The change in colour is only just starting

Every time I turn my back I think something might be trying to sneak up on me....

Day 22 October Challenge

Beautiful weather, had a quick potter in the veg plot, taking down the nearly dead cucumber plant in between yoga and a hospital appointment (for anyone who's interested - good results, only very slow advancement, so no treatment and another check up in January - yay!!) These little cues have gone on and on and on, although a friend of mine who I gave some to compared their shape to bits of a man's anatomy - how rude!! Especially considering how tasty they are!

A walk around Bradgate today with a new group of people found on FB. The rutting season seems a bit delayed this year. The stag was nicely framed in the gateway for my shot today.

Athletic and not a natural retrieving dog... very impressive

Dawlish Warren was like a summer's day

Yarner wood on Dartmoor.

The beech tree leaves are staying stubbornly greeny/ yellow so I don't think I'm going to get the full autumnal glory this month.

Taken through my car windscreen, you might notice the HUD says that this is a 60mph limit road. Of course that's just the default national limit, nobody in their right mind would drive that fast down a narrow lane. However one of our holiday cottages guests this summer wrote a scathing review saying that "someone would be killed on the very dangerous narrow 60mph lane"....!

I have no words. I wish I was joking.

In a fake green house taken during a certain studio tour near Watford - took my nephews on an outing.

Some of Adrienne's succulent plants in the afternoon sun.

For Definitiely Dreaming Week 39 theme of "Leaves", also todays photo for the October Photo-a-Day challenge and including in my 100x project.

Shot with the Lensbaby Sweet 80.

This gorgeous little Rainbow Unicorn by Shem is in Balaclava.

October Photo-a-day Challenge, 22/31.

I have no idea what this plant is called, but at this time of year it produces tiny purple flowers & some leaves have purple marks. I cut these 2 small branches & used my lightpad to lay them on. Texture added in post.

My go-to autumnal red acer

Caversham footbridge reflected in the Thames in Reading. Had an oddyssey trying to take this shot, I think it may have been worth it.

The theme for week 43 is "Forest". I live in a forest, so you'd think that this challenge would be easy. Unfortunately I have been busy all week and now it has started raining. Hard.

Here's the 11th hour option which I think has come out quite well considering. I tried the same shot a few years ago, but I think this is better with more detail.

Halloween. I have set a rod for my own back in recent years trying to come up with a new suitable shot for the last of the October Challenge 31 pictures.

As it happens, my son got possessed last night (bloody children's sleep-overs!), so that made it a lot easier.

She won't go anywhere without them.

Europa não vai a nenhum lugar sem os seus brinquedos preferidos.

Just a stroll through the woods... what could go wrong....?

It's the weekend and folk were out enjoying a drink, boating and paddle boarding.

Loving an artists work is one thing, but when that art also drives you to celebrate and amplify the strong social justice messages that are always so eloquently expressed, then that shows the true power of street art.

No-one demonstrates this better than Amanda Newman.

This country disgraced itself in my view when it voted "No" to the referendum on granting constitutional recognition to our First Nations people, but as musician Barkaa said, and Amanda has represented here "It's Not Over Yet".

Rush hour at junction 11 of the M4, facing the A33 towards Basingstoke.

On our annual trip to the Emerald Isle we had enough time to revisit the Grianán of Aileach. I think my last photos have made it too popular as there was a busload of American tourists there!

Driving from Donegal to Belfast we reached Londonderry. Just above the town we found a treasure trove of photogenic fun.

Only just enought time to swap the lenses on the camera and take the shot as the light quality faded away

Got to Teignmouth beach just before dawn to test my newly rebuilt camera on the Queen Mary 2 in the early light. I forgot that Canon completely reset the settings so these could have been better shot in RAW, but not too bad. I took this long exposure with a 10 stop Zomei filter. I had several attempts since focusing in half light with no viewfinder is trying. I then walked along the beach and found some fellow photographers who had been there for a couple of hours.

Bit of fast moving cloud, an airliner and a starry autumn night.

The M4 in its glory near junction 11.

20 second exposure in a spot where "exposure" is not recommended! Very windy, so the tripod got moved a little

So this morning I was at Exmouth beach for sunrise

It was so nice to see the sun again after three days of excessive rain and cloud, so I took myself for a late walk for today's shot.

Somewhere in Harrow in the middle of the night.

Rain drops on the stem of sweet pea in the garden.

Well....a pint of Ashcombe Cider a day!

The Atlantic Coast is one of my best spots for a seascape. This shot might get replaced with a proper camera photograph, but here's a phone version for now

Just one other photographer in the shot to contend with!

The Kennet-Avon Canal near Reading - tranquility ...

Not much time today so a quick tabletop shot of three items I picked up on a walk a couple of days ago. A walnut, an acorn and a pheasant feather.

Took my nephews on a very looong walk around London today and came across this.

Back alley door in Pacific Beach. I found this subject interesting because of the single vent slat that was off-horizontal.

The lilac bush is turning a lovely colour right now and the birds use it as their hiding place when they've retrieved food from the feeder. I knew if I waited I might catch one, which I did from the relative comfort of indoors, as it's been raining a lot today.

I've done the October picture a day challenge for quite a few years and for a lot of those years I did a photo on the 4th of my cats as it was their birthday and also the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Alas, my cats are no longer with me but my attention did naturally turn to cats. I'm also due to do a photo for my 125 Pictures in 2025 challenge for ceramics, so I've combined both challenges today.
