The regional consultation on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Regional Plan of Action on the Elimination of Violence against Women (RPA EVAW) was convened in Bangkok, Thailand, from 1 to 4 December 2025. The meeting gathered representatives from ASEAN Member States, Sectoral Bodies, the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC), the ASEAN Secretariat and technical partners to take forward the development of the next RPA EVAW 2026–2035.

The consultation built on national consultations held earlier in seven Member States, as well as two thematic ASEAN processes: the consultation on disability inclusion in violence against women and girls’ policies and programmes, and the consultation on the forthcoming Common Chapter on the intersections between violence against women and violence against children.

The meeting was hosted by ASEAN, with support from Thailand’s Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, ACWC Thailand, the Chulalongkorn University Institute of Asian Studies and the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives.

The consultation was supported by UN Women and the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) through the UN Joint Programme on Gender-based Violence Prevention in Southeast Asia, funded by Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and by UN Women through the PROTECT Project, funded by the European Union. Additional support was provided by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

My third visit of the year to the Peony Gardens at the Nichols Arb. Been such a strange Spring in Ann Arbor - very cold for a long time and then we jumped into what feels like summer weather. Lovely day in Ann Arbor. The blooms are almost in peak bloom. Taken on Monday June 4th, 2018.

Pictures from the Grandeur Crew Flag Parade of Nations on the Grandeur of the Seas on Friday February 22nd, 2019 (our last full day of the cruise). I have not seen one of these before, but it was really great. It took place in the Centrum at 7:45pm on the last night of our cruise. Taken on board the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas for a 9 Night Southeast Coast & Bahamas Cruise (February 14th through the 23rd, 2019). The itinerary include stops in Charleston (SC), Port Canaveral (FL), Freeport (Grand Bahama Island), Nassau (Bahamas) and Miami (FL) before heading back to Baltimore.

This manuscript was illuminated by a circle of at least five highly organized manuscript painters active in the Flemish cities of Ghent and Bruges. The principal illuminator was Alexander Bening, who painted the majority of the book's miniatures. Manuscripts produced by this circle of artists are renowned for the decoration of their borders, which typically feature a rich variety of realistically-painted flowers, birds, and butterflies.

This prayer book, called a book of hours, was intended not for a cleric, but for the private devotions of a lay person-in this case, Isabella the Catholic, Queen of Spain (1451-1504). Isabella's coat of arms embellishes the book's frontispiece. It is unlikely that the book was commissioned by the Queen herself; rather, she probably received it as a diplomatic gift from someone courting her patronage, perhaps Cardinal Francisco Jimenez de Cisneros. A Franciscan friar, Jimenez was dependent upon Isabella for his advancement, first to the post of Queen's confessor in 1492, and then to Archbishop of Toledo in 1495.

On this cold but sunny winter's day in Ann Arbor, I went out to see lots of squirrels in the Diag and Law Quad. Got some very good yawns in my travels. Glad I needed to head over to a meeting across campus today - got a great yawner! Pictures taken on Monday February 5th, 2018.

One of my favorite things to do on a cruise ship is to get up early and capture the sunrise from the ship. These were taken on Tuesday November 8th, 2022, our second morning at sea as we were racing to pass Hurricane Nicole on our way to Hispaniola. Rainy morning on the ship, so I took most pictures on the Promenade Deck. On board the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas for the Seven Night Labadee & Puerto Plata Cruise. The cruise embarks from Cape Liberty (Bayone, NJ) with stops at Labadee, Haiti and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic before heading back to New York City. The itinerary changed after Hurricane Nicole canceled our planned stops.
