The boxlike and unappealing modern multiplex - this is why so few such photos appear on my photostream. Here it is the Warner in York - but it could be anywhere. The Multiplex is now under Vue control.

As with many cinema's in The Netherlands, this one is hard to photograph. There's always lampposts, trees, signs and lots of other things obscuring a clear view.
The 5 screen multiplex at Stationsplein 49 opened just a couple of years ago, on Mary 16th, 2002. A year before, the sole remaining cinema in Beverwijk, the Luxor, closed it's doors. It was also operated by Cineworld v.o.f.
In May 2006 they celebrated their 1 millionth visitor (which actually already happened in April, and it is unknown who he or she is).
AMC Empire 25 Theatres, 234 West 42nd Street, New York, New York. Originally opened as the Eltinge 42nd Street Theatre, in 1912, it was designed by noted theatre architect Thomas W. Lamb, and named for Julian Eltinge. Its first production was Bayard Veiller's "Within the Law," a hit that ran for more than a year. Originally specializing in light comedies, it suffered during the Great Depression and became first a burlesque theatre, then a movie theater in 1942. It was renamed the Empire Theatre in 1954, after the demolition of the previous theatre of the same name. In 1998, as part of the renewal of 42nd Street led by the New 42nd Street coalition and real estate developer Bruce Ratner, the entire theatre was lifted off its foundation and moved westward approximately 170 feet. In its new location, the shell of the theatre auditorium was converted into a lobby and lounge for a 25-screen AMC Theatres multiplex, the AMC Empire 25, with escalators leading to the newly built auditoriums passing through the former proscenium arch of the stage.
Built for the revived ABC chain in 1997, this 8-screen multiplex was designed by McFarlane Latter, who also designed the ABC multiplexes at Wester Hailes and Rochdale. It has since been rebranded as an Odeon following the merger of the two chains.

"Questa volta lasciami essere felice, non è successo nulla a nessuno non sono in nessun luogo, semplicemente sono felice nei quattro angoli del cuore camminando, dormendo o scrivendo. Che posso farci, sono felice, sono più innumerabile dell'erba nelle praterie, sento la pelle come un albero rugoso, di sotto l'acqua, sopra gli uccelli, il mare come un anello intorno a me, fatta di pane e pietra la terra l'aria canta come una chitarra." (Pablo Neruda)
Mequon, WI, Marcus chain multiplex of 1990s vintage with stadium seating, cupholders, etc. The nondescript quality of the exterior, which I had never paid much attention to before looking at this photo, has a surrealistic quality. It's just "cinema," nothing more specific. And isn't it cool that movie theaters in the U.S. and Canada are still called "cinemas" even when no one actually calls them that? Kind of like airplane bathrooms being called lavatories. Sort of British-y and pretentious, and yet no one seems to care.
This 9 screen cinema opened in December 1995. Originally owned and operated by MGM, it was then operated by Virgin, then UGC and Cineworld.

The venue closed on July 21 2014 to make way for the Kings Square project, along with the adjacent former Myer building. At the time of this photograph the site remains abandoned except for some ground level shops with the winning design for the redevelopment just awarded and developers awaiting commitment from tenants in the redeveloped buildings.

A 4-screen General Cinema stood here until the late-90s, when this 16-screen multiplex replaced it.
After becoming an AMC theatre in 2002, it was replaced in 2011 by a new 12-screen just across the street, on the former site of Randhurst Mall. The pictured structure is to become a Petsmart.
Sorry for the lousy photograph.

While the three highways were never multiplexed, signage showing I-35, I-80, and I-235 together appeared after the exit ramp between westbound I-80 and northbound I-35, right before I-235 splits from westbound I-80. These shields were taken down by the end of 2009. (All of the big green signs along both directions of I-80 were replaced in mid-2009, with most of them in Clearview.)
Vue Entertainment, the UK’s leading developer and operator of state-of-the-art multiplex cinemas, is delighted to officially announce that the long-awaited Vue Bury cinema at The Rock will open its doors to the public on Friday 16th July.
The original Bury cinema site in Pilsworth opened in 1989 and subsequently operated by Vue from 2003, was one of the first generation multiplexes in the UK. The cinema has had over 15 million cinema visits in the past 21 years, and now Vue is bringing the very best of the UK’s biggest and most technologically advanced cinema, Vue Westfield in London, to the heart of film-loving Bury. Vue Westfield took the capital by storm when it opened in February and Vue expects its new Bury site will also prove to be a huge success, delivering the ultimate cinema experience to its visitors.
The new Vue cinema is set to ‘rock’ Bury, bringing the latest in cinema innovation to the town’s doorstep. The multiplex will consist of 1,700 ultra comfortable stadium seats across ten screens, three of which are fully digital and 3D-enabled to deliver the highest possible sound and picture quality. The venue will also boast the only ‘VueXtreme’ screen outside London – a super-sized cinema screen, ideal for those seeking the most thrilling, all-immersive, big scale viewing experience.
The Odeon Cinema Complex, on Brayford Wharf North in Lincoln, Lincolnshire.
It is made up of a nine-screen multiplex cinema with associated catering and retail outlets. Building work commenced in July 2000 after the demolition of the former Kwiksave/Sainsburys Supermarket. A pile-driven structure of steel frame with concrete, brick and sheeting, with blue neon external strip lighting. Opened October 2001. The units were gradually fitted out to include Bar Med, Lloyds No. 1 and Ask restaurant on Brayford Wharf North; Thai One On, (Thai Sabai May 2011), Café Bollywood, Planet Masala and Wrap and Run on Wigford Way West in 2004; Dixey Chicken in February 2005, later Chicken Cottage. Bar Med replaced by Slug and Lettuce in late 2004, followed by So Luxe restaurant, closed 2009; 20 June 2011 Zizzi Italian restaurant.

Mile markers on multiplexed highways in Iowa usually have the shield of the highway above it to determine which highway the mile markers represent, such as this example in Dubuque. However, the US 65/69 multiplex between Indianola and Des Moines includes both shields above the mile markers for some reason. For the record, the mile marker is for US 65.

Nikon FE with Konica Minolta VX100 negative film. Scanned with my ICE-less Konica Minolta Dimage Scan Dual IV scanner as linear positive. Converted using ColorPerfect plugin. I'm struggling to learn the software and it certainly seems to emphasize the grain. However, it just gives the most natural "light" and "colour" that I have seen out of this scanner.

One of the first closures of a multiplex cinema in the U.K and also one of the only cinemas built with specifications to convert it to a supermarket should it fail!
The multiplex had eight screens and was built for Thorn EMI Screen Entertainment. This would be their only multiplex, opening on 19th December 1986.
MGM Group took over in 1990, and in July 1995 was taken over by Virgin Cinema. UGC took over in October 1999. The multiplex cinema was again taken over, this time, by Cineworld, but they closed it in March 2001.
Today, some ten years later, the multiplex is still boarded up and derelict.
