Stormy Lake Erie

Just a simple "bird in flight" image made during the gale-force storm that hit the Buffalo area a couple weeks ago. I did a mono & color version and like both well enough to publish. Cheers!

The Seattle waterfront and harbor are abuzz with activity on any given day. This series is just a small glimpse of all that "busyness".

I chose to use textures and emphasized color to capture the details...

This is one of my favorites because of all the windows. They look out at some of the loveliest views in any American city - the Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains...

The delicate fronds of this plant, and the purple of the thistles behind it, remind us that even the prickly things (including people) can have beauty.

Salzgitter-Ringelheim

Schloss Ringelheim

Working on an image for framing in our dining room. It has to be blue, can't be birds or critters, and it needs to be happy.

This is one of the options, using the same base image as I posted yesterday.

This little tree sits in a brutal location on the shores of Lake Ontario. It is continually battered by waves, and winter ice, but has survived.

It has lost a limb since I first started photographing it, but it remains a monument to tenacity.

Seagulls are constantly on the prowl for food. This fellow is checking me out as I approached... looking for dinner.

Friday night, a laser pointer and time to play.

Day 159-365

A vertical to include the boulders in the foreground that are a recent additon to the road around the lakes.

A single raw image with the highlight and shadow data recovered in cs6 camera raw and final editing done in color efex pro.

I've posted shots of these three trees at Bronte Harbour before taken during the changing seasons.

This is a quick shot taken with my phone camera and post processed in Lightroom and Google's Nik Collection.

The polished, tortured rock at Kerling, Dritvíkurbarð, Snaefellsnes, Iceland. September 2017.

The beach - Djúpalónssandur - is comprised solely of black, basalt shingle that gets flung at the rocks in any kind of sea. Both shingle and country rock are well rounded and polished.

Since posting I've been informed that the pebbles are known as the black lava pearls of Djúpalón and are protected by law and cannot be carried away!

A misty drizzly day. Perfect. The second frame from this position - slightly different framing and wave action.

I couldn't quite decide if this photo should be black and white or its original colors. At first I thought it would be perfect for b&w. And it actually looks very good in b&w. But I finally opted for color since the wall actually had this gritty texture and feel which does come across in this version.

Berrington Hall is a country house located about 3 miles north of Leominster, Herefordshire, England. During the 20th century it was the seat of the Cawley family. It is a neoclassical country house which was designed by Henry Holland in 1778-81 for Thomas Harley. The house has been in the care of the National Trust since 1957. Wikipedia

Autumn canals, the leeds to liverpool canal, in the sefton area....

Distelfalter-Vanessa cardui

This shot was right around dusk when it wasn't pitch dark yet but the sky had that dark blue, almost violet hue. Barcelona is so pretty with so many plazas, fountains, trees and interesting architecture that there is a great potential shot in every corner.

Kudos to the Sony a6000 which did a marvelous job at 3200 ISO but I still had to work a good amount in post edit to get to this result. After adjusting the basics with Lightroom, I had to go to Photoshop to remove unwanted objects including a very prominent pedestrian on the bottom right corner of the shot.

I used Nik Collection Dfine to further reduce high ISO noise and Color Efex Pro to improve contrast and detail. But the overall look, feel and color balance is pretty much the same as the original RAW image.

The light is right at the southernmost side of the western end of Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The tower stands about 20m in height and replaced the first (built in 1917) around 1947.

The station takes its name from the abandoned farm of Malarrif.

We had been stooging around the foreshore - another smooth pebble beach called Sandvík - having lunch when the sun broke through the clag and lit up the lighthouse for only a few moments. A lucky break!
