This is the cosy little holiday cottage we rented...Number 7, Wye Rapids Cottage, Symonds Yat West, Monmouthshire.
Perfectly located overlooking the Wye. Just opposite the well known Saracens Head where the Rope Ferry is. From the door we could walk straight onto the river trails and walk and walk and walk. The cottage is pet friendly with a courtyard at the back and wood burning stove...a home from home...but tidier!

De Chambeau Ranch, Mono County, CA
The De Chambeau Ranch is one of a number of ranches that served the numerous mining communities around Mono Lake from the late 19th century into the early decades of the 20th century. When most of the ore had been recovered and the miners had moved on, the ranches slowly withered.
De Chambeau Ranch is located near Mono Lake's north shore within the Mono Basin National Forest Scenic Area, and represents Mono Basin's ranching lifestyle at the height of Mining activities at the nearby towns of Aurora, Bodie, and Lundy. Buildings at De Chambeau include a ranch house, large barn, blacksmith shop, and garage as well as livestock facilities and a water system.
The ranch was established north of Black Point in 1906. First called Comasco Ranch, then Dondero Ranch when Nicholas Dondero owned De Chambeau Ranch before the De Chambeau's. He sold it so that he could move to Alaska.
Louis De Chambeau had first moved down from Bodie onto property near the Sylvester ranch, there relocated to De Chambeau Ranch to raise cattle, sheep, and chickens and grow alfalfa and vegetable crops.
The ranch has been the focus of an intense stabilization and partial restoration effort by the Inyo National Forest in consultation with the State Architect's Office and the California Office of Historic Preservation.

In 2014, Norm De Chambeau gave a talk that fascinated the visitors at DeChambeau Ranch during the historical society's annual Ghosts of the Sagebrush Tour. Norm passed away in May 2016.
Norm De Chambeau's ancestors homesteaded in the Mono Basin in the 19th century at this ranch and others. After retiring Norm De Chambeau returned to live in the Mono Basin where he had spent part of his childhood.
I'm a bit ambivalent about this one, to tell the truth. The porch steps are under there … somewhere.
Though it does have the benefit of actually opening, unlike the patio door on the other side.
