Winner’s Speech:
Please give me a scale
to measure the insignificance and
solitude of the journey in Iceland...
Retreating from the world of complication to
the land of boundless gray tone,
colors and lines evolved into a state of simplicity as original as Genesis.
No lenses would be wide enough to accommodate the sublimity before my eyes.
The interplay of light and shadow cast floating mystery seducing all passers-by.
They’re always enlightened to capture the sharp contrast beyond their eyes and minds.
Civilization just drew a line of fear at the edge of primitive nature.
“Being the one and only” is the common theme when walking the line between ice and fire:
The only car on the road,
passing through the only gas station;
the only farm house spotted at distant afar,
paying tribute to the only cyclist pressing on silently in rain...
The road carried on and stretched into the endless one and only,
waiting for another turn.
I entitled the series of photos under the theme “ONE”, hoping to use as little words as possible
in order to leave rooms for different interpretation from the viewers’ mindscape. I’m sure the essence I captured
will be shared in your own stories.

At, birth, grey seal pups weigh about 13 kg. One wouldn't just tuck one under the arm. A bond is formed between mother and pup at birth, the mothers recognising her pup from its call and smell.
For the first three weeks of their lives, pups rarely swim, suckling from their mothers 5 to 6 times a day, for up to 10 minutes at a time. The milk is rich in fat and the pups rapidly put on weight.

I think there was a hunter with his dog in the distance to the right. Then just at the end it became aware of myself and Jamie approaching from the left to check the camera.
One of my prized UFOs. The pointy block is called Toad In The Puddle. This thing is about 60 inches square. It would be bed-sized but I ran out of the navy blue fabric, and I didn't want to compromise my artistic integrity by substituting. I'm serious!
Check out my disgusted dog ...

One of my new designs for American Girl. Lined, lots of details.....takes so much time to make one; not so fun to make 20.
On Our Way to Fourfouras Village, Crete, We meet some extraordinary sceneries! Many goats and sheeps are crossing the road freely. We meet them every day so i have to tribute them with a separate set of photos!
Spanish officers surrounded by the debris of a bombed or shelled building. According to the original caption they are in a village that has been ruined by the Germans. It is impossible to tell from this photograph that they are in fact standing in a village, since no recognisable structures are left standing.
Scenes such as this were commonly used as propaganda, intended to reaffirm resolve against the enemy.
[Original reads: 'Spanish Officers in one of the many villages wrecked by the Germans.']
This beautifully designed and tended small garden was another unexpected discovery from our week along the coast of Maine. I arrived just as the sun was coming up and one of the gardeners was raking patterns in the gravel path, Japanese style, and had the place to myself for an hour. I was able to return at dusk as the sun was going down over Eliot Mountain after one of those perfect early August days.
From the Official Website:
"The Thuya Garden and surrounding land is a wonderful blend of semi-formal English border beds and indigenous eastern Maine woodlands situated on a granite hillside overlooking Northeast Harbor.
Visitors by sea can tie up at Asticou Terraces Landing and walk up the 1/4–mile Asticou Terrace Trail to the garden and lodge, passing the Joseph H. Curtis Memorial and enjoying the views from several lookouts along the way. Parking is available at the landing and at the top of Thuya Drive.
The construction of Thuya Lodge began in 1912 and was completed in 1916 by Joseph H. Curtis who summered there until his death in 1928. Thuya Garden was created by Charles K. Savage beginning in 1956 through 1961 on the land that was formerly Mr. Curtis’ orchard.
The garden's herbaceous borders are a pleasing mixture of colorful annuals and perennials defining the two sides of an expanse of grass lawns leading to the upper pavilion at the northern end and a shallow reflecting pool at the southern end.
The Entrance Gates were designed by Charles K. Savage and hand-carved in cedar by Mr. Savage and Augustus D. Phillips. Many of the Soderholtz vessels were originally part of Beatrix Farrand's collection at Reef Point in Bar Harbor."
