Opposite Borgarnes on the eastern side of Borgarfjörður is Iceland's answer to Half Dome :-) Brekkufjall (409m).

Heading south through the Kaldidalur toward Þingvellir on the F550 - you come across the occasional water of Sandkluftavatn over which looms Ármannsfell (764m).
The lake clearly holds more water than in this pic - probably in Spring - but as the valley floor is solely ash and tephra, the water simply drains away. The ground is incredibly fragile - note how some self-absorbed heros have decided to drive on the surface.
The F550 rolls right through the frame - I took a photo from the other side of the hills at the left back in 2015 - pic in the comments below.

The silver lining of a mistake: shot in low resolution
I forgot to reset my camera to RAW leaving it in low-resolution setting!
Images have more noise than usual, especially in the shadows; so why not try the new-to-me NIK filters...

Taken exactly 90 deg. to the left of my previous post is another shot of the polished lava of Dritvíkurbarð, Snaefellsnes, Iceland. September 2017.
The beach - Djúpalónssandur - is comprised solely of black, basalt shingle that gets flung at the rocks in any kind of sea. This well worn lava bank has strong bands of orange rhyolite (probably) or native basalt with a very high iron content - just not sure either way.

I don't know why but it just reminds me of Lord of the Flies.
Two long exposures: one 62 seconds with a Lee Little Stopper ND filter which is the vast majority of the image including sky and water, the other 4 seconds without a filter mostly for rock detail, digitally blended in Photoshop using luminosity masks.

We had our daughter's dog, Charlie over for a visit this weekend. I'm always intrigued by the challenge of photographing such a fuzzy creature.
This image has been captured at the State Rose Garden, Newtown Park, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.
I have been to Toowoomba many many times to see the beautuful Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers and also the Japanese Gardens, but I did not know that this rose garden existed until recently. It is a must see in Toowoomba and I was told by the workers there, that the best time for the flowering roses is in October.

Bicheno, Tasmania from Whalers Lookout.

The town was named in honour of James Ebenezer Bicheno, the British Colonial Secretary for Van Diemen's Land from 1843 to 1851, with the name in use in 1851.
Waub's Harbour - where the boats are moored - is named after an Aboriginal woman Wauba Debar who was stolen from her tribe as a teenager to become a "sealer's woman".
Bicheno was the location for a number of shore-based bay whaling stations in the late 1830s and early 1840s.
The complex right in front is Bicheno Primary School - state-owned prime real estate :-)
