I have just started restoring this Akane C&O 2-6-6-6 for my friend Sean. This is a series of photos showing how it was received (in parts), going through drive modifications and finally, paint and reassembly - This photo shows the dremel tool with a large wheel for polishing after the parts were put into a quick acid bath to remove solder flux and other debris.

In taking this kit and studying it a bit I decided to make it a little more realistic and more true to the original.

So I had to do the following:

1. ignore kit manufacturer's suggested colors

2. combine central shaft to eliminate add on kit ring look

otherwise this kit is is pretty good proportions to the original building I'd say.

The picture above shows the baseline color combination i came up with

Misc. Photos from the 1980's and 1990's. Some are photos of model railroads.

I have re-assembled this model after cleaning and repair of broken and missing parts. It was a rather sparse in details, and I did not add any to this project just to keep the appearance original. Some small items still need tweaking, but, for the most part it is done. This is the first Akane model that I have seen that came with a serial / production number. This one is number 93, and it is stamped in several locations with the number. These are common models, so this must be number 93 of hundreds made. This is the 1959 run year, with un-sprung drivers. The videos are the first and second test runs after assembly, they are not good, but, you get the idea anyway.

An O Scale Rock Island train is seen at the LaGrange Model Railroad Show, he locomotive is likely an E3.

I bought this on Ebay just yesterday. A nice little Colorado Midland ten wheeler which has been painted for the D&RGW. These are the sellers photos from the listing.

N scale. A good example of projects I've embarked on that strive to be too complex to be copied by ebay sellers and passed off as their own designs. In the end it makes for a better diorama..

This is a Custom Brass New York Central P-2A Electric Locomotive in HO scale that I bought recently. I spent this weekend repairing it. It was a basket case and was missing some parts. I still have to find a pantograph shoe for the roof to complete it, but, now it looks much better and runs very well.

This 1930's Lionel Standard gauge No. 384 2-4-0 is a good example of an original condition, used, but well maintained, model. Considering it's original owner received it at around 6 years old, it has held up very well. He, by the way, still owns this same engine some 70 years later. It is here to have some light maintenance done so it will be ready to circle the Christmas tree next month.

All of these Cryo-Trams cars have a city ma,e painted on the doors to the car. I assumed it was places the cars went to get loaded or emptied. But this one is labeled "Myrtle Beach," a town that has not seen freight service in years.

Cryo-Trans, Inc. offers the largest fleet of privately-owned, mechanically refrigerated and insulated railcars. By the end of 2018, Cryo-Trans, Inc. had more than 2,000 private railcars on the North American railway network.
