"Hawes is a small market town and civil parish in Upper Wensleydale in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire, England, that was granted its market charter in 1699. Historically in the North Riding of Yorkshire, Hawes is located at the head of Wensleydale in the Yorkshire Dales; the River Ure runs to the north of the town and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is known as the home to the Yorkshire Wensleydale Cheese.
The population in 2011 was 887; the estimated population in 2016 was 893. The parish of Hawes also includes the neighbouring hamlet of Gayle. The population of the full parish was 1,137 in 2011 and was estimated at 1,138 in 2016. Hawes is 31.2 miles (50.2 km) west of the county town of Northallerton. The Wensleydale Creamery is a major producer of Yorkshire Wensleydale cheese.
Described by Reader's Digest as The Village That Refused to Die, Hawes has a very active non-profit community group that seeks funding and uses the money to re-open keep community amenities that were closing.
Wensleydale is the dale or upper valley of the River Ure on the east side of the Pennines, one of the Yorkshire Dales in North Yorkshire, England.
Wensleydale is one of only a few Yorkshire Dales not currently named after its principal river, but the older name, Yoredale, can still be seen on some maps and as the Yoredale Series of geological strata. The dale takes its name from the village of Wensley, once the market town for the dale. Wensley derives from Woden's ley, or meadow of the pagan god Woden.
The valley is famous for its cheese, with the main commercial production at Hawes. Most of the dale is within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Part of lower Wensleydale, below East Witton, is within the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Just an absolutely awesome cloud show on Seneca Lake in the Finger Lakes. One funny thing is that the locals here take the clouds for granted. They think it's just normal. I've lived in a lot of places, and I've seldom seen shows in the sky as spectacular as God puts on here. This day—Sunday, November 6th, with a steady breeze and ominously balmy temperatures—was an absolute standout. Really, people who were born here should appreciate it every day. They don't know what they have.

This particular image was generated with the help of the FaceApp application, where I took a photo of a close-up of the "1992-August pic3" pic I've posted here. Then I just applied a filter in FA in part to help with the graininess of this close-up - and to have some fun with the look... :-)
This De Havilland DH9 was restored to flying condition and is the only original First World War bomber flying in the world today. It took seventeen years to bring DH 9E-8894 to airworthy condition and the maiden flight of this unique aircraft took place in May 2019 at IWM Duxford.

There was no one in the station train, Darkness prevails the place because there was no light, maybe ONCF had no money to repair it, Anyway the atmosphere was cold and the silence reign the place. The train arrive after one hour of retard. One wagon brings many peoples who are going in the same road but every single one of them represent a story, a life, beliefs and idea, …
There is a lot of people who think we lives the same life, we have the same problems, or their problems are bigger than the rest … but no, it’s wrong if you think that! You know nothing about homeless, about rich people and I mean rich. You know nothing about people who are sick…
So don’t judge others or generalize.
and BE GRATHEFUL IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY, A FEW GOOD FRIENDS AND A ROOF OVER YOUR HEAD BECAUSE YOU HAVE EVERYTHING AND I DON’T KNOW IT UNTIL YOU LOSE IT.

This is Ottie the otter.
I bought Ottie for my mother quite a few years ago now when she was in hospital dying of heart failure.
If ever you find yourself in a similar situation with a friend or loved one I do recommend buying a small soft toy for them. Hospitals are such cold, unfeeling places that having such a comfort can be a great consolation for them even while you are not able to be there. Most hospitals will allow soft toys as long as they are not too large.
Now I know you probably think of me as a tough bloke (you know, a dark rugged mountain rippling with muscle and menace), but I must admit being very partial to soft toys. So much so, in fact, my wife has banned me from getting any more since the collection outgrew our bedroom. Most of the menagerie now lives in a laundry basket in my daughter’s room :)
(Isn’t it strange what we share on Flickr? Well, perhaps I should say isn't it strange what I share!)
Ottie now lives on top of a chest of drawers with Tubby, Fluffy, Tufty and Sleepy, a family of brown owls that started flying in shortly after we were married.
This was taken today especially for the Smile on Saturday group's hundredth theme (yey!) One Hundred Smiles . It’s a lovely group full of lovely people. Thank you Maria :)
