Eskdale is an inspiring Lake District valley of mountain, crags, river and forest with England's highest mountain - Scafell Pike at its head.
Situated on the western edge of the Lake District National Park, it's a more secluded and quieter area compared to other parts of the Lakes.
The Esk rises in the Scafells range of mountains at a height of 740 metres (2,430 ft), just below Esk Hause, the mountain pass between the fells of Great End and Esk Pike. The infant river then flows southerly through wild and picturesque countryside, devoid of any road access. It receives many streams flowing off the Scafell range, the most significant of which are Calfcove Gill and Little Narrowcove Beck. The river makes several leaps over waterfalls including the Esk Falls before being joined by its first major tributary, Lingcove Beck, at Lingcove Bridge

Continuing images from my recent trip to an abandoned grain elevator outside Buffalo, NY. This one is a handheld in-camera HDR.
The Gear: Olympus OM-D e-M1.2 with my new 25mm f1.2 Pro lens. Base exposure: 25mm | f1.2 | 1/6th | ISO 200 | EV -0.70.
Post-Processing: Initial RAW processing handled by DxO PhotoLab 4 then quickly pushed to On1 Photo RAW 2021. I did send the image to Nik Silver Efex Pro for a mono conversion, but I ended blending it back in, instead of going with a straight B&W on this one.

“Photographs don’t discriminate between the living and the dead. In the fragments of time and shards of light that compose them, everyone is equal. Now you see us; now you don’t. It doesn’t matter whether you look through a camera lens and press the shutter. It doesn’t even matter whether you open your eyes or close them. The pictures are always there. And so are the people in them.”

This phenomenon happened while I was shooting the same Aurora in the other recent posts. It started very suddenly as a thin band of white light directly overhead and transformed into the white/purple/green arc seen here. The light was really quite intense - as was the experience - I simply stopped shooting and took it in transfixed.
Discovered what it was called by accident just the other day and it appears that STEVE isn't an actual aurora but another type of event. See: www.abc.net.au/news/2017-04-24/new-light-phenomenon-calle...
The event lasted less than 5 minutes from the sequence of shots taken.
Very boring foreground as there was just no time to frame anything - of interest may be the Pleaides Cluster just above the central fence post and the trusty Rent-A-Rocket in the background.

The low clouds in both pictures speaks to the weather we had while in Seward. Beautiful spot nevertheless!
Our adorable, scruffy, 6-year old Border Terrier 'Maisie' was the semi-reluctant model for this photo shoot. Camera in one hand and favourite squeeky ball in the other (as seen in the reflection of her eye) I was able to capture this image as she focussed longingly on the ball.
Many thanks to everyone who views, faves and comments on this image and the others in my photostream. HMM to everyone!
Heading down the Þingvallavegur (Route 36) toward Miðfell (322m) and friend Anna's house. The road intersects with the F365 just near the little black cone while the lake - Þingvallavatn - is off to the right behind the hills.
Miðfell is a volcanic vent or fissure from sometime in the recent past judging by the black ash, cinders, tuff, moss and lichens on its flanks. A reminder that Þingvellir (Thingvellir National Park) is a rift valley sitting right on the mid-Atlantic ridge or caught between two continents if you prefer.
I was struck by the the late Autumn vibrancy of the roadside moss and vegetation and the light, pastel tones of the hill. An initial version of the pic came out like a watercolour from a bible story. Something to do with crushing the haze too drastically I think - this is a second attempt but the hill still looks like a painting!

Fort Davis, Texas is a great small town in Far West Texas. It sits on the edge of the Davis Mountains at about 5,000 feet above sea level, which is roughly the same elevation as Denver, Colorado.
This lovely church is on the main highway through town. Catholic clergy began serving the residents of the Fort Davis area about 1872. Father Joseph Hoban was appointed pastor in 1876 and the first St. Joseph Catholic Church building was erected in 1879. It was considered as the central church of the large region of Big Bend. A new church was consecrated in 1899. St. Joseph Catholic Church continues to serve a large and diverse congregation.
Copied in part from the historical marker in front of the church. See the small version photo of the interior in the first comment below.

Last of the Snæfellsnes ridges and mountains for your viewing pleasure. This is Fagraskógarfjall (660m) from beside Route 54. Peninsula, Iceland.
While the summit is out of sight here, once again the layers in the mountain represent individual volcanic events. The broken ground in front of the mountain is actually the Barnaborgahraun lava field. It's believed this lava issued from the Ljosufjoll System around 2,500 years ago.
I was really taken with the contrasts between that rich autumnal foreground, mountain and sky - hence the shot :-)
