Marina City is a residential/commercial building complex sitting on the north bank of the Chicago River in Chicago, directly across from the Loop district. Consisting of two corncob-shaped towers (587-foot, 65-story), it occupies an entire city block on State Street. The complext also includes a saddle-shaped auditorium building, and a mid-rise hotel, all on a raised platform next to the river.
Designed by Bertrand Goldberg, Marina City was the first building in the United States to be constructed with tower cranes. It was completed in 1964 at a cost of $36 million.

Echinopsis is a genus of cacti native to South America, sometimes known as hedgehog cactus, sea-urchin cactus or Easter lily cactus. As of October 2023, there are about 20 accepted species, ranging from large and treelike types to small globose cacti. The name derives from “echinos" hedgehog or sea urchin, and “opsis" appearance, a reference to these plants' dense coverings of spines.
They are remarkable for the great size, length of tube, and beauty of their flowers, borne upon generally small and dumpy stems.

View from the Danube bridge Reichsbrücke upstream in north-west direction. The skyscraper on the left is the Millennium Tower, a 171 m high office building built between 1997 and 1999. Next to it are the Millennium City, a shopping center with restaurants and a multiplex cinema, and the Handelskai subway and S-Bahn station, from where I travel to work every day.
