Inside the new Hoyts multiplex on a walk around the city to catch up on what's happening while I wait for my car to have its WOF. March 2019 Christchurch New Zealand.
With over 900 cinema seats, seven movie screens and 13 food outlets, central Christchurch's $50 million new Hoyts EntX multiplex.
The three-level complex has been under construction for a year and a half between Colombo, Lichfield and Tuam Sts, opened on September 28, 2019.
EntX will replace the eight-screen Moorhouse Ave facility which cinema chain Hoyts lost in the earthquakes. It will be the company's third multiplex in Christchurch and 11th in New Zealand, and the second in the country with large "xtremescreens", recliner seats and in-cinema dining.

This 7 screen multiplex is operated by Cinex and is located on the top floor of the popular and recently opened Centro Comercial El Recreo shopping centre, Avenida Casanova at Calle El Recreo in the Sabana Grande district, east of central Caracas.
Cathay Cinema in Singapore. This multiplex has been built behind the facade of the former Cathay Cinema. The original office tower and cinema from 1938 / 1939 was demolished.

L’omologazione che caratterizza il nostro periodo ha intaccato anche il modo di fruire il cinema e di viverne gli spazi ad esso deputati. I nuovi multi sala si assomigliano in tutto e per tutto: spazi enormi, impianti audio impressionanti, tempi d’attesa da riempire con i bar forniti di tutto ciò che non si desidera ma che si è tentati di acquistare. Tutto sembra finalizzato solo al profitto.
Sopravvivono a stento le piccole sale dove i bar sono ancora dei distributori di bibite e snack, dove esiste ancora il primo e il secondo tempo e non si deve attendere un’infinità dal momento in cui ci s’impossessa del biglietto all’inizio della proiezione e dove il tempo scorre con più calma.
Il lavoro presentato è un’esplorazione di queste realtà che mantengono programmazioni di qualità , nascoste in angoli impensabili delle città o nei piccoli paesi. La qualità della pellicola proiettata non è anabolizzata dal suono e dalle dimensioni delle immagini.
La varietà e i colori di questi cinema fanno eco all’epoca in cui sono stati costruiti, biglietterie dalla forma di cerchio enorme, soffitti con lampade rosa o pareti a scacchi. Tutti mantengono il loro carattere e diventano unici a confronto delle sale moderne che sono un format l’una dell’altra.
Molte sale sono già scomparse portandosi con sé il patrimonio e un modo diverso di fruire il cinema, altre sono ancora lì, uguali da sempre ma con un fascino particolare che solo ora riusciamo a percepire, perché sono ognuna diversa dall’altra.
Fabrizio Bonfanti è nato nel 1974 a Milano. Si avvicina alla fotografia in modo professionale grazie all’incontro con il gruppo Reflexion Masterclass e Giorgia Fiorio. Lavora con apparecchiature medio formato. La sua ricerca è orientata alla città e alla fotografia di territorio. La presenza dell’individuo nelle sue immagini lascia spazio a elementi urbani periferici e anonimi, luoghi senza identità , edifici e segni umani senza una denotazione specifica se non quella dell’estraniamento e dell’omologazione della società moderna.Ha esposto nel Settembre 2005 ai Rencontres Photographiques en Sud Gironde.
The CinemaxX on Bundesallee 250 in Wuppertal is the reason for the last independent theaters to close there doors, like the Rex. The rather uninspiring multiplex (which is these days?) has 9 screens, of which the largest has a seat capacity of 670, of which 275 Loge seats. The screen is a whoopin' 21,20 x 9,10m.

In architecture, a folly is a building constructed strictly as a decoration, having none of the usual purposes of housing or sheltering associated with a conventional structure. So it was Ward Huting & Gerard de Hoop, of Huting & de Hoop, commissioned mission to build a modern folly for a modern park for the Noorderzon Festival in the Netherlands.
"Although this folly, like other true follies, does not have a particular function, it does have a use. Whether you wish to sit on it or climb on it, we advise you to come and discover the possibilities of this unique construction, and allow your imagination to be carried off."

I love the Corsican 'U u' concept - U Snacku, U Toweru, U Ramoesu, U Mellotronu - I am making most of these up of course (U Snacku is real!), but it looks brilliant written down. .... Opened in 1981 & closed in 2009 by Cineplex Odeon, the nine screen multiplex reopened again in 2010 under the ownership of Rainbow & Magic Lantern cinemas. This was the replacement theatre for the demolished Odeon Carlton, which occupied the same site from 1948 to 1973 ....

Tanks, synonymous with the landscape of war, are instrumental war machines in the propagation of western supremacy.
Pagoda, adorned with lotuses and often part of a temple compound, believed to be the padmasana, the seats of gods and goddesses who rule this world, is the shape of temples and a symbol for the levels of pure love in Eastern cultures.
This work expresses the interaction between the East and West cultures – an interaction which often ends in clashes. The adaptation of these cultures is symbolised through the visual language of seven tanks stacked on top of one another forming a tall structure resembling a Pagoda. The tanks are decorated or camouflaged with red lotuses and the juxtaposition transforms the killing machine into one that conveys love and peace to humankind.

Artist S. Teddy Darmawan was born in Padang in 1970 and graduated from Indonesia Institute of Arts, Fine Arts Department, Yogyakarta. He was Artist in Residence in Aachen, Germany and was selected for best five of Phillip Morris Awards 2001 (Indonesia).

Cines Colci, Benidorm. Seemingly a large older cinema, with stalls and balcony, which has now been sub-divided into 7 screens, three of which are constructed outside the original auditorium. Reputedly, the largest remaining screen has around 1,000 seats. The foyers and facade have been significantly altered on the expansion to a multiplex.
