When I was growing up we kept cattle on the family land in East Texas. We never had more than 20 or so. Mainly cows, their calves, and one bull. I named all of the cows with girly names but never gave the bull a proper name. His ear was tagged with a '15' so we just called him "Ol' number 15". This must be his long lost niece...
197? Yamaha Enticer. This beautiful piece is in my brother's front yard. Couldn't get it to run. Last weekend we moved it to this spot and now it is froze to the ground and won't start. Dang it, I wanted to jump this sweet pile of juiciness!!

Wellsford homicide: Friends pay tribute to Zane Smith as hunt for his killer continues

An Auckland man who was shot dead in his car in Wellsford, north Auckland, has been named by friends as Zane Smith.
Hayley Mcliver knew Smith, 37, for a number of years and described him as an “amazing person” who was an incredibly loyal friend.
“It didn’t matter what a person had done, Zane would never once treat you differently. He had been a friend of my children’s father, but when our relationship ended he’d still stay in touch.
“He would always check in and see if I needed anything for the kids,” Mcliver said.
On Wednesday an unmarked, navy blue police van and about seven police staff could be seen on Wayby Station Rd at the intersection of McPherson Way.
A Stuff reporter at the scene said police appeared to be focusing their search on a nearby property, the intersection and surrounding bush.
They would not comment on the investigation.
A bunch of flowers has been laid at the foot of a wooden cross at the intersection.
In front of the cross were several orange spray-painted circles.
Police are continuing to hunt for Desmond Lawrence Bourne in relation to the incident.
Bourne, 45, has a court-issued warrant for his arrest and is wanted in relation to Smith’s death.
Beard said Bourne was considered dangerous and should not be approached.
The detective inspector said the victim and the offender were known to each other and the killing was not being treated as a random attack.
“Police want to reassure the public that we have a team of dedicated staff working tirelessly on this case and our priority is locating Desmond Bourne as quickly as possible.”
On Sunday, Beard said police would like anybody who knows or has seen a black Range Rover KBK990, or its occupants, in the Rodney or Northland area in the past few days to get in touch with the police.
On Wednesday morning, a police spokesperson said there was no comment to give on the situation and any new information would be released proactively.

A 45-year-old man charged with murder in connection to a fatal shooting in Wellsford has appeared in court.
Desmond Bourne was found by police on Thursday, unresponsive, at a central Auckland address following a search spanning six days.
On Friday morning, police confirmed Bourne had been charged with the murder of 37-year-old Zane Smith.
Bourne and 21-year-old Serene Tilsley were wanted after Smith was found dead in his car on Wayby Station Rd in Wellsford, north Auckland with a gunshot wound on Saturday.
Tilsley appeared in court on Thursday, charged with being an accessory after the fact to murder, and was granted bail.
Bourne appeared at the North Shore District Court before judge Clare Bennett on Friday, dressed in a dark blue boiler suit and with an emotionless expression on his face.
He was remanded in custody until his next hearing at the Auckland High Court on December 16.
Detective inspector Scott Beard said police would like to thank the community for their assistance and the public sightings that were reported of the alleged offender.
Beard said since Smith’s death, a team of detectives had been “working around the clock”.
“We are continuing to support Mr Smith’s family at this difficult time,” he said.
Smith and Bourne were believed to have known each other, Beard said, and the killing is not being treated as a random attack.
Smith has been remembered by friends as an “amazing person” who was an incredibly loyal friend.
Although Bourne and Tilsley had been charged, Beard said police are still appealing for sightings of a black Ford Falcon saloon with the registration CTS862, which has been linked to the incident and was seen in Pakuranga on Sunday morning.
Police also want to find the firearm that was used in the incident, believed to be a rifle.
Anybody who has information on the whereabouts of the two items is urged to contact the Waitematā crime squad on 09 839 0697.

Wellsford homicide: Man shot Zane Smith in his car but says it was self-defence

A man angry about an alleged debt fired five shots into a car, fatally hitting the driver, and his lawyers have defended his actions saying he was acting in self-defence.
On a Spring evening in November 2020, Zane Smith was sitting in a Range Rover on a quiet road just south of Wellsford.
Desmond Lawrence Bourne and Smith had sold drugs to each other in the past, but Bourne thought Smith owed him money so turned up to a remote road in Wellsford with a gun, the Crown say.
“Where the f... is my money,” a nearby resident heard before five gun shots were heard.
Bourne has pleaded not guilty to murdering Smith and wounding another man, Scott Fowles. Bourne’s girlfriend Serene Tilsely has pleaded not guilty to being an accessory after the fact.
On Monday, prosecutor Danielle Houghton opened the Crown case to the jury at the High Court at Auckland.
“Someone who fires five bullets into the driver’s side of a vehicle means to kill the person,” Houghton said.
Houghton told the jury that Bourne and Fowles had driven together in a Range Rover to the intersection near Wayby Station Rd.
Fowles hopped out of the Range Rover and went to sit in the passenger side of Smith’s car.
This is when Bourne hopped out of the car and fired the gun.
Bourne then fled the scene and drove to his girlfriend’s home. Tilsley and Bourne hid the Range Rover at a remote property before they drove to Auckland and hid out at various homes of friends, Houghton said.
Tilsley spoke to a lawyer and handed herself in, but Bourne, who had consumed drugs over a number of days, had to be taken by ambulance to a hospital.
Houghton told the jury they would hear from a number of residents who heard the gunshots and tried to help save Smith before he was pronounced dead.
She told the jury Fowles would be giving evidence and while he wasn’t initially forthright about what happened that night and downplayed it, he would give key evidence as to what occurred.
Bourne’s lawyer Barbara Hunt told the jury her client didn’t intend to hurt or kill anyone that day.
Hunt told the jury, that night Bourne was drunk, high on drugs and fearful.
“There had been a campaign of terror waged against him by a person [name suppressed].”
Hunt told the jury Bourne was unconscious when he arrived at Wellsford road.
“He’d been driven to the scene. He was in intense pain and had been stabbed in the leg.”
He thought he was being threatened, and he was fighting for his life so grabbed a gun and fired warning shots, Hunt submitted.
“He bolted like a madman home to where he was safe.
“Desmond Bourne is not a murderer,” Hunt submitted.
Tilsley’s lawyer told the jury the critical issue for them would be at what point did his client learn Bourne had shot and killed someone.
Unlike the Crown case, Adam Holland submitted while Tilsley knew Bourne was in jeopardy, she didn’t learn about his involvement in a fatal shooting until days later.
Once she learnt this she immediately took steps to hand herself in and made arrangements for Bourne to surrender too, Holland said.
He asked the jury to consider Tilsely may have been “hopelessly naive” as a woman more than 20 years younger than Bourne.
The trial before Justice Timothy Brewer and a jury continues.

Zane Smith's fiancee continues to grieve as the man who killed him is jailed for murder

A woman whose fiance was shot dead on a quiet road north of Auckland, knew something was wrong that night when he didn’t come home.
Now she continues to grieve Zane Smith, her soul mate, the man she was meant to marry and have children with. All that was snatched away from her.
On a spring evening in November 2020, Zane Smith, 37, was sitting in a Range Rover on a quiet road just south of Wellsford.
Desmond Lawrence Bourne, 48, and Smith had sold drugs to each other in the past, but Bourne thought Smith owed him money, so turned up to a remote road in Wellsford with a gun. He fired five shots and killed Smith.
“You did that deliberately,” Justice Timothy Brewer said.
Earlier this year Bourne was found guilty of murdering Smith and also wounding his friend Scott Fowles.
On Tuesday Justice Brewer sentenced him to life imprisonment ordering him to serve at least 12 years’ behind bars.
There was an outburst by some family members as Bourne was led away.
Prosecutor Brett Tantrum read out Amanda Gibens, Smith’s fiancee’s victim impact statement, telling the court how he was a loyal, honest and a “major clown to make people laugh”.
“I have so many wonderful memories, but now he’s gone.”
Gibens said her future was stolen in a blink of an eye and the pain is crippling.
She spoke of how she’s decided she will never have children as she cannot have them with Smith.
Smith’s mother spoke of how he was her greatest love and purpose in life.
Despite Smith’s troubles with mood altering drugs, she said he never lost sight of the values he was raised with, but he did get over his dependency mostly by his own will.
“I will not allow a single precious memory of Zane to be tainted by such darkness.”
Another family member spoke of how she wonders whether Bourne understands the “utter anguish and grief” he’s caused.
“You’ve broken our hearts, but Desmond Bourne has not broken our souls,” she said.
Shane Tait said his client was devastated by the loss and grief he’s caused.
The Crown’s case centred on Bourne’s anger over a drug debt, but Tait said this was not the case, and he was paranoid because of his increased drug use.
Justice Brewer rejected this and said the evidence against Bourne was overwhelming, and he intended to fire the gun and kill Smith.
But Justice Brewer said it was because of the resentment.
He accepted Bourne’s substance abuse history.
“I agree if you had not been drinking and had no access to an illegal loaded firearm, the murder of Mr Smith would not have happened.”
At trial Fowles said he knew there was “bad blood” between Smith and Bourne over a bad batch of drugs, but thought it had blown over.
Fowles had been assured by Smith “it was all done and dusted and forgotten about”, but had doubts about Bourne.
Fowles drove Bourne’s Range Rover to Wayby Station Rd as Bourne had been drinking that day, but had “sharpened up quite a bit” by that time.
The pair parked up and Smith turned up shortly after. Fowles told Bourne he would jump in the car and do the deal.
Smith and Fowles chatted for a bit when all of a sudden he heard Bourne loudly yell: “Where’s my f...ing money?” And there was a gun pointing in the window at Smith.
”I tried to reach over and push the barrel away and so did Zane, and the shot was fired.”
As he was running down Wayby Station Rd towards SH1, he heard three or four other shots ring out.
