Streamline Moderne harkens back to a turbulent time in history. The Great Depression was in full swing and WWII was on the horizon. Gone were the frills of Art Deco and the Roaring 20′s. Design took on a more streamlined, aerodynamic pure-line concept and this 1940′s Olds was no exception. Fore more info and how it was made click - www.auroraskyeimages.com/?page_id=663
A parade of 10 iconic figures from visual arts by Cledat and Petitpierre (France) march on at the Esplanade waterfront promenade.
Historic Kay Theater in Rockdale, Texas. The theater began in 1947 when an old World War II Quonset Hut was relocated to Rockdale to serve as the core of a movie theater. A sloping concrete floor and a Streamline Moderne style façade was constructed.
The old Kay Theater was designated as a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 2013.

I understand the need for double glazing for the sake of the occupants, but it is such a shame that it takes away one of the great distinctive features of this style. Apart from the no-longer curved corner windows this is probably the most complete example of the moderne style in Spalding. It is white, it has curves, it has corner windows and a flat roof. It is in a street of thirties houses but is the only one in this style.

Bather's Building at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, a great example of Streamline Moderne architecture, which I really love.

"The living room is in the form of a Streamline Moderne ship's bridge. Bands of horizontal steel windows and metal railings extend the nautical theme, now somewhat altered."

Mutual Sunset Lamp Company (M. S. L. C.)
Table Lamp with Nightlight
1930s Art Moderne, Modernist, Machine Aesthetic Design. Could be attributed to designer Gilbert Rohde who designed lamps for this company in the 1930s.
He designed over 35 lamps for this company and many were not documented.
Chrome (or Nickle) Plated with a Cream-colored Milk Glass Center.
Original Cloth Cord. Original Bakelight? plastic On/Off switch for the nightlight.
Adjustable shade holder with original finial.
Dimensions: 20 inches to 21 1/2 inches high; 4 1/2 diameter at the base. 9 inches high to the top of the glass/chrome base.
Weight: About 3 pounds, 14 ounces on a Postal Scale.
Condition: Mint to Very Good. All original parts (except for the shape) appear intact and in working order, including the pull chains and switch. All lamp sockets are in working order. I have not tried to clean the chrome---appears to have some minor surface issues (see photographs). Heavy base has a dull, matte finish as opposed to the chrome, banded rings at the top and the bottom of the glass center section. Original cords and interior fittings. One interior area seems to have been covered in electrical tape for safety.
Signed: M.S.L.C. D1600 on the bottom of the base.
goed zichtbaar is hier dat de kap van Antwerpen vooral berekend is op het traditionele sncb Bordeaurood.
These are similar to a pair of earrings called Grace. The beads are by the wonderful Isabelle Anderson and they are teamed with sterling silver.
This intriguing moderne structure is located on Canarsie Pier in Brooklyn. I think it may have been a restaurant or something like that. Despite the scenic waterfront location, Canarsie has the reputation of being one of the rougher parts of Brooklyn.
Cette spacieuse cuisine se démarque par son utilisation d'éléments modernes recherchées. Elle arbore un look design et épuré par le choix des matières et tous les aspects dans les moindre détails.

A fine catalogue showing a wide range of a printer's standard range of vignettes and ornaments and issued by the Leipzig based typefoundry of J.G. Schelter & Giesecke. Undated it includes specimen adverts dated to 1898 and it is mentioned in various German printing periodicals as being available in the latter half of 1899.
Many of the items are wonderfully 'arts and crafts' in style, along with examples of late Nineteeth-Century German romanticism that have a strong feel of what was to become known as Jugendstil. The company were both a typefoundry and a manufacture of printng presses that dated back to 1819. Based in the important printing city of Leipzig the company was nationalised by the new East German state in 1946.
I have scanned a selection of pages from this lovely catalogue; two pages are missing but, given its age and its use, that is neither unusual nor unexpected. The plates usually show a selection of the vignettes and ornaments along with their catalogue number and set in fictitious 'adverts' and settings simply to show how they may be used. As noted above they are so much of their time; strongly romantic in style and often displaying Jugendstil motifs that in a few years would be considered alongside the Arts & Crafts and Art Nouveau movements. They are also likely set in various of the company's typefaces.
