West Coast Motors Solo YJ62 FNK at the Calgary terminus of route 494 on the Isle of Mull on 11 May 2017. It had just arrived on the 1000 494 from Tobermory and would return at 1100. As can be glimpsed in the background the beach at Calgary is delightful. The bus is operated by Dervaig outstation.

Producers of (mainly) industrial sewing machines, the DĂĽrkopp company still exists today as DĂĽrkopp-Adler. DĂĽrkopp's origins date back to 1867 when Nikolaus DĂĽrkopp started his sewing machine business in the German city of Bielefeld, a centre for bicycle manufacture. DĂĽrkopp owned another plant in Graz, Austria, and in the 1880s both factories began producing bicycles to meet the Europe-wide boom in this form of transportation. The firm's first automobile followed in 1898. Constructed along Panhard lines, these first DĂĽrkopps featured front-mounted vertical twin-cylinder engines, final drive by chains, and wheels of unequal size. A much smaller car with a rear-mounted engine was on offer in 1899, featuring tandem seating and wire wheels. Motorcycle production commenced around 1901. DĂĽrkopp's range expanded and by 1903 consisted of some five models ranging from an 8PS twin to a 40PS four, while a six-cylinder car was shown for the first time that year. In Britain the importer F Watson marketed DĂĽrkopps under the 'Watsonia' brand name.
By 1914 DĂĽrkopp had produced a succession of large-capacity fours, the ultimate being the 13-litre Type DG of 1912, but these sold in limited numbers, prompting the introduction of new smaller models known as the 'Knipperdolling' range.
After WWI, the firm concentrated mainly on medium-size cars of around 2 litres, plus a small number of larger types. Production of cars ceased in 1927 but commercial chassis continued to be available for a few more years. Production of motorcycles had ceased in 1914 and would not resume until 1949, DĂĽrkopp's most famous product of the post-war period being the immensely successful Diana scooter.
This rare early DĂĽrkopp automobile has been part of the BĂĽhner Collection since 2002, having previously formed part of a private collection in its native Bielefeld, where it was also on loan for a period of time to the local history Museum. It is believed that before then the car had survived many years of barn storage, and numerous photographs attest to its remarkably original condition prior to its sympathetic restoration. The car even comes with a copy of its original Bielefeld registration from 1902, with the number 'X530'.
While in the custody of Peter and Ulrike BĂĽhner the car participated successfully in many events, among them the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run in 2004, 2007 and 2008 (programmes on file). It is believed that only one other DĂĽrkopp from 1901 survives.

Taken at SIA’2013 Motor Show (29 May - 2 June 2013, Kiev). There was no motor show this year in Kiev, for obvious reasons.

I used 1 flash in continuous mode, in 3 pictures that I blended together in pp. Let the camera on my tripod, shutter opened for 5 secs each time, painting with the flash.
Teachers Fred Sanders and Jan Siemerink (R) all the way from Kasulu Technical Secondary School (West Tanzania) on a trip to the North of the country. Here on a stopover at Bonga village near Babati. A few months ago I had a door expertly fixed and asked the technician where he got his training. He mentioned the Kasulu School and gave my SNV colleagues high recommendations.
I haven't seen a garage with faience before, and this example on Doncaster Road, Askern, is a gem. It is good that the modern signing on the frontage replicates the colours, if not quite the font, of the original.
The buildings appear to have been erected in the 1920s. From the Doncaster Free Press:
Claybourn’s was established by Jack Ernest Claybourn, who was born in Askern in 1893 and was a sergeant mechanic with the Royal Flying Corps during the First World War. He returned to Askern after the war and opened a bicycle and motorcycle repair shop. After he was married in 1922 his father-in-law, Sydney Webster, helped him establish a motor garage on Doncaster Road, Askern. The business thrived and in 1931, moved to premises at the corner of Hall Gate and Waterdale.

Hagerstown & Frederick #5 rests quietly on the site of the H&F passenger station in Thurmont, MD. Built in 1920 by the H&F shops, #5 originally had Taylor MCB trucks and was equipped with 4 Westinghouse 306 traction motors rated at 65HP a piece. It was officially retired from the roster in 1955.

I do not own this image. For historic interest only.
This image is from a book entitled Cosmos Zigarettenbilder. I believe the photos in the book were those that appeared on collector cards that came with cigarette packs.
The motor unicycle. An interesting construction of the Italian Cislaghi from the year 1928 which did not prevail. Some revolutionary designtypes had only curiosity value.

Motor oil bottles, spouts and a metal carrier outside a preserved general store at Southampton Agriculture & Forestry Museum & Heritage Village in Courtland, Virginia [Southampton County]. I don’t know the age of the bottles, but probably before 1930 when embossing was done on bottle surfaces. See further information in the comments on this photo.
