I'd never given much thought or many looks at Iris through the years. But I've really fallen in love with the 3 down by the pond in back of our place. I've learned that they were planted by the lady who used to live in our cottage a decade ago. She still lives here. I can't wait to show her the pictures of "our flowers". I have been watering them faithfully.
They are really beautiful flowers, aren't they!? This one went from a small tight bullet-shaped bud to full flower since this morning.

Today, 6 August 2015, saw the fifth Emergency Services Open Day at the intu Trafford Centre.
The event saw members of Greater Manchester Police, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service , North West Ambulance Service and a host of other agencies and groups meet the public.
Despite less than perfect weather, thousands of people turned out to see a host of equipment and displays as well as taking the opportunity to meet the people who help keep them safe and secure.
The Force’s Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy was on hand to help open the event and meet the public.

M21 is a small, quaint Open Cluster less than a degree from the Trifid Nebula. To me it appears like a double-star that has a short line of bright stars trailing behind and a faint circle of stars above. This cluster seems to have many hidden members that produce the faint glow behind the 50 or so stars that make themselves visible in the telescope. Although this cluster is obvious and distinct from the background stars around it, the little collection of stars just cannot compete with the nearby Trifid Nebula for shear splendor and thus often only gets a casual glance by amateur astronomers.
