COVID thing.

I handmade these cufflinks including the chain for my friend Fernando. He has a couple of weddings coming up this summer and wanted them hadmade.

On April 17, 2015, a celebration was held during Carnival Weekend to honor members of Carnegie Mellon University's Order of the May, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate an extraordinary degree of loyalty by giving to CMU each fiscal year. Named for Albert C. May (E'21, '22), who founded the Annual Fund at Carnegie Tech in 1947 and contributed to it every year until he passed away in 1998, this special order honors those who embody all the best characteristics for which Mr. May is remembered. Those who achieve two, five, 10, 15 and 20 years of consecutive giving receive personal recognition from the university. Individuals who achieve 25+ years of consecutive giving are inducted as lifetime members into the Order of the May. For more information, visit www.giving.cmu.edu/ootm.

I'm on a Geography field trip for three days, will miss you guys!

I thought a fun photo was in order on this Monday. This is a set of photos taken at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands of a snowy egret who I was photographing while she was busy fishing. All of a sudden she stopped fishing, got herself all fluffed up and gave herself a really good shake. I thought this photo was funny and so cute. She is almost unrecognizable, except for those yellow feet!

Happy Monday everyone!
