“DEMI-PAS”

20 minutes 2002

Projection-performance

Demi-Pas is a short film and is projected using a ‘reversed camera’ technique. A projector has been converted to house micro-mechanisms that produce animated images using a principle similar to that of cinematography. »Demi-Pas« thus finds its own narrative methods, its own action and images, like a kind of projected theater. Real objects and photographic material are transposed within the projector. Based on this experimental form of projection, the film narrates a tale that has anextremely simple storyline: one man’s daily routine. » Demi-Pas« is a short film that constructs an everyday reality, thus highlighting simultaneously both the simplicity and the complexity of this reality.

I love the fact my wallet is stuffed with coffee loyalty cards! (& 1 photo one too!)

I'm sure there's a project in this somewhere - this is a note to self, a reminder that when uni opens again, I want to re-take this properly, in the studio

(You'll all mock me when I tell you I always have my coffee decaff, too...)

Big.

Happy Soggy Friday, everyone! Don't be afraid to get your feet wet.

Description of day:

1.Empty contents of wardrobe onto floor

2.Put it all back in.

This took a total of 2 hours, believe it or not - I wish I had a before shot.

I'ma gunna print this out and stick it in my wardrobe so I have inspiration to fold my clothes before I put them away.

Dear child,

Please know that sometimes you cannot replace the things you've lost. Even if it is your most beloved possession; even if you held it with the utmost care, and looked after it with every ounce of energy you have. Even then, some things cannot be replaced. Some people cannot be put back how they were. The world just doesn't work like that.

My darling, never forget that sometimes good people lose things, but that does not make them into bad people.

And dear, precious child, understand as you grow older, that sometimes you will love as hard as you can—you will try so hard, you will give so much of you—and it will be to no avail. But never let that stop you loving with all you've got.

Dear child, learn from my mistakes.

Listen.

We all have busy lives. We just need to slow down sometimes and be thankful for what we have...

Note to Self... Don't fool yourself into thinking you can finish a paper mache project in 2 hours, because it'll actually take you at least 10 hours. You're better off making a poster.

if someone wants to be a part

of your life, they'll make an

effort to be in it.

{excuse my hand writing *hides*

Note to viewer:

the crop marks are mine and are a parody (read below) but feel free to add to them this one time only. ;-) I won't be undersold!

....

Time for a diatribe, something I rarely am given over to (those that know me will definitely attest to this), comparable to my as rare indulgence in self ports... Other rants may include public transportation, failure to merge into traffic correctly, and the importance of patience. I'll not discuss these here, but rather a topic that is, to me, the distillation of disrepect found in these thousands and thousands of virtual images. And to that end, this digitized, mailed to myself, blackberry mess of a shot seemed perfect and quite up to the task.

We all see our own framing, whether we are photographer or no, we frame out portions of an idea we'd rather not think about. This is true. Looking through a lens, there are a few trains of thought, but most photogs can be lumped into one of two categories or at least heavily leaning one way or another:

"I crop." or "I do not crop."

Really, I'm not sure it matters even an inkblot outside that person's credo or identity of self and their "work". I had a conversation with a good friend of mine, artist, photographer, the other night that led to this silly (and yet not) topic and we agreed whole-heartedly with one another on the matter.

You know where I'm going... many of you do. I come across so many amazing photos (and some not so amazing) here in the Flickr universe that have that lovely "listen to me first", white-lined, note smacked atop the image; many of them say something witty (I've left these) like "oooh love this", or "perfect detail"... I don't mind those so much... But you know the ones of which I speak to:

"Crop here?". Bollix.

What do you think?

If you're like me and you've cropped a photo at all, you've stared intently at a monitor or print and considered the matter at length, length being relative and not necessarily a measure of time. You've considered the possibilities and made a decision that was as much a part of the image's creation as anything else: your lens, your mood, your aperture, and your upbringing. One way or another, you drew a line in the light and called it "good". And then, along comes some yahoo who cries out "crop here". Bollix bollix.

Now there are times, however rare, that one might ask "hey - where do you think I should crop this and why?"... something to that effect. Those times are rare, few and far between in my experience, but they are the times that warrant the white-lined outside opinions floating above your flickr-shared vision. A solicited division and not the contrary.

So, in regard to any who may feel tempted to leave notes containing suggested crops, a simple request:

If they don't ask... please don't tell.

Here ends the rant. I Wandersoff back out of frame.

Note to Self... Images of historical figures look especially creepy at night

Or how to make yourself feel like a Tory MP in 30 seconds or less. Yup, I reckon I could run for Parliament now. Though I should stress that no oranges were involved in the making of this image...

For MSH's choke. Nuff said.

Textures by Florabella (champagne (cool) and pure milk) and a jaiel texture.

Happy Belt and Braces Choked Up Sunday. And no, I wasn't wearing braces. Whaddya think I am, crazy? Though the fact that my (very few) selfies seem to involve choking, drowning or being bricked up in a wall probably doesn't bear too much scrutiny... ;)

Hope this doesn't weird you all out.

When inserting yourself into the picture for some perspective, it's always a good idea to pay attention to what you look like from behind. In this case, I completely forgot about my hat, which I had turned around backwards so it wouldn't get in the way of the camera viewfinder.

#1. Note to all photographers: Do not use flash around mass transit. No exceptions, that was gaffetastic on my part and I was rightfully called out.

#2. Hope all the Sound Transit Central Link fans like my title.

not a bad deal for a subway fan.

Is it fair of me

To expect every moment

To belong to self?

I received a surprise in the mail today. Exactly what I needed, two days before I leave for Winnebago to do mission work for four days.

Cry, darling; but don't give up.

A day or two late...but...I was so moved by the contributions, I wanted to share in the gift...

Day 167 of my Photo-A-Day project.

(Original posting with descriptions and comments can be found here: www.deviantart.com/deviation/39338893/ )

On Thanksgiving Eve I found myself in a North Columbus Bar listening to the band American Dog [described on one website as "the wart on the ass of rock 'n' roll"] perform, among other things, "Sometimes You Eat The Pussy, Sometimes The Pussy Eats You".

Perhaps dragging my friend Rhonda to see Brokeback Mountain wasn't worth the tradeoff.
