In late August 2024 an invite-only open day was held at Xelabus of Eastleigh to mark the opening of their new maintenance facility in Barton Park. The new facility was officially opened by Fred Dinenage of TV fame (ITV Southern and How!) and were treated to a building tour and shown examples of their fleet, some of which were brand new.

What we have known is life, broken.

What we have seen is a red flower open its face and die.

Here is a closer look at the front. Sadly the flash from my camera, left a bit of a odd glare. Used PS CS5, to add some lighting effects.

You can see the wheels, are no longer attached at the front with a technic axle to the chassis. They are now connected at the rear of the fender.

This early model Trident began life with Stagecoach London but has swapped the smoke for the clean, fresh air of the Lake District. This seasonal service runs daily into early November!

Early in December we went to the Industrial Center Building (ICB) in Sausalito for their Artist Open Studio Event, where you can visit the studios of about 50 artists, viewing their creative spaces and refined artwork. From sculpture to watercolors, oils to photography, the whole while rapping with the artists themselves. It was a festival for my eyes and my intellectual curiosity. The following series is from that day.

Something to remember HK by....I have been here so many times but never tried shooting the place...I mean really shoot it the way I wanted. Borrowing my partner's terminology for a full frame camera with a 15mm fisheye (thanks to Raymond Cruz for the lens), I tried to bend matter and light.

The distortion is to taste and i love it.

My crocuses in my front yard were finally open!

This is a close-up of the doorknob on the front door of the old building near Kinards, SC. I can't seem to get enough of rust and texture.

If there's one event you must always consider going to then it has to be the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust's Annual Open Weekend in October. It's an extremely well run and family friendly event with around 180 vehicles to see and enjoy. There are two frequent bus routes to sample the buses plus six themed tours involving up to five vehicles on each. The event is very popular with enthusiasts from far and wide attracting many, like myself, from the south of England!

Anyway, here's a selection of my photos from the weekend, including a few I snapped on the Friday before the event. Well done team GVVT, your sterling efforts are appreciated by many!

Bardo Thodol

The Bardo Thödol [Tibetan Book of the Dead] began by being a closed book, and so it has remained, no matter what kind of commentaries may be written upon it. For it is a book that will only open itself to spiritual understanding, and this is a capacity which no man is born with, but which he can only acquire through special training and special experience. It is good that such to all intents and purposes useless books exist. They are meant for those queer folk who no longer set much store by the uses, aims, and meaning of present-day civilisation.

The BNSF, on Route 66. The Mother Road, or the bits between Ludlow and Needles, to the east, had been closed due to a lot of the bridges having been damaged by surging water. As such, it was a fifty fifty, situation whether to drive it or not. The road it turns out was actually open up to Amboy, where we left it to join the interstate once more.

A BNSF, stack train shatters the silence of an empty national treasure.

It's the twilight zone, the time between the sun disappearing and nighttime proper.
