Another image for my current personal project around the recent gale force storm that hit the Buffalo area in early December. This breakwater is normally a walkway positioned 6-8' above the waterline.

Ready for takeoff to somewhere warm and sunny. The flower suitcase is from the 1960's and the woven bag is from Acapulco 1950"s vintage. The bag read Acapulco, but the thread is missing in some spots.
A wider view of Hafursfell (697m) from the eastern side, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Iceland.
The true nature of the glaciated formation is evident here with the glacial arête of Þrihnúkar at the left rear with the jagged summit of Hafursfell itself to the right looming over the Þverdalur cirque in front of it.
Route 54 or Snæfellsnesvegur can be seen snaking westward past Samkomuh and Dalsmynni farms at the foot of the mountain. The Núpá River runs through a fold of land behind these two farms. I'm not able to find a name for the peak in sunlight.
I posted a tighter shot of the peak a while ago but I think this wider view is the new fave :-)

The Milky Way core rising over Maria Island and the Tasman Sea. A fishing vessel steaming south making a big show over Mercury Passage in the bottom right.
Australian indigenous peoples used the dark spaces in the sky for their Dreaming stories. The Coalsack Nebula forms the head of an emu and the dust lanes leading back to the core form the neck and body.

“The Wave” – A journey to the end of the pier
Everybody is cordially invited to a multidimensional journey taking place in the harbour of Copenhagen. The Wave – an interactive sound- and light installation spanning 80 metres – will add a much-needed light on Ofelia Plads during the entire Frost Festival. “The Wave” is on all days from 4th-26th February 2017.
The installation ”The Wave” has been devopled by internationally renowned light design collective Obscura Vertigo. Its conception was promoted by Frost Festival and the Ofelia Plads association who jointly strive to create cultural experiences during Winter, manifested in the form of an art installation on Ofelia Plads, Copenhagen
Apparently these flowers are called different names in different parts of the world.
Here in Canada, these blossoms in the reflecting pond at the Royal Botanical Gardens are called Water Lilies.
RBG is a beautiful area for garden and nature lovers located in Burlington, Ontario Canada.
Stokesay Castle is the finest and best-preserved 13th-century fortified manor house in England. It was fortified by Lawrence de Ludlow, a wool merchant, who received his 'License to Crenellate' from Edward I in 1291. This property is now in the care of English Heritage.
The Church of St John the Baptist is a Grade I listed Church of England church in Stokesay, Shropshire, England, adjacent to Stokesay Castle. The church first dates from around 1150, and was probably the chapel to the castle. It was badly damaged during the English Civil War, and rebuilt in 1654.

Milky Way Galaxy ascending/emerging out of Blue Hour over putalina (Oyster Cove), the D'Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island.
Made the most of lifting restrictions and clear, dark skies earlier this week. Drove down to putalina (Oyster Cove) for a sequence of frames of the MW as it was rising.
putalina has a dark place in the hearts of Tasmanian's indigenous peoples. It was at this place the few remaining survivors of the pre-anglo population spent their last days in a dilapidated convict station. Their children were also removed from them.
The land at putalina has been recently handed back to the descendants of the island's inhabitants and retains significant cultural value.
For indigenous peoples, the alignment of the MW in the south at this time of the year represents an emu, Australia's large and flightless bird. The Coalsack Nebula at the top of the frame represents the head of the emu and the dust lanes and dark patches leading to the horizon form the body.

Not at full dark yet. Lights at bottom right are the ferry terminal on Bruny Is. and it's even possible to see the line of car headlights heading inland from the ferry.
The replica Chinese Bridge was constructed in 2015 very near the site of the original bridge which had rotted away. The roots of the London plane tree meant it was not possible to position it in exactly the same spot. Archaeology students from the University of Worcester uncovered the remains of the stone foundations of the bridge in summer 2009. The original bridge was constructed in 1747-8 to a design by William Halfpenny. This was for Lord Deerhurst before he inherited the title 6th Earl of Coventry in 1751. This pre-dated the landscape work of 'Capability' Brown which created the serpentine shaped lake know as Croome River. At time of the construction of the Chinese Bridge it crossed a much smaller lake or canal. The original bridge can be seen in the painting of Croome by artist Richard Wilson.
Looking north east from Lækjarvík on Route One into a raging storm over Álftafjördur and the long sandspit of Starmyrarfjörur. North of Höfn, South East Iceland.
Another from the 2015 archives. The archive digging over the last few weeks has really illustrated the importance to me of a number of things. 1) Getting exposure basically correct really helps. 2) Camera sophistication doesn't really matter that much so long as the shot is good (see 1). 3) Be patient with yourself when learning - if the shot speaks, don't give up.

Maria Island is separated from Tasmania by Mercury Passage. This blue hour frame of the passage from Rebhan Road, Orford.
Took this while setting up for the rising Milky Way - first magnitude stars are out along with Jupiter rising low above the Island. The MW core itself is on the horizon just to the right of the planet.
Two other things of interest - there is an islet to the north of Maria - Isle du Nord, the beacon upon which rock is responsible for the tiny light at the northern (left) end of the island.
The other thing is the smudge of smoke above the trees and out to sea. There were a couple of controlled burns inland and the smoke was slowly drifting out over the ocean. Had an impact on later images...

This set of butterflies paid a visit to the garden to enjoy the nectar of sedum. The texture adds an art-like quality to the photo and a hint of age.

The mountains looking East include San Joaquin, White Wing, Deer and Lookout Mountains. I believe that is the order in this picture from left to right but I can't find definitive proof on the Internet.

Moonrise behind a cloud bank along with some additional light polution from Jyväskylä over Lake Vhvanen in Central Finland.
This view is kinda looking southeast over the lake with the Milky Way just out of frame to the right. Not being from the northern hemisphere, I'm unsure of the constellations in the frame.

A detail shot of the Seljahraun lava flow on the southern side of Snæfellsjökull Volcano, Snæfellsnes Peninsula, Iceland.
The little spire at the right is Hjarta with a little patch of permanent snow just opposite.
As in the previous post, the mountain had been clagged over all day with the sun finally getting below the cloud ceiling late in the afternoon and lighting up the terrain. The light is still fairly flat in this pic however.

MV 'Laguna Bay' about depart from the Gulch at Bicheno, Tasmania. Smoke from a controlled burn somewhere to the west colouring the upper sky.
More from the Takumar 135/3.5 preset salvaged from the junkyard. Had some bad fungus front and rear along with a nasty scratch on the rear element but since CLA'd I'm not able to pick up any issues with it at all. Super sharp in the centre.

The Crown Mine Engine Houses at Botallack Mines - UNESCO World Heritage Site Western Cornwall.
The engine houses are on the bucket list for many photogs and I'm pleased to have had the privilege to shoot there.
Grey, flat overcast and misty day suited the place.
