A few photos of a Rock Island mail train. Kenichi built the models and took the photo, I broke the photo down into areas so more detail can be seen.
"Hot piece of ACe."
One of the most realistic modern diesel locomotives I've ever seen in HO Scale. Athearn got this right in more ways than one. Part of Athearn's Genesis line this locomotive is truly gorgeous. When I saw that one of the vendor's at the recent "World's Greatest Hobby" show in Saint Paul, MN had several of these I had to check it out. At a price I couldn't refuse I ended up taking one home with me. This beautiful locomotive features Soundtraxx's Tsunami sound and very realistic detail work all around. I swapped out the couplers and put Kadee # 5's on both the front and rear. I haven't had the chance to test the pulling power but if it's like any other Athearn I've seen or owned it's going to be great.
Pros:
- Awesome detail work for a (stock) locomotive that isn't brass.
- Amazing sound (Soundtraxx Tsunami sound).
- Excellent paint work.
Cons:
- Extremely fragile handrails.
- Dim ditch lights.
This was a piece of commercial work done for TrainLife.com's social media presence, promoting newly arrived products at their store. Photographed on Pelle Soeborg's Daneburg Subdivision Layout in HO Scale. New product was the Brekina Peterbilt semitruck.
Call it graffiti, urban art or vandalism, I admittedly enjoy seeing it on the sides of old rail cars. This time it was on the side of a Rail Box car, RBOX 34952, which I shot sitting in the NS yard in Columbia, South Carolina
Cryo-Trans, Inc. offers the largest fleet of privately-owned, mechanically refrigerated and insulated railcars. By the end of 2018, Cryo-Trans, Inc. had more than 2,000 private railcars on the North American railway network.
I was looking through photos of Kenichi's layout and found so many small details that I had never focused on. So I decided to blow up a few areas and re-post them. All the photos are located in one of my albums. Kenichi took the photos and built the models. He does great work.
I bought this early hand built brass model recently. It is un-restored, but runs very well. These early hand built models are extremely rare, with only a handful in the world, for me, they are an exciting find for my collection. This model is unmarked, therefore, I am not sure who the maker was, but, I suspect it was made by Tetsudo or Kawai Models sometime between 1950 and 1955. (Sorry for the bad photos, these were the best I could get using my iphone).
Back in 1978 I had the fortunate experience of two rides on the Chessie Steam Special train from Columbus, OH to Russell, KY and Toledo, OH. Bear with me while I take a trip back in time.
We start our excursion run on the Chessie Steam Special right down Main Street as we leave the yard where the crew has been working hard all morning to make sure everything is in top working order.

I bought this little brass model yesterday. They are scarce, with very few made. These are the seller's photos. When it arrives, I will restore the Lindsay "teaspoon of power" drive, but, I will leave the body shell the way it is.
Probably second only to Union Pacific, the 'Warbonnet' silver/red colours of the Santa Fe are known the world over. While the scheme found fame on ATSF's E and F-unit passenger units, the resurrection of the paint job on the railroad's wide-cab 'Superfleet' in the 1980s was a masterstroke. GP60M ATSF 127 rolls light engine through RS Tower, somewhere in the Mid-West.
The model is the work of Chris Ibbotson and is a light detail project using an Athearn (ex-RPP) GP60M. The picture was taken on RS Tower (rstower.wordpress.com) at the Andover Model Railway Exhibition on September 7th, 2008.
