KÃrkjufell under the Aurora Borealis, Snaefellsnes Peninsular, Iceland.
Could also be titled "The Bear Hung Over the Mountain"...
This two frame stitch taken under the same Northern Lights event as a previous post but later in the night. KÃrkjufell is partially lit up by the sodium vapor lamps of Grundarfjörður town off to the right, behind me - hence the grungy brown colour of the mountain. There was also quite a deal of thin cloud about resulting in reduced contrast in some of the beams. Constellation of Ursa Major can be seen clearly in the sky above the mountain.
At the left is the location of the famous KÃrkjufoss waterfall. Apparently there was a total scrum over there at the time with lots of rude photographers being not at all collegial.
I knew it would be a shambles so gave it a miss and shot this from just outside town. There was just one other 'tog there - a nice lady from Estonia who had escaped the brawl around at the waterfall. She said we had the best view anyway!

This is the view to the north east from the comms tower on Twelvetrees Range into the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. South West Tasmania.
On the skyline hard left is the northern end of The Spires being the White Pyramid and The Camel. Next is Mt Curly (slightly obscured) Pokana Peak (1127m) with Centre Star (943m) in the centre mist. The cat-ears of Bonds Craig (1260m), Reeds Peak in the cloud (1290m) (both of the Denison Range) with South Star at its foot.
Continuing, we next have the northern end of the Junction Range (right) meeting the southern end of the Pleiades Range behind the green Atkins Range right in front of it all.
That's enough local geography for one sitting and it's only a field of view around ~10.3°...

One more of my early attempts at photographing the Milky Way, taken in August 2018.
The photo has an obvious flaw: not much happens until the lights of the Benevolo Refuge and Le Refuge de Fond. I had scouted the area before coming to shoot at night but at the time I was still quite inexperienced and did not consider that in the dark many of the details of the terrain would be lost.
In the background, from left to right, the Roc Basegne, the Roc del Fond, the Punta Calabre and the Granta Parei (in my opinion one of the most beautiful mountains in the Aosta Valley).

Thursday's rather impressive thunderstorm bears down on the inner Hobart suburb of Moonah with the CBD out of frame (to the left) to follow. kynyani/Mount Wellington on the skyline.
TasNetworks (the power co) estimated some 10,000 separate lighting discharges with approximately 2,000 making contact with the ground.
Power was knocked out, roads flooded and fruit crops damaged in 90 minutes of chaos.
I was on the other side of the river but only managed a couple of frames with actual strikes in them. Other folk fared a bit better. My ageing reflexes cannot beat a lighting trigger! My own house is just a bit to the left of the strike but nothing to report.
Around 10 minutes after this frame I lost sight of the opposite shore due to rain and hail. Will post one from beside the bridge (left) at some point. Have a roll of film as well - hopefully some drama amongst those.

Great Oyster Bay from Rheban Road south of Orford.
Technically there are a number of bays in the the pic - Spring Bay/Mercury Passage with Home Point lighthouse in the fore/left with Stapletons Point right in front.
Okehampton Bay with contentious salmon pens in the centre with Lords Bluff/Cape Bougainville to the right of that and then Great Oyster Bay with Schouten Island, Ile des Phouques (White Rock) and Freycinet Peninsula in the back right.
Two frame stitch with the excellent Nikon 70-200 f/4 VR. Almost half the weight as the 70-200/2.8 (in all its iterations) and arguably just as sharp.

I went to Lake Tahoe recently for the first time. It was amazing. I can't believe how big it is and I dong't think I've ever seen a clearer lake. I'm looking forward to coming back in the winter.

Posted a picture a couple of years ago from one of the bluffs 290m above this one looking at this spot in Tasman Passage. The weather on the days 30 years apart couldn't be more different.

Lundur. A modern, outwardly well-appointed holiday cottage beside Brúarfoss, Snaefellsnes Peninsular, Iceland.
The stream flows off the eastern side of Fagraskógarfjall and Route 54 passes nearly right over the top of the small Brúarfoss waterfall that is causing the white water in the foreground.
I'm not sure what the little building is at the left but being Iceland it may be either a pumphouse or the local Rivendell ;-)

Our Saturday drive took us to Mayo River State Park about an hour northwest of us. The shade provided a respite from the 95 degree heat and the reflections provided a perfect photo op! It was a nice little discovery…

Captured in East Marton, this monochrome image documents the quiet drama of canal life as a narrowboat passes through the lock. The composition uses the heavy stone walls, wooden gates, and cascading water to create a powerful sense of depth, pressure, and movement.
The lone figure at the centre becomes both navigator and caretaker, framed by the industrial geometry of the lock system. The black-and-white treatment strips the scene back to texture, contrast, and atmosphere, transforming a practical moment of travel into a study of heritage, labour, and the enduring rhythm of Britain’s waterways.

A play on the legend of the Phoenix, with an Emu rising through the smoke haze.
This is the last pic from Orford looking across to Maria Island at the Milky Way core rising in the east. Taken approximately 50 minutes after the previous posting of this view.
Intense discolouration on the horizon is from smoke haze drifting out to sea from controlled burns inland from my position. The smoke quite distorted the lower stars - Jupiter is almost in the centre of lower part of the image. Thought about cloning out the space junk flare but left it in.

A new conversion to mono of this image of George Green Field, (within Langley Park) in snow.
The layering on the branches of the Red Cedar tree with snow is very pleasing to my eye.
The two dog walkers in the distance making their way back to the village just gives some scale to this open space park.
The snow had blown from the north as can be seen on the trunk of the cedar tree as we are facing south west in the image.
Image shot on Nikon D90, Tokina 11-16mm wide angle lens, focal length 15mm, ISO 320, aperture f/7.1, processed in Lightroom Classic and Nik 6 Silver EFEX.
The Tokina lens was a particularly sharp lens, created by three people that left Nikon to set up their own camera lens production I believe.
